This sage is ongoing and too long to detail... Meyers has been sent to our home by our home warranty company, American Home Shield (AHS), several timesver the past 18 mo due to malfunction of HVAC that was original to house in 1978. Last year they refilled freon twice I think, and replaced a wiring harness. It took several trips to find the problem related to the wiring harness and we were without air for over a week.
This spring the AC would not function once again. In addition, on annual service by another contractor, our heater was found to be cracked and leaking carbon monoxide into our home. Under the law our furnace was turned off and and tagged as dangerous. We once again called American Home Shield who, in their infinite wisdom, contracted two different providers to come to our house, of course for two different services charges, at two different times. We stated our dissatisfaction with this idea and AHS agreed to allow one contractor to do the work on both units for one service fee. Once again, Myers happened to be the contractor AHS sent out.
The tech that came to our home, Eddie, was prompt, knowledgeable and professional. After examination he wrote a ticket stating "found other company (referring to our annual service company) has shut off gas to furnace due to cracked chambers. I confirmed that. Also found both condenser coil and eval coil can't hold freon". Several days later we were contacted by AHS via email stating they were ordering parts for the heater in order to replace the unit. The AC was not mentioned. I immediately contacted AHS and Myers and told both emphatically that Myers would not be replacing our unit and that we wanted the cash out option.... and "Oh, by the way, what about the AC"? Thus has begun a yet to be resolved battle. AHS said they did not have documentation on the AC. Meyers said they "misplaced" the original ticket. I repeated to each that I had a copy of the ticket and would send it. Each said my copy was not sufficient. We requested that a tech return to our house and were told "no" to that also. How then could they resolve the problem?
Finally Myers located the lost ticket. Per AHS the information they received from Myers stated the model number on the AC was worn off (duh, its 34 yr old). AHS mentioned nothing about the "can't hold freon" part. Now AHS has decided to send a new tech to the house. Of course we'd like that tech to be Eddie, but per Myers "Eddie doesn't work here anymore". We also requested a tech come that day as it was already Friday. The answer was no. So here we sit, 19 days into this ordeal with no heat or air. The lows on some nights has reached the upper 40's and the highs have been almost 90 on some days.
As far as customer service, most times we have contacted Myers there has been an exceptionally long hold time up to 20 min. AHS could vary from 5 min to 30 min. We have requested to speak to a supervisor at each company. AHS originally refused my request stating "there is no supervisor in this building". Later AHS said to speak with a supervisor our "request had to be emailed and we would here from a supervisor in 24 to 48 hours". We have passed that time with no return call. As for Myers, our request for a supervisor was similar...."not one here". We asked to speak with the owner and were told "you'll just have to keep calling back until you catch him". We asked that he call us and, basically, I interpreted their repeated "you have to catch him" to mean we should not expect to hear from him.
In addition to long hold times and no supervisors, each time we contact either company we have to start from zero on information. Of course they have "notes" from our previous calls, but not once did either companies notes actually reflect our previous conversations with them or with the other company. In fact, AHS and Myers continually contradict each other. We would recount for both what we had been told by the other and it was obvious neither company knew what the other had actually said.
We have contacted an attorney and are considering legal action against both companies.
Obviously I would never recommend either company to anyone. I will update my post with final outcome. CAVEAT EMPTOR.
