My husband and I moved into one of Cottonwood's two bedroom apartments in June of 2010. Being our first place we were very excited, and not very knowledgeable about apartment life. Nevertheless, the first thing I noticed was that the current landlord did not clean the carpets as she had said she did. The second thing I noticed was that the complex pool was always dirty, the hours were never consistent, and the people in charge of chemicals were not knowledgeable at all. One day we went to the pool and it was a dark green color. Another instance was one morning the gate was left unlocked so I went for a swim; as I was getting out of the water one of the men from maintenance came running up to me to be sure I hadn't went swimming in the water as I informed him that I had he laughed and told me that he had just "shocked" the pool meaning he had just dumped a bunch of chemicals in it to clean it; he then informed me that he had locked the gate on purpose to keep people out, and I had better hope i didn't get a chemical burn, which I did. The worst instance happened in June of 2011, when the actual owner of the property came knocking on my door to tell my husband and I that we were behind 3 months in our rent. Dumbfounded, we informed them that we had payed our rent on time every single month in cash since we had moved in. The property owner informed us that the landlord was not allowed to take cahs and should have never taken cash from us. The property owners asked for some kind of proof that we had payed our rent, like receipts. Well this is when our first place naivety bit us on the hand, the landlord for the past 3 or 4 month had told us that she was "out of receipts" and she would "stick one in the mailbox" when she got more. We never received said receipts. Luckily we had online banking and we could show the property owner where we had taken out exactly the same amount for rent every month. When the property owner confronted the landlord with this in front of my husband and I her response was "I don't take cash. I have never taken cash from you." That being said even with her deceit and theft of our money out in the open the property owner allowed her to stay on as landlord. All in all I was very disappointed with my experience from Cottonwood, I would NEVER recommend anyone live here.
