Dr. Mike and Dr. Meagan are who you should use.  I've been going to them for several years since my dog was just a pup.  We got him from a shelter and when they requested we have him fixed immeadiately, Dr. Mike felt it was not advisable due to his size and weight.  He said that he would even write a formal letter stating that he would not do the surgery as it was dangerous to the dog but would make sure it was done when he was large enough for the surgery.  That obviously was impressive, the lengths he would go to do what he felt was right, but also you know when you talk to him that he is only going to treat your pet for what needs to be treated and nothing else.  He and Dr. Meagan have earned my trust and if I ever have a chance to refer them business I do it and am adamant to let them know that they will not find better service and competent veterinary medicine in Birmingham.

Dr. Mike and his daughter are running a truly exceptional clinic that anyone would feel comfortable using. There are no pushy sales pitches or long waits for a visit. In, top notch care and out. This place is truly a throwback and I have nothing but great stuff to say about both their ethics and their standards. I've brought my new puppy in for two visits now and I'm very comfortable with their knowledge and their honest love for animals. I will use HAH for all my pet needs for as long as I live in Birmingham.

My dogs and Dr. Mike and his staff get along very well. I went to a few other vets in the area and HAH was the best I found. Friendly, helpful, dedicated staff. Very flexible and little wait time. Cost is competitive with area vets.

I have known Dr. Kilgore for over twenty years, as both a friend and vet for my dogs. His wonderful care encompasses not only the animal/pet but also the person. The last visit was a prime example. I took the dogs in for possible heart murmurs. Each dog was given an exam and, although, a slight murmur was heard in each, Dr. Kilgore's advice was to wait and watch before doing anything - no ordering of expensive EKG testing or prescription medication which had been suggested by an out-of-state vet. He made sure that I understood what signs to be on the lookout for and took a baseline x-ray for future comparison. Though I moved to Nashville, TN last summer and have an "emergency" vet there, I still continue to take my dogs to Dr. Kilgore for routine visits because of the trust I have in him.

Homewood Animal Hospital is great. We've been to other vets in Homewood, and we prefer Dr. Mike for many reasons: Service is timely (little or no wait) and personal (don't feel like a small cog in a big, office machine). It's a much better value than some other, larger shops in town. We've seen how genuine, friendly and caring Dr. Mike and his staff can be. We wouldn't take our dog anywhere else.

Dr. Kilgore offered continuous contact and counseling regarding the risks and likely prognoses prior to the surgery, which was very important given the high costs involved. Although his facility off of West Oxmoor Road is not the largest or most modern, he is a very caring vet who maintains a very personal level of care with our pets.

One thing that is remarkable is that he does not sell drugs to pets. He says that it is cheaper to buy them through the Internet so he helps you with that.
