At one point I had my battery replaced by them and a year later they said that they battery needed to be replaced. When I pointed out that I still have a warranty on it, they decided that it can wait. That's convenient (and shady).
There was a recall for faulty equipment on Sequoia but not my vehicle despite having the same equipment. So when my check engine light came on, I was pretty much on my own. Hoover Toyota was insistent that I pay $4,000 out-of-pocket for the repair, but Tuscaloosa Toyota told me that they would take care of it through the customer loyalty program because I had done every service on-time and at the dealership. A year later when the parts failed again, Tuscaloosa made it right while Hoover Toyota again told me to pay the $4,000 out-of-pocket.
Just after my warranty expired, a manufacturers flaw in the water pump led to a pinhole leak and I needed to replace the pump. Hoover Toyota told me that they should probably go ahead and replace the timing belt while they are in there so I agreed to the $1400 repair but told them to replace every tensioner and belt as well. About 200 miles later I noticed a terrible noise under my hood and realized that the serpentine belt tensioner was worn out. When I contacted Hoover Toyota they admitted that they didn't replace it despite my request to replace everything and they wouldn't even cut me a break on the labor to do it right (total quote was $500). So I bought the part online from a dealership in NC for $25 less and put it on myself, which cost roughly $75 to fix. Fast forward to them telling me on my most recent service that I need to replace all of these parts again based on mileage (they didn't bother to check my history).
They most recently recommended over $6000 in repairs for several things that were not needed. For example, they wanted to replace the power steering pump, rack & pinion, and all hoses because the pressure crimp hose fitting (factory part) showed evidence of a small leak.
Even though I set up an appointment by phone at a specific time, seems like that appointment is not needed. People can just do a walk-in and get ahead of me. After brining my car over to the service lane, no one greeted me. I had to wave at several people who were busy with their ipads to get their attention. This is surprising ... I've had other maintenance service done at other Toyota locations, but never had to wait despite having a preset appointment.
After giving them the key, I was told to wait in the waiting room, they said and quot;it will take 1 hour 15 minutesand quot;. The actual wait was much longer. I could see that they drove off my car and parked it in one part of the garage. But that was about it ... it was left there for quite some time. The whole thing took about 2 hours (remember, I had set an appointment and was promised a service time).
Anyway, after about 2 hours (most of which my car just lay parked), one service representative comes in and then was very aggressive towards pushing parts sales. His pushy sales techniques were quite annoying and he wouldn't let go till I agreed to get the cabin air filter replaced and AC refresh service performed for about 140.00. Looking back, I think both were totally unnecessary.
Then they told me to go pick up my car. I paid, and at that time, the sales representative seems to forget about me completely, leaving me in the cashier's office for 5-10 minutes. Then he came and gave me the key. I was not told where my car is. I had to go to the parking lot and find my car. As I entered the car, I noticed that they didn't bother to remove the paper covers they placed inside the car. Very surprising.
I was not told what services they performed on the Prius. My impression was that the 30k service would involve more than the usual oil change and tire rotation, but seems like they just did that. Or not???!! As I took my car to the highway, I turned on the AC, and suddenly the AC started to make a very loud noise. and quot;AC refreshand quot;???? Who knew it will turn my AC into a noisy vacuum cleaner type loud machine!
But the worst was not over. I suddenly started to hear noises from the car's transmission/wheels. The car was bumpy ... it felt like someone has misaligned the wheels. Was (and still is hard to drive straight). I'm pretty sure they did something during the tire rotation. The car, which was running smoothly till I went to Hoover toyota, has turned into a noisy and bumpy ride. When I drive it, it sounds like thump-thump-thump.
My suspicion is that they also didn't change the oil or just forgot to do so. Not sure how this is impacting the car's transmission/suspension.
I don't think I will go back. If they can take a perfectly ok car and turn into a bumpy ride, who knows what else they can do.
STAY AWAY from this place.
