Hardwood flooring was installed, nailed down, in my kitchen. After about 3 weeks it started to squeak. Now we can actually feel the movement of the flooring and there are gaps of separation. I talked with Winks approximately a month ago and was advised this is common because of settling and the weather. It is only getting worse.
They showed up when promised and did a great job installing floor. Crew was professional. The next day a painting crew showed up to complete painting new shoe moulding. Very happy with product and service.
The only concession was the promise of generous remnants. Well I guess they didn't like me anymore than I liked them. For a FIRST in my life a carpet installer left not one scrap of remnant carpet after the install.
There are a lot of options for flooring. I would avoid Wolde.
The flooring installers did an excellent job in laying the floor and cleaning up after themselves. They didn't even take a lunch today, in order to make sure the job was completed on time. Shortly after they left, the carpet guy came to finish up where the carpet and wood met and then immediately after that the 2 ladies were here to caulk and do touch up pain on the quarter round. I am extremely pleased with the work and the wood floor - it's beautiful.
Overall it was a great experience and I highly recommend Wolde Flooring.
The first project delay was because they said the granite saw broke and it would take a couple days to get parts before they could work on the granite. The second project delay was when they broke one of our two slabs of granite on the way to our house. They said they got a flat tire and the granite tipped and broke. We had to go back to Triton Stone and select another slab of granite. Once delivered, they would have to recut the slab before installation resulting in even more time that we didn't have use of our kitchen.
While lowering the breakfast bar, our dishwasher had to be removed from its elevated position in the breakfast bar. As the raised bar was adjusted to counter height, the opening for the dishwasher became a problem because our dishwasher (Fisher & Paykel dish drawers with integrated cabinet facing) was not fitting correctly into the opening they created. In effort to make it fit, the dishwasher was pulled in and out of the cabinet several times trying to make it fit. As a result, the dishwasher was damaged with the top dish drawer not closing completely, a cord was severed in the bottom drawer and the dishwasher was left hanging out of our cabinet. We later discovered that there was also electrical problems when the dishwasher turned on spontaneously one night.
After two delays, the counter tops were finally ready to be installed. The counter tops were delivered with no cut out for our cooktop. They laid the counter in place and dry cut the ENTIRE OPENING of our 36" cooktop IN OUR HOUSE! Danny Wolde, who has been managing the project to this point, told us that there is no way to pre-cut the cooktop opening without breaking it and this was the only way to do it. He said they do it all the time. Plumes of powdery fine white dust covered all open areas of the house including our master bedroom off the kitchen and even the kids rooms on the other side of the house. When I called Danny to complain, there was an absolute lack of concern about the mess they made and said he would send "the girls" to come help me clean that afternoon. (On a side note, I later found out "the girls" are wives of the twin owners of this company but never identified themselves as being in the family. They don't even use the Wolde name to identify themselves) I developed bronchitis and had laryngitis for a week. As that powdery dust continued to settle we ended up having to completely clean the house 3 times to contain the mess they made.
When it became time to address the broken dishwasher, Danny recognized that it was their fault and offered to replace it with an LG model. We explained to him what we had was Fisher & Paykel dish drawers with integrated cabinet facing not an LG dishwasher. We allowed Danny to call an appliance repairman out to fix the dishwasher but that didn't work out. We told Danny that we were tired of accomodating him and the broken dishwasher needs to be replaced. He said he would research how to get them replaced and would call back. Danny called back and said he talked to his partners and they decided to give us $100 to compensate for the cleaning mess, replace the dish drawers with a STAINLESS STEEL model..not the integrated cabinet facing we had when we started the project... and that installation of the dishwasher was our responsibility. He said if we didn't like it to contact his lawyer.
We could not imagine how their solution to this problem was an ultimatum and threatening us with a lawyer. We also believed that if you break something you replace exactly what you broke and we would not accept a lesser model from them. We went to the Wolde Flooring store to explain the situation face to face with Leon Wink. Leon agreed to replace our dish drawers with the integrated cabinet facing. We told him we could not work with Danny anymore and we wanted him and Terry Wolde (Danny's father) to finish the project. Leon agreed. Terry Wolde came to our house to pick up a spice drawer as reference for get a cabinet match and also said he would take responsibility for finishing this project. Once he left, we never saw or heard from Terry Wolde again.
Leon sent us an email saying their cabinet contact at Woodland Homes had a death in the family and he would have cabinet options by the end of the day. Leon stopped communicating with us at this point. For a week we left messages for Leon and Terry requesting calls back. Terry and Leon failed to return any calls. Finally we got hold of Leon and he promised to email us "options." We received no email. We kept calling to follow up and again no calls were returned. We finally went out to the store and was able to get our spice drawers back that Terry had taken 3 weeks earlier. Leon was at the store and promised another email and said they were having trouble matching the cabinets. For a project that was supposed to take no more than 10 days, it took Leon 3 weeks to respond once their ultimatum and threat was made. His response was that matching the cabinets could not be done so they offered $1200 for a new dishwasher and $500 for project delays. Ordering a new dishwasher, having custom cabinet panels made and installation would be on us. They were refusing to take the effort required to fully fix what they broke.
We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We gave them two options for resolving the problem. The first was to complete the project with the integrity we expected them to have in the first place and the second option was to abandon the project and we would take the balance on the contract and hire competent professionals to complete the project. Wolde Flooring chose to abandon the project.
The flooring was put in poorly, and full of knots. The sanders/stainers probably earned their money filling the knots, but then they oversanded into existing rooms, damaging tile, granite in front of the fireplace, and wood flooring in surrounding rooms.
The floors squeeked.
I had to fight with the owner for several days before he finally conceded to fixing the squeeking floors, and agreeing to split the cost of sanding and refinishing the wood floor that was so obviously damaged by the oversanding.
At that point, we paid the final payment, and will never do business with Wolde again.
They do good work but it's not worth the angst.
Since their response time was so bad at every step of the process, I canceled the granite countertop in the master bath as I could not afford additional delay to the job since they had already proven that their responsiveness was terrible.
