Rentals - Cars
I chose Enterprise specifically because they advertise that they will "pick you up." I made the reservation a week in advance. The morning of the rental (7 hours before rental time) I called to schedule pick up at my house. I was told to call back "30 minutes before I wanted to be picked up." They would not schedule the pick up during this initial call.) I called them 1 hour before, and was again told to "call back 30 minutes before I wanted to be picked up." I told them I felt 1 hour before was close enough and so pick up was scheduled for 4:30pm. I offered to give directions, but was told they didn't need them.
When they had not shown up by 5:00 I called, and was told someone was on the way. The driver called at 5:15 and said he was lost. The driver turned out to be the same individual who had told me on the phone (Enterprise's landline) at 5:00 that "the driver was on his way," indicating that he had been in two places simultaneously. The driver finally showed up and took me to the Enterprise office to do my paperwork. The store manager said they had been very busy that day. He obviously had put his "walk-in" customers ahead of my reserved time.
Enterprise's slogan should be "We'll pick you up when we're darn good and ready," or "We'll pick you up at our convenience."
I was on a schedule, and their inefficiency made me an hour late to my destination. The manager arranged to let me return the car empty as compensation. Their office is a 12 minute drive from my house, and there was no good reason for their tardiness.
