John showed up on time and was very knowledgeable and courteous. He was patient and answered any questions I had in detail. He was also nice enough to tell me to call him and if I thought of any questions once he left. Will definitely hire him again next year.

My wife was here during the service and indicated that this was one of the most professional experiences in customer service she has ever had. The owner, who performed the service, is retired Navy and I am always glad supporting a vet. We will use this company again.

Excellent service! He arrived 15 minutes early, meticulously covered and taped the hearth area to keep everything clean, cleaned the chimney from up on the roof and then cleaned the fireplace through a hole in the plastic. He said he tries to leave things as clean, or cleaner, than when he arrived and he certainly did. He gave me some valuable information about how to prevent the fireplace from putting smoke in the room in a tightly sealed house. The whole visit took about 50 minutes. I was extremely pleased with the service and the cost.

We hadn't used the gas fireplace since we bought our house last year and figured it's finally time. Although very busy, John came highly recommended and so I scheduled with him for about 2 months out (the earliest appointment time for a two-story home). We wanted the chimney swept before we got the gas fireplace hooked back up, because it looked as if it hadn't been used in quite a number of years.
John came early, true to form. I arrived home 15 minutes early and he was already waiting patiently in my driveway. He didn't call me or anything, he was just early, as he says it's his "MO" (Modus Operandi). He got right to work and put down a large dropcloth in our living room to catch any debris, and carefully removed the old gas logs from the fireplace. I explained what we had seen, and he advised that we had NON-100% ventless gas logs that were old, from about the 1980's. This made sense, as the house was built in 1990. This also explains why my husband and I had to close the flue last year when we noticed a draft and some wasps were getting in through the fireplace. It turns out that for non-ventless gas logs, the flue has to be kept propped open with a metal clip so the escaping gas vapors can ride up the chimney. The people who lived there before us had simply tried to duct tape the flue closed, apparently without success and without investigating that it was propped open. John inspected the chimney and said remarkably, it had been cleaned after last use and it didn't need a sweep! He said he was only going to charge a service fee, therefore, and got to work cleaning the carbon soot from the gas logs off the walls of our fireplace and removing a few dead bugs he found. He used a very professional vaccuum that did NOT release any residue or odors into the air. He also inspected the old gas line from both inside and outside of our home. He cleaned up efficiently and passed me his recommendations. He said in order to stop drafts from a gap between the firebox and the fireplace wall my husband and I hadn't seen before, we could use silicone caulk. This would also keep most bugs out, since they follow the draft out into our house from around the outside of the firebox. Then he suggested we get the propane company to install a new gas line (to be sure and stay safe) when they come to install the gas tank outside and ask them to hook it up to some new 100% Ventless Gas logs. We can choose those ourselves and pay less he said, as the cold season draws to a close. There were other recommendations he made specific to our home as well.
Overall, John had all of the right equipment, was professional, courteous, tidy, timely, interested in cost savings for us, and extremely knowledgeable. Once we start using the fireplace, we'll be scheduling him to come back as our chimney sweep for sure! He's worth the wait!

John was prompt, professional, and polite. He was very conscientious in his prep and cleaning of the chimney area to make sure no ash went astray. I'm extremely happy with his work and will certainly hire him again. We called during his busiest season to make our appointment, so it did take several weeks for him to get to us, but he was well worth the wait.

We called Chimney Sweep after seeing reviews on Angie?s
List. John arrived ten minutes before
his appointment time (YEAH, nice to know there is someone that is punctual!).
He is very professional and courteous.
Cleaned our chimney which had not seen a cleaning for at least nine
years! We definitely recommend him and
will be calling him again in two years to come clean our chimney.

I found Chimney Sweep Company on Angie's list, and I can echo the many other positive reviews. John was punctual, courteous, and professional, and he charged about 20% less than I have paid for the same service from another company.

- I recently used Angie's List to locate and contact this company. I have critters in my chimney and needed help ASAP. I called on a Sunday and left message for a return call on Monday, when they were open. The ad specifies Huntsville AND Decatur services. I was told that Decatur service is not available. Sure wish this information was correct on Angie's List. Why do I pay for Angie's service when there is erroneous information from this company listed? Get it together!
