I went through the car wash at the Millbrook location; this particular car wash had 2 attendants who performed a pre-wash before actually driving the car through the automated car wash. One was on each side of the car. Neither of these attendants folded my mirrors in before directing me to enter the car wash. At the time, I didn't think about it, but I will never forget this important detail in the future.
As the rinse cycle began, I glanced over to my left and observed my driver's mirror had been snapped off and was dangling by a wire. When I initially shared this with the attendant, he asked if it was already damaged. It took him a while to take down my information and since this was a Friday afternoon, he informed me that it would be Monday or Tuesday before anyone would be able to get back in touch with me.
I did receive a call Monday morning and was told to go get an estimate on having the mirror replaced. I had a local mechanic give me an estimate: a new mirror would cost $326.80. Since I was already taking my car in for other work, I wanted to have the mirror replaced at the same time so as to save myself an additional trip to the mechanic. Entec told me they should cover the expenses but they couldn't cut me a check just yet. When I asked, I was told that I would have to pay for it out of pocket if I wanted to have the work done at the same time as my other repairs that I already had scheduled. At that time, I wasn't able to fork out that much money in addition to the other work already being done.
I did receive a call a few days later letting me know that Entec had a check for me. The check was at their corporate office on Zelda Road. I asked if they could mail the check to me and they were not willing to do that. They required me to pick it up in person. I live in the Millbrook area and work in a completely different side of town, so this was not convenient at all. In addition, they closed at 4:00, making it difficult for me to even get to their office without having to take time off work.
When I spoke to the administrative officer, she could not initially find my claim. When she did, she informed me that she located it and the check was written out to the mechanic that had provided the estimate. I asked for the check to be written to me instead since I was moving 1300 miles in just a few weeks and I might not even time to get this work done before making my move. She refused to make the check out to me and told me I could speak to the manager, that he was the only person able to make that decision.
I called and left a message for the manager, but he never returned my phone call. I called everyday for a week and I was never able to get in touch with him. When I was able to schedule a time to finally make a special trip to pick up the check, the office was closed for lunch. Because I was working in a limited time frame and had other things to do, I went to the mechanic and had them install the new mirror and came back later in the afternoon to pick up the check. Even after telling them that I had already paid for the new mirror, they refused to make the check out to me and told me they felt sure the mechanic would cash the check for me, hence making it even more inconvenient. Another trip to the automotive shop...
I will give them credit for taking responsibility and replacing the damage that they caused, but they certainly made it difficult to go about getting the damage rectified.
