Wade & Sons Construction

We contacted Justin from Wade & Sons Construction to come give us an estimate on installing drywall and completing the upstairs for us. He came and measured and said he would give us a call on Monday morning. I called him Monday around noon and asked what his estimate was, he said $945.78 for materials which we needed to pay upfront and $750.00 for Labor which would be paid upon completion of the job. When asked how long the job would take he said 2 days, 3 at the most. We agreed and paid him the cost for materials. He brought the materials in the day before he started, because of the size we were unsure if they would fit and they did leave markings on my wall, which I was okay with because it wouldn't be anything for me to touch up the paint. After the first two days he had much work to finish so what turned into a 3 day tops project ended up being a 9 day project. He was very polite and the work seemed to be going okay (I've never done drywall so I thought it looked okay). Everyday after sanding the sheetrock did leave a trail of dust down the stairs and from the shoes going in and out of the house. That wasn't much fun to keep cleaning. On the7th day he said that he had just a couple small things to finish that he was going to leave his stuff upstairs and that he would return in the morning to finish the job, and he wanted to know if he could go ahead and get paid for the job since it was almost complete. I said yes because he had shown up everyday and it seemed to be looking good so far. The next day he showed up and worked for 2 hours, he said he had another job to go do, and that he would return on Monday to finish. He mudded more in areas and needed it to dry, but to go ahead and prime the room since he didn't have much left. I primed that weekend and discovered several areas that needed fixing. I had long cracks down the middle of the walls, the corners weren't straight and it looked like mud was just slapped on, we had fish eyes in several spots, tape had bubbled out in some areas, and screw heads were poking threw in some spots. Monday morning came around and we waited until 10 am and then we had to call asking what time he was going to show up. He said he had taken another job and wouldn't be able to come finish until Tuesday. I explained the issues with the drywall and that we really needed him to come finish since I had already paid him. He didn't show up until Tuesday morning. I showed him the spots to repair, and told him we needed it done by the end of the day. He worked again for two hours, he did sand a couple spots but I still have the exact same problems showing threw. He came down with his supplies and said he mudded again and told my husband he would get in touch with him on when he would finish. I called him that afternoon after returning from work to see when he planned on finishing and he never has returned my phone call. I realize it was my huge mistake to pay him early and try to help him out, its a mistake I will never do again. The door he installed to the attic was a cut piece of drywall that isn't exactly straight and I had to add the magnetic latch and door handle myself. Now my husband and I have to fix the upstairs ourselves. Its upsetting because we could have done the job he did and saved ourselves a lot of money but we wanted it done by a professional, which isn't what we got.
