Mr. Tice handled this project in a professional manner from start to finish. He returned phone calls promptly, and finished the work on the agreed-upon date. He even suggested that we wait a few extra days for the wood to cure before painting. The result is a beautiful screened porch that should add value to our home. Pricing was very reasonable as well.

We selected Mike after receiving buds from a number of builders. His price was among the lowest and most importantly he returned our calls promptly. Once we met with him, we made minor adjustments to our plans (through Mark Tidwell & Associates) whom Mike had dealt with before. We did our financing and our lender put Mike through an in depth background check and he came through with flying colors. Mike is very good to deal with and answered our myriad of questions as we were there daily watching the progress. He encouraged us to ask questions of his sub contractors, most who have been with him for years. Throughout the whole process he kept us updated and put us in contact with his suppliers, where we got quality items at very good prices. He set allowances for cabinets, lights and kitchen appliances and gave us credits in the end for where we were able to save money. When all was said and done we only exceeded our original contract by less than $5000 (and most of that was because we wanted an upgrade in our cabinets. We are very pleased with our house and would recommend Mike Tice and Tice Construction to anyone wanted to build.

We have now been in our house for over 6 months and are very satisfied.

Mike Tice with  Tice Construction is an amazing guy!  This is the third time that we've built a home (two in Indiana) and this was by far the best building experience that we've had so far!  We both initially really liked Mike right away but decided that we should have two other contractors from Angie's List  give us an estimate as well.  Tice Construction ended up coming in with the lowest quote, about 13-16% less than the other builders that we interviewed, but what we really liked most about Mike was that he was very humble and willing to take on the healthy home building aspect saying that he really wanted to learn about the building biology and would be more than willing to do whatever it would take to build us a healthy home (compared to the other builders who said they would do whatever we wanted).  We walked through two other houses that he built and checked out his references who all said wonderful things about him.  It was a joy to work with Mike who is a third generation builder and it was neat to see his dad and son along side of him on the job site. How wonderful to see three generations working together on our home, something that we don't often see.  By Mike doing some of the work himself on our house, this ended up saving us money on our project which we were so grateful for.  Mike was easy to work with and always so prompt with returning phone calls or emails to answer our many questions.  He was great at organizing meetings with the various subcontractors when needed to make sure that everything was done the way that we wanted.  We liked how he was conscientious to follow the list of building specifications that we obtained from a building biologist to make sure that we got the healthy home that we were after as some of our family members have environmental allergies and sensitivities.  He also consulted with our building biologist to get some of his questions answered which was also helpful.  Mike came out to the job site frequently if he wasn't working there himself to make sure that everything was going well.  All of his subcontractors were excellent companies and friendly folks to work with who did a great job on our new home.  The only subcontractor that we were disappointed in was his HVAC company that did not want to take on the healthy house HVAC which meant we had to look for another company which ended up being quite a chore as hardly any local companies wanted to do this job because they did not like straying from the standard way of doing things.  The company we ended up selecting did a good job but really slowed down our building project.  On hind site we should have selected the HVAC company well in advance, but who would have known that hardly anyone wanted to do this work!  This prevented our house getting done when we wanted it to as well as other factors like the weather and the cabinet person taking a bit long to order our cabinets and a few mistakes occurred that caused a delay as well as following the healthy house guidelines, but in the end, this home was worth the wait because building a home according to healthier standards is more difficult and time consuming as there are so many various details to attend to.  We liked the flexibility of Mike as we did have to make a few adjustments and changes here and there, but this did not seem to bother him.  He was kind and courteous to us throughout the project.  The only other things that went wrong which were very few as mostly everything went right were that one of the workers sprayed a chemical cleaner onto the woodworking near the end of the building process which caused a chemical reaction to occur with the cabinet finishes which then led to an allergic reaction but Mike was very apologetic and humbly said that he would do whatever it took to clean it up and he did, and over time the chemicals have outgased and are not bothersome any more; we ended up going over budget but were not made aware of how much until the end of the project; and the subcontractors sometimes left trash on the building site but this was eventually all cleaned up.  In the end we ended up with the a gorgeous home and this home is the healthiest one that we've ever lived in.  We sleep so much better here than we did in our rental house and there is very little dust compared to the other homes that we've lived in.  The central dehumidification is wonderful as well as the open cell spray foam insulation (no more cancer causing itchy fiberglass in the air stream or in the attic).  We love the warmth and openness as well as the craftsman style look to our new home. Mike has been very good about coming back to fix anything that has needed to be repaired since we've moved into our new house.  Our whole family loves our new house and we are so very grateful to Mike Tice and his team for helping us to build a superb healthy house!  Mike excels at communication.  He ALWAYS  kept the lines of communication open which was extremely important when trying to build a home.  Tice Construction deserves an A+ in the area of customer service and communication because Mike always makes himself available!

My home was destroyed in the April 27, 2011 tornando and Mike Tice with Tice Construction was going around the area assisting people....I talked with him about demolishing the rest of my home and building the new home on the same property.  He was very interested and he began the process.  His professionalism made it very easy during the building process.   He always kept us informed on every phase of the construction which really took the stress away from the everyday hassles.  The quality of the new home is awesome and an overall excellent experience.

My home was flooded with 4ft of water by rain and storms. We lost everything that was not it top cabinets. When I called Mike he offered to come over the morning after the flood and help with clean up. He and his crew were amazing from day one. He came out and met with the insurance adjuster and went room by room with him to make sure he didn't miss anything. He pointed out EVERYTHING he saw to the adjuster and fought to get me upper and lower cabinets. (the flood only damaged the lower and the insurance didn't want to pay for a new set) Not only did he help with the insurance claim, he knew we would be homeless during the repair process because he had to gut the whole house. FEMA doesn't provide money for alternate housing so he went to work IMMEDIATELY and finished in FIVE weeks as promised. He saw where FEMA allotted more money than it would cost him to repair some things and instead of being greedy and doing the minimum and keeping the profit HE UPGRADED MY ENTIRE HOUSE. Some of the things he did - He replaced ALL the light fixtures that looked like garbage with very nice ceiling fans. He scrapped the popcorn ceiling off and repainted. He fixed the privacy fence that was not even covered by flood insurance. He got me upgraded cabinets in the kitchen and got top and bottom. He knocked down a wall and created an office space for me. Finally, he upgraded my shower. I literally have a brand new house. On top of all that he answered his phone! He didn't mind questions and he didn't even get upset when I changed my mind about something. I can not sing his praises enough. He was fair, honest, and trustworthy. I recommenced him to all my neighbors and he has done a good job for them as well. He made the whole process easy!

He started building our house on August 5, 2010 and we moved in December 07, 2010.  He would not wait for the insurance company to pay in 3 installments, he just did the job and waited for the insurance company to pay us.  We are very thankful for Mr. Tice and his crew.  They worked very hard to get us in our house before the end of the year.  He would show us each piece of wood or fixtures be fore he installed it.  Tice Construction is all right with me.  I only wish we had more builders like him.

They are great and they come when they say they would.  The work was done the way it was said in the contract.  They answered my questions and fixed any problems that came up promptly.
