This company has been professional, courteous, and responsive, from initial contact though contract engagement and job completion. I will note that I was on site to observe the actual work as it was performed and was impressed with the attention to detail, level of quality, timely performance and final clean-up at job completion. One could not tell they had been there except for the new roof itself and it looks great!
In addition, based on my construction experience, my confidence level in the completed product being of good quality is very good.
In Summary, if you are interested in a good quality job at a reasonable price I would highly recommend this company.
I chose Taylor Roofing over the other estimates not because he was the lowest price (he was in the middle price-wise) but the reviews I had read about him were all great, and anyone I spoke to about him had nothing but good things to say about his workmanship and integrity. Phillip answered any questions I had promptly and in detail as well as provided me with insurance documentation I requested.
He worked around my schedule and completed the job in record time and left my property as if he was never there. Phillip (the owner of the company) showed up promptly at 7:00am exactly when he said he would be there and work started right away.
His crew wasted no time protecting my property with tarps and wood and removing the existing shingles and felt down to the decking. I was told that the decking ( the wood under the shingles ) was in great shape and there was no need for any replacement. Within a couple of hours, the back side of my roof had new felt, and they had begun installing the new GAF HD architectual shingles. Phillip jumped in with half the crew and started removing the old roofing off the front of the house while the rest of the crew continued installing the new shingles on the back.
One of the reasons I decided to go with Talyor Roofing was the quality workmanship his company does and this includes hand nailing instead of using air nailers. This may seem "old fashioned" but it makes a big difference in the quality of the end product. Using air nailers may be easier and a little faster for the crew but it can cause damage to the shingles and the decking if not done carefully. A misfire from an air gun can split the shingle or send a nail through the shingle at an angle and leave it unattached or loose.
The Phillip and his crew were done and cleaned up by 5:00pm that same day and my roof was beautiful and my property pristine.
I would recommend Taylor Roofing to anyone I know, and I would not hesitate to hire him for any other work I need done.
Great job guys and thanks for giving us piece of mind during the storms that came a few days later!
I scheduled the new roof less than a week out and he and his crew showed up on time. Hand nailing does take longer, but there is less potential for damaging the shingles or nailing into a gap in the decking because there is much more tactile feedback. Also, he always strips off all the felt, since you really don't know what the decking is going to look like until you've seen it. Several companies don't go that extra step if the felt looks good, but there is always the chance of having a bad deck board underneath a seemingly fine strip of felt.
Philip concentrated on the flashing and some of the detail work while the rest of his crew of four guys worked on everything else. They would only work in sections in case the weather turned unexpectedly, that way the home was never in any real danger of water damage. It ended up taking about two and half days to complete, but probably could have been finished in two. At the end of the second day they didn't want to risk having an unfinished section with expected bad weather on the way.
After the roof was done Philip called to give me an update and ask if I had any questions or concerns.
All-in-all I was very pleased with every aspect. I feel like I got quite a bit of extra attention to detail for the same cost as many of the other estimates I'd received. I would not hesitate to recommend Taylor roofing to anyone in the future.
Mr. Taylor is so honest the top of the line roof was actually cheaper now than his earlier bid due to his lowered cost. How many roofers would do that? The roof was on in a day and a half, with EXCELLENT cleanup.
I am VERY pleased with Mr. Taylor's work.
roof, rotting decking and shingle overhang issues. Mr. Taylor came out,
got on the roof and fixed my leak for free! There was some debris
lifting a shingle. The other roofer did not even get on the roof, just
guess that it was the flashing around the shingle.
Taylor then
gave me a quote to repair the other roofing issues of $275 - more than
$1,000 less than my other estimate! He was very timely and it looks
great!
I would definitely recommend and use him again!
The roof replacement was carefully planned around unpredictable rainy weather. The roof was replaced in sections to allow it to never be exposed to the weather without shingles. The old roof was replaced with architectural shingles which look amazing. I also had a ridge vent installed to eliminate the old power vents that allowed access into my attic for squirrels. My chimney was re-flashed and the flashing where my walls met was also replaced with step flashing at Mr. Taylor's recommendation. All pipe boots were replaced with lead boots and painted to match. They even removed and re-installed my satellite dish with no issues. I had TV service back the same day without having to realign the dish.
One part of my roof was somewhat wavy. I asked every roofer about this and none of them wanted to acknowledge its existence. They said that they would just go back over it and everything would be fine. Mr. Taylor removed the decking, found where the roof was framed improperly, fixed it, then installed new decking. Now this section of the roof looks great. If I had chosen anyone else, I would still have a wavy roof. I really appreciated this extra step.
Mr. Taylor was around during most of the work and was very particular with how the work was performed. I appreciated this since it shows that doing it right was just as important as getting it done. Everything was cleaned up very well and very little debris was left behind. In the end, my new roof looks awesome. I could not be happier with it. The installation is still new and only time will tell the quality of the work. However, I am confident that it will hold up and that Taylor Roofing will be around if there is a problem.
A couple things that may help those interested in Taylor Roofing: 1. Taylor Roofing may not give you the best first impression due to their informal nature. They can be semi-difficult to get on the phone. This is due to the fact that Mr. Taylor tends to answer all phone calls and it's not unusual for it to roll to voice mail. I don't recall his mailbox having a personal greeting, so you could be left in doubt as to whether or not you called the right number. If he does answer, it will probably be with a "Hello" which could also make you wonder if you called the right number. You did, just leave a voice mail or ask if you reached Taylor Roofing and you'll be impressed the rest of the way. What Taylor Roofing lacks in first impressions is made up in every other step along the way. You will be hard pressed to find someone else as knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to replacing your roof.
Ultimately, would you rather hire someone that is excellent in customer relations but lacking in roofing abilities or vice versa? I chose the latter. Mr. Taylor is very involved and determined to help you understand everything that needs to be done and why. He does not try to push upgrades or pressure you in any way. He will also spend a lot of time with you going over every detail. I even got on the roof with him so he could show me areas that needed re-flashing. No one else went through as much effort. They all left their estimate and ran.
2. Taylor Roofing does not normally paint pipe vents to match the roof. This has nothing to do with the quality of the roof, but I believe it looks a lot better when the pipes blend with the roof. I asked for the pipes to be painted and Taylor Roofing obliged with no difficulty and no extra charge. It just isn't something they do by default. If this is important to you just ask for it and it will be accommodated.
