In the beginning, Dennis was a true carpenter and professional tradesmen. He was amiable, he knew what he was doing and had pride in his work. I used Dennis for all my home repairs and improvements. I spent a considerable amount on his work. He had a key to my home and my workshop. Beginning in mid-May, I proposed a significant landscaping job and Dennis gladly accepted. I bought materials, rented equipment and paid Dennis by the hour. The first week, he he worked true to form. I wrote him a check for the time and materials at the end of every week. Over the next few weeks, he deteriorated mentally, repeatedly performed work incorrectly despite my instructions. He became argumentative, and began working half days and billing for full days. On a couple of instances when I pointed out something that he had not done, he told me to do it myself. In other cases he insisted that something other than what I asked for was good enough I asked several times if something was wrong, if he did not want to complete the job, what was the problem? This morning I walked the property and pointed out what was done versus what I had asked him to do (At his request, I had started writing things down making a copy and giving it to him). He became very argumentative. I told him to pack his tools, pick every thing up, give me a bill and leave. His helper started yelling, throwing around tools, and threatening me; I called the local police. The police arrived, he wrote a bill (overcharged), I paid and got my keys back. The police issued a trespass notice to his helper. I previously gave Dennis an A in all categories. It is true, all of his work up until this last effort was top notch. I can understand having a bad day or two, but this last experience wipes out all the good.
