These grades pertain predominantly to the fall 2013 semester, the first grade teacher and the head of school.
It is a long story which I've decided not to go into detail about here, after all. (I deleted my earlier, long, detailed review.)
Suffice it to say that I would not recommend the first grade teacher, nor the original toddler teachers. Our son's pre-primary and kindergarten experiences were outstanding -- he was happy and thrived, making great progress -- but his lead teacher resigned after he graduated from kindergarten. The remaining and new pre-primary teachers who were there last school year were quite good, and I think the same could probably be said for the newer toddler teachers (as far as I know).
The first grade teacher has an amazing low tolerance for what I consider normal classroom noise; we feel she has unrealistic expectations, behavior-wise, of first-graders. Communication was very poor, with her and with the head of school. It was not a good situation for our child.
Over the past few years, the board has become increasingly less democratic. It was in violation of its bylaws at least once, in a major way, when the board chair fired the head of school, in September of 2011, without consulting with other board members beforehand.
Wine was regularly served at board meetings (provided by the board chair), and wine was left in a classroom refrigerator more than once, where children could easily find it.
