It was not a pleasant experience. Intitially we were comfortable hiring Bajito La Mano because his prompt response, eagerness to start, and fair price. The day of the project he arrived on time with himself and two others. He brought a woman who just stood and watched while the other worker completed majority of the work. He took my husband to home depot for us to purchase supplies needed to complete the project. He asked my husband if we wanted caulk around the stairs or quarter round. We opted for caulk, because he told us it was up to us on how we wanted it to look. We explicitly asked him if it would be okay to just use caulk and he said, yes. Near completion of the project, he asked us to inspect the stairs. We found that there were many issues. There was gapping, overhang, loose stair caps, protruding nails, caulk placed haphazardly, and damage to the spindles/existing structure. As we pointed out the issues, he made an effort to fix them, but often rebuttaled that it would be fine with paint, more caulk, or if we stopped walking on the freshly laid steps. He seemed to be in a hurry to leave for the day, and said he would come back the following day to fix any remaining issues. That evening, as I was using the stairs, I slipped and almost tripped down, because one of the stair edges, what's coming off. The following day he did return, and I let him know what the issue was. He then told us that this wouldn't be a problem if we would have opted for the quarterround and how he thought we were just being cheap and not wanting to buy it in the first place. We explained to him that he told us that it was an aesthetic choice and that we were relying on him for his a professional opinion for safety. He initially agreed to lay the quarter round but was going to charge us $200 to do the work. We explained that we didn't think that this was fair since the job was not done right initially and was the same project. He continued to say that he would have to pay his workers and how he already paid the man $250 and the woman $200. After agreeing to fix the problem, he took my husband to home depot, and while there told him that we should pay them because we're rich. Saturday evening, I called Angi to begin the complaint process. The same evening I messaged him letting him know that I did not want to file a complaint, but wanted him to finish the work without charging us more. On Sunday, he called me in the morning to let me know that his worker would not be able to make it that day because he was with his family but would come Monday, I told him okay. Sunday afternoon, he called me fussing at me saying how he should've charged us more money for the job initially, saying that we should not complain because it was cheap. He continued to ask us for money to finish the job, negotiating for $100 for gas. I told him I still did not feel comfortable giving him more money. Then he negotiated $50 for gas and for us to buy the nails for his nail gun. We told him we would buy the nails, but would not pay him more money. He agreed and told us he would come on Monday. We've tried several times to get in contact with him, he has not responded and has left our text messages on read. The stairs pose a falling hazard because the caps shift as you step on them.
