They went out of their way, as usual, to try and find less expensive fixes first. Called me before doing any work to confirm I was ok with it and gave me the price. Found that something else they hadn't quoted me had to be done once they were in there, but offset the cost with free labor on other repairs since they didn't tell me about it first so they could get the car ready when I needed it.

My vehicle's check engine light came on. My OBD2 scanner produced a code that suggested a bad battery. My spouse took the vehicle to Forest Hills Garage for an oil change along with their "professional" opinion regarding the check engine light. They told her that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to a bad alternator that needed to be replaced immediately.
They quoted a $687 overall charge for labor + parts. I thought that was ridiculous, but they claimed that the part itself would cost $413 with a 3 yr warranty. (I cross-checked the price for an alternator against 6 different vendors-- several offered lifetime warranties yet none of their prices surpassed $200). So we bought the part ourselves and my spouse brought it back to Forest Hills Garage for installation.
Here are the highlights:
(1) They misdiagnosed the problem! The check engine light came back on one day after picking up the vehicle. It was not a bad alternator-- it was a bad battery as my OBD2 scanner initially reported.
(2) They pulled the old alternator out of the vehicle without our consent. We told them to wait for us to pick up the vehicle so we could resolve the issue ourselves. When we arrived to reclaim the car keys, they told us the alternator had already been pulled out. They claimed a simple misunderstanding/miscommunication, but it was obvious that they just wanted to force us to use their services.
(3) Their pricing was awful. They attempted to charge double the current market value for a part that we ultimately did not need.
Forest Hills Garage does not appear to be conducting honest business anymore. We do not intend to use their services in the future.

The service provider we used for auto service was in Montgomery. My daughter was the one that use it. It was Forest Hills. They were excellent. They were excellent. This was for our daughter. We referred her to them and she said that they were courteous. They sent her a thank you note afterwards. They gave her all the information. I spoke to them as well before they even started to do the repairs. They explained everything to me. They were courteous, detailed about everything to her, a good ball park figure about how much it would be and it was just right on target, it wasn't any more, maybe a little less than what they quoted to her. They were excellent and after a week later or a few days later they sent her a thank you card. She is definitely going to go back but not for the same issue but if there are any issues that she has with her car. She has actually referred them to a couple of people at her job.

They did an outstanding job. I took my car in with a serious leak in the coolant system. They diagnosed the problem within 2 hours and fixed it within 4. They were very responsive and quite nice. The quality seems good as I have been driving the car for 2 weeks with no problems. They also seemed fair and honest. I can clearly see on the engine where they replaced the broken part with a new one, so I am certain they actually did about $260 worth of work. They also did not try and take advantage of me by and quot;fixingand quot; things that were not broken. Overall I highly recommend.

My daughter went to a big box store to get an oil change and checkup before driving home to Tampa from Montgomery Alabama, The big box store she took her car to told her that the car was leaking oil and they wouldn't be able to do an oil change. They recommended that she take the car to a well-known nationwide mechanic shop. This shop told her yes the car was leaking oil because the screw that gets removed duing oil changes was stripped. They went on to blame it on whoever the last person was that had changed the oil. Hmm, big box store maybe? They said the entire pan would have to be replaced right-away at a cost of $700 and to certainly not to drive the car to Florida,
Living in Florida and unfamilar with any mechanics in Montgomery, I immediately got onto Angie's list and read the reviews on several reputable mechanics in area. Based on the great reviews they had received, I instructed my daughter to immediately take her car to Forest Hills Garage. They told her that her car did indeed have a leak, but it was a very minor leak and that it would be perfectly fine for her to drive back down to Florida for Thanksgiving. They also did a complete inspection of the car for her long trip.
So, there was no need for an immediate fix at a cost of $700 as was recommended by the nationwide mechanic. I later spoke with John at Forrest Hills who told me what they found with my daughter's car and he reassured me that it was perfectly safe for the long road trip back to Tampa. So today I'm giving thanks to John and his crew for their caring and honest service. Should the need arise, my daughter will not hesitiate to take her car back to Forrest Hills. They are awesome!

We took the car in one day expecting it to be ready by the end of the day. However, they had to order the tires so they weren't able to start on it til the next day. When we arrived to pick it up, we had to wait a little while because they had gotten behind.
Work was good and we will use them again. Just hope they have the right tires for our other car!

