England Home Inspections

I called Matt to do an inspection of a new house that was in the final stages of construction. The builder had requested that any inspections be done before the final walk-thru but they weren't going to have the power and water turned on until just before then. Matt was able to schedule a time for me the morning before the walk-thru but when we got there, the house was not ready. The power and water were on but it had not been cleaned up. Matt said that he could test the plumbing and electrical without the final cleanup and construction trash removal but that he could not do the complete inspection he normally did. He was very nice and rescheduled his inspection for later in the week.

After the house was cleaned, Matt returned and did a very thorough and professional job. He found a couple of items the builder had missed and pointed out a few other items that he thought may become a problem in the future if we did not keep an eye on them. He emailed me his very thorough report a few hours later which I was able to forward to the builder for his correction.

Matt left the radon tester in the house for 48 hours before returning to pick it up. The radon test was also emailed to me later that afternoon.

I found Matt to be very friendly, competent and professional. Although he did not find any major problems in this newly constructed house, his inspection was worth it for my family's peace of mind in buying our first newly constructed house.

We recently had Matt England inspect the home we are closing on in a week. He was recommended by our realtor. Matt showed up right on time and got straight to work. The house is only 3 years old so there weren't any huge issues to find, but he left no stone unturned and found a few small things to be fixed. Matt is a very friendly guy and very professional. He is happy to answer any questions you might have during the inspection.

My wife and I arrived at the house about 25 minutes before the specified time to look around the outside of the house. Matt England got there about 5-10 minutes early. Our realtor was about 10 minutes late. We all talked about different things while waiting for the realtor and my wife and I learned some things from Matt. When I told him I had been in the military, he immediately told me that I qualified for a $50 discount. Instead of the $300 he would have charged, it only cost us $250. We asked him many questions. Afterwards, we went over the problem areas that he found during the inspection. He promply sent me a very detailed report the next day by e-mail. I would use England Home Inspection again. I had no problem with him at all.

From the Onset, The inspection seemed to go very well. I phoned the owner/inspector to speak with him personally prior to the inspection. I was out of town and had a few specific areas that I had concern with. He was very friendly and informative, explaining he was licensed etc. Immediately following the inspection, the same professional attitude was noted to include a very professional looking report. Unfortunately, immediately after moving into the house, problems began to arise and noticable, visible flaws were evident. After a few months I bgan to question the inspection as things such as HVAC supply lines were collapsed, sink legs not secured to the floor, and doors, windows and trim were improperly hung to name just a few. When I contacted the Inspector to voice my concerns, he showed a very different and unprofessional side where he became agitated, angry, rude, and overall very unprofessional. After some investigation, I contacted the Alabama Builders Commission (ABC) and conveyed my displeasure with him as a licensed Home Inspector. I provided evidence of hi slack of customer service and relations, and also providing emails and my BBB complaint and his rebuttals. Within a few weeks, the ABC provided me a copy of a letter to advise him "To cease performing inspections until his license was up to date" or face additional fines. In summary: This inspector was misrepresenting himself as a State Licensed Home Inpsector. Recently when purchasing another home, a major broker in Huntsville was forced to discontinue the use of this same inspector due to licensing issues. It appears he has made a habit of misrepresentating himself over the past few years. The real issue is this persons's integrity and professionalism, which effects a consumer's ability to place trust in him. I highly recommend anyone planning on using him to verify his status before hiring him.
