First it was WAY overpriced, over 100 dollars for them to do the yearly inspection plus then they charged me another 150 in parts and that was with a 10% discount because I work at the Sea Lab. But they are the closest dive shop to Mobile and I'm new to the area. After looking around their store when I went to pick my stuff up everything there cost more than it should have. But that's not the bad part. Let me start by saying that I have been diving for over 10 years and that I have a dive master certification as well as tech diving. I used my regulator for the first time today after picking it up from Gulf Coast divers and on my first dive I used way more air than normal. On my second dive my buddy noticed bubbles coming out of one of my low pressure hoses, when we got back to shore I started taking apart my regulator to see why it was leaking and it had been over tightened so much into the first stage that the metal cracked! Now my first stage has a piece of broken off metal stuck in it that I have yet to be able to get out and the hose on the regulator will have to be replaced. Let me be clear, there was nothing wrong with my gear when I took it to Gulf Coast Divers and then AFTER they did a safety inspection it failed on the first use. So in summary I spent 300 dollars to have Gulf Coast Divers destroy my gear and now if I can't get the broken piece out of the first stage I will be spending another 400 dollars to replace it and the cracked hose. Unfortunately, Gulf Coast Divers has 4 of my tanks to do a visual inspection (I dropped them off when I picked up my regulator) but once I get those back I will never ever go back there again. I will gladly drive the extra miles to go to a dive shop in Florida that is competent.