I like it because they give military discounts and I am retired military. It is owned by a family and they have always treated me really nice. Sometimes you have to wait on them to get the car done; they are not busy like a dealership but they are pretty good size. I trust them with my car and will use them again in the future. They do a good job but you are going to have to wait a little bit or else leave your car.

They performed good, though I think they should have explained what diagnosis was more clearly, They performed satisfactory. I stopped by Gray's Auto on way home to get belts replaced and to get Forest's prices evaluated for honesty(was determined to be book prices and normal). Gray's belt installation( parts and labor )was priced lower and gray's had a much more comfortable waiting room. Forest Hills did the job as requested, but not sure the Spark plugs needed changing being I had replaced them just 7 months prior. Rather than replacing everything requested when I requested a tune up, they could have inspected and replaced what was only needed. I would go to Forest Hills again, Though I would likely go to Gray's first.

They weren't horrible. We had to take the vehicle back multiple times for them to finally identify the problem rather than being able to get it done in one day. It is a small Mom and Pop kind of place and they didn't provide transportation. It took longer for diagnostics than it did to fix it. The price was reasonable. It takes a long time to get things fixed. You have to work around Monday through Friday from 8 to 5, which is difficult for working people.

I'm new in town on an 8 week visit. I found Forrest Hills Garage on Angie's list with very favorable reviews. Let me tell you the reviews were spot on.
I had a check engine light come on in my 2003 Camry and knew it was either the catalytic converter or a sensor going bad. They diagnosed it as a possible catalytic converter problem and reset my vehicles onboard computer. They road tested the vehicle and the check engine light did not come back on. They told me to keep an eye on it and if it comes back on to give them a call. When I picked up my car they waived the diagnostic fee.
It's hard to find an honest mechanic and when you find one you hold onto them like gold. This business is as good as it gets. I'm a total stranger with out of state plates and they treated my respect, professionalism and made me feel at home. I wish we had more folks like this back in San Antonio. If I'm still in town and need vehicle maintenance, I'm taking my car back to Forrest Hills Garage.

They are extremely reliable in the fact that what they say they will do they do. They don't fix other stuff then tell you about it later. They are get to know their customers and what their customers want.

Received an accurate and quick response to e-mail. Price quoted was lower than 2 others. Vehicle was ready when promised.
Very courteous staff. Little confusion regarding work to be performed, but I think it may have been because I was not clear enough. Overall we had a very good experience and will take our other vehicles here for service.

Took car in for center and right rear brake lights not working. Not only did they complete the job but stated I needed tires as well. Offered me a set of used tires with great tread for $100. Great service, great attitude, great cost, and great job. Very pleased. Have told my family, friends, and co-workers about them. Would recommend them to anyone and plan on using them for my car service from this time forward.

Actually had multiple services performed on two vehicles. Not a great month for us, but just like all the other times, Forest Hills Garage did exactly what was needed and nothing more. They gave an initial estimate for replacing the starter on one car, then after the work was done I found that they'd discovered the starter was fine and it was just the ignition switch...a much less expensive part ...that needed replacing. Cut the cost in half. Time and again they've saved me money.

From the time you walk in the door you are greeted by Joe or Jason... both very professional and pleasant people. We do a lot of business with them and they have always been good to us. We get the best rates there for everything. They charge half what everyone charges for a combo oil change and tire rotation. We strayed from this once and will NEVER do it again. We got ripped off. Going to Montgomery for car services isn't very convenient for us BUT I will use them from now on, no matter what.

Response from FOREST HILLS GARAGE
"In an effort to earn your trust, please allow me to offer you a 50.00 credit toward any service or repairs. I understand your concerns with the multiple coolant leaks and I want to prove to you that your experience is not typical of how we do business. Also, I want to take care of your next oil change at no charge. We want to show you what a family business of over 30 years can do and how committed we are to your satisfaction. Thank you, Jason Churchwell"

They are very good mechanics, the price is okay, but they never return the car on time. Whenever we put a car in there we know it’s going to be more than a day. They are good and we will keep using them as long as we can plan on not having our car for a few days.
