.It would seriously take me a novel to describe how awful working with this company was. They are borderline criminal, and probably deserve to be in jail. The only reason I didn't sue them was that we agreed to sign lein waivers for each other so that they wouldn't try to squeeze any more money out of me, since technically there was a $5,000 charge I had not yet paid. It must be noted that AFTER they left, I spent $8,000 redoing & completing the work they didn't do. (They didn't finish the job.) Because I am not a lawyer, I do not really know the ins & outs of such dealings, but I definitely got taken advantage of. The following is a list of SOME of the horrors I encountered with them: 1. They required me to pay $10,000 upfront prior to any work being done. (I didn't know this at the time, but most reputable companies will not bill you AT ALL until SOMETHING has been completed.) 2. Two days into the job (and less than one week after that $10,000 check I wrote them) they told me they needed another $600 to move a vent pipe & raise the ceiling. These were things that clearly needed to be done from the beginning, because the plan was to completely take out the 1.5 bath & make them into 2 full bathrooms after moving all walls/fixtures/plumbing. 3. Although the contract I signed clearly stated the work would be permitted by licensed professionals, they did NOT take out a permit, nor did they use ANYONE with a license. 4. Because of #3, the plumbing & electrical work had to be REDONE. (I required them to find licensed professionals before I signed their lein waiver.) 5. GFI outlets were not grounded or didn't work. 6. Pieces for a light fixture were lost & never installed. 7. The toilets & tub were not vented. 8. The shower tile had to be completely removed & redone. 9. They left a live wire in my attic. 10. They didn't build the shower to the correct dimensions, so I had to buy a different vanity to fit into the space. 11. They were at the house while I was at work and went through other rooms. As I understand it, contractors should be supplying their people with everything from beverages to brooms. They helped themselves to my broom, disposable cups, took every writing utensil in sight, used my refrigerator including ice trays (found muddy fingerprints on my fridge & ice trays), and garbage bags. I found a case of Pepsi in my fridge that wasn't mine. I found a piece of jewelry knocked off a shelf & broken when they obviously took down a purse behind it. 12. They used the one spare tile for my bathroom as a cover for a hole in the floor. 13. They told me my walls were crooked when I asked them why the wall tile was so misaligned. 14. They refused to use concrete board on my shower walls, even though I asked them to. 15. They didn't measure ANYTHING, so one of my toilets sits so that the tank is 3 inches away from the wall & the toilet in the other bathroom is so close the lid scrapes on the wall. 16. They installed my on-demand water heater in my crawlspace on the ONLY wall that has foundation/structural problems. 17. Once I confronted them about their lack of licenses & permit and they were ordered to stay away from the house, they took the (locked) door of the crawlspace off to attempt to hide some of their mistakes before the inspectors came out. Lastly, they ARGUED with me about almost ALL of these issues on top of charging me for work that wasn't done. It wasn't until they had left that I was looking over the contract & realized it was written in such a way that THEY should have bought all tile, grout, bathtub, fixtures, paint, etc. That I had already purchased. I pretty much feel like I was abused & robbed. They told me the job would take 1-2 months. I was finally rid of them more than 8 months later. As I said, this is really just a quick list of the nightmare that this remodel actually was. Do NOT use these guys for anything!!!!!!!
Description of Work: I bought my house with a full bathroom & a half bathroom in the master bedroom. I decided I wanted to have 2 full bathrooms to make it more hospitable to guests. I hired an architect to draw up plans for this. The plan was to take everything out of the 'footprint' where the 1.5 baths were & rotating them 90 degrees so that instead of side by side with each having an outside window, the guest bathroom would be along the hallway & master bathroom would be along the outside wall of the house. The list of things they were supposed to do included everything from demo to framing to plumbing to wiring to tiling to painting. See below for my incomplete list of mistakes they managed to make in what should have been a fairly simple job. To add insult to injury, my father & I had thought about doing the job ourselves, but I hired someone (knowing it would cost me more money) so that the job would be done in a reasonable time, and be correctly inspected/licensed.
