The contractors were very good. They measured it and it came out perfect. I need them to come back and do the back splash because I did not like how the guy did it.

They did a good job. We have had them here three times. I have thirty three windows in my house so I did not buy them all at once. The guy that came by the house was very cordial. He did all of the measurements and told us exactly what was going to happen. Then the workers came out later to put them in. They were very good and efficient. They did not leave a mess behind. I will use them again.

Lawn Mower & Power Tool Repair
I had already selected the mower I wanted from consumer ratings and relative prices. A clerk saw me looking at the mower display and after findng out I had selected said she would go get a cart to get it out to my car. She came back with the cart, loaded the lawnmower, went through check out with me, then pushed the cart out to my car and helped load the mower. She was knowledgeable, helpful, and an excellent rep for the store.

Carpet Installation
We had two problems with our carpet. The Mohawk carpet we were sold was said to be stain proof and great for people with pets, but we have found it to be very bad with respect to stain removal and it generally looks dirty all the time. We've had it professionally cleaned TWICE within the first 6 months of owning the product and that did not help at all. We also had a problem with where the seam was located in our living room.

First, Home Depot sent out a guy to measure the carpet. This is where the seam problem started. Our old carpeting had the seam in the living room under the couch. The guy who did the measuring measured the carpet twice and decided to put the seam in a different place (in a high traffic area in the middle of the living room). Apparently this helped us to save about $50 on carpet cost. They made us sign something which said it was okay to put the seam in that place (we are not carpet installers, so we really had no idea what this meant...but learned later that we could've told the guy to keep the seam under the couch).

The next team that came in were the Romanoff floor covering subcontractors. They installed the carpet. They were very nice guys and seemed to know their stuff. Before they left, we could already see that the seam in the living room was not sitting correctly. The installers came back in and tried another tactic, but it still looked pretty bad. Apparently all of the carpet fibers were lined up as they were supposed to, it was just a bad place to have the seam since it was a high traffic area. We were assured the seam would settle down after time. We waited two weeks (as suggested), then had Romanoff come out again. They then had their installers come back out to try to tap down the seam. That didn't work. The next time out the supervisor came out. Nothing productive came from that visit. We waited another 3 months and called them again and they sent a very nice rep from the district out (Bryan Artioli). Bryan was the fifth person from Romanoff to come out (Again, Romanoff is a sub to Home Depot. They do the installation. I am not sure if Romanoff also employed the man who did the initial measuring of the carpet .). Bryan is trying to get HOme Depot to authorize the reinstallation of the carpet with the seam under the couch. It's been about 2 months since his visit, so I'm pretty sure we're out of luck. However, Bryan did have the right attitude and was trying to make sure he did whatever he could to resolve the situation. I believe he is hitting red tape at the corporate level of Romanoff and Home Depot. That said, we will probably replace this carpet next year with something else.

We saved our money for years to be able to pay cash for the initial carpeting (might have had some recourse if we had used our credit card, but we didn't use the card to purchase the carpeting). I would not use Home Depot again for carpeting. I would use another service where the installer and the provider of the carpet are in the same company. Perhaps someone like Kemp's. The situation with Home Depot has been a real pain and has required me to take about 5 to 6 hours off from work (an hour for each visit). The cost of those hours far outweighs the $50 in carpet cost that was saved by putting the seam in the high traffic area. Hope this review helps someone before they make the same mistake we did.

UPDATE (August 30th, 2012):
So now it's about a year later and we still haven't had any success with Home Depot. We did have an independent evaluator come out that was sent from Mohawk carpet. We gave a sample of the extra carpet to the guy so he could have the Mohawk lab test it to determine if, in fact, the stain proofing stage was missed (which is what we think happened). Periodically we get a call from Home Depot asking us about the claim on the carpet and if anything has been done (apparently Mohawk and Home Depot do not talk to each other when these claims come about).

I have already spoken to another company about replacing the carpet. Again, it's still new...but looks dirty most of the time (especially in the bedroom since that's a high traffic area). We will probably have to cough up the money for the next batch of carpeting ourselves. However, the Carpet One folks on North Parkway in Huntsville, AL seem to be pretty good (the new company we're going to use). They have the carpet and the installation based out of the same office (employees of the same company). Again, would stay away from Home Depot AND Mohawk carpeting. Just another note: We recently were on vacation and saw our exact Mohawk carpet in the condo we were renting. It looked as bad as ours at our house.

Window Service
Home Depot has the whole process all streamlined. I had to choose which windows to replace in my house and then choose which type of windows to do replace them with. I got something with a lifetime warranty so that while I'm in the house, Home Depot will replace the windows no matter how they break. I had an excellent experience with them. The price may seem high, but you have to keep in mind that I have that lifetime warranty. They still look great and seem new after 7 years. They are well insulated, and it made a big difference in the comfort level and noise level in my house.

The sales associate was extremely helpful - especially for someone that doesn't work on commission. They really need to pay those folks better! Anyway, the delivery was also great (timely, professional). I would recommend having them take the wooden crates back though.

I think the price was too high. The did have to reschedule once for the installation. The guys that came to install the carpet were fine and did the job fine. The guy that came out stated that he could use the tag strips that were already there. They then ended up charging us for new tag strips, so we had to get that charge taken off. They also advertised for $99 installation but then charged us for the pad and other little things. I feel like they tacked on a lot of additional charges that we were not told about. I would not use Home Depot again for carpet installation.

Hardware & Home Improvement Stores, Siding Service
It took over 3 months to get started. The communications with the installation manager in Nashville was very poor. The work done by the installers was excellent and I may use them again (not working for Home Depot anymore). They seemed very disorganized, and someone even mentioned a lot of turnover and reorganizations within the group. No post-service survey was sent although a letter was received saying it was on the way. I won't use them again although I will buy items from the retail store.
