BURTON & HL GOODWIN SEPTIC

This was a nightmare. I called the business number and spoke to the owner's wife, who claimed that her husband was ill but her brother in law could come out right away.He arrives and before doing anything tells me I need a new septic pump (eventually, I find this to be true, but he didn't even look at anything before making this claim). Then, he tells me that will cost $10,000. Seriously. I told him no way. So he backed down and said he'd take a look, maybe it was something else. Lo and behold, the pump was now fine (since I clearly wasn't going to pay him without getting someone else in) and it was the float switch that needed replacing. He quoted me $350 which was too high, but he was sketchy and I needed a working septic system so I said yes. He does the work and I hand him a check, made out to the company. He insists that he can't take it because there is a problem with the bank, and he needs it made out in the wife's name. At this point I just want him off of my property, so I make a check out to the owner's wife. Then, over the weekend, the wife calls me multiple times because she is trying to take it to a check cashing place and they won't cash it without my approval, I guess worried about fraud (which clearly they should be). This is not my problem, so I ignored it. A month later my system was once again flooded. I did need a new pump, and I got it replaced for $1500 from Reliable Septic.
