Gomer Tile and Renovations

We discussed what we wanted done in our bathroom. Demo old shower and tile the new shower, floor, and install new toilet. We picked out the tile and paid for all supplies prior to work being started. We had an agreed upon contract. The workers showed up the first day and demo began. From the second day until the last, we never knew what time they were going to show up (or if they would), or what workers. We had several. Mr Gomer would come in on different days and then redo tile that was already placed by his workers. This was done in several occasions and Mr Gomer finally finished the project. This project took about six weeks. Mr Gomer was more concerned about getting money on Fridays to pay his employees and his bills. On the last day of the project, he said he would be finished by 11am, it was finished sometime that evening. My fault was I paid him the remainder of the balance except $500. Needless to say it was not finished. Two workers came back on Monday to do a few things and clean up the mess. The bathroom was awful. Handprints on walls, dust and dried grout, just filthy. Me Gomer never came back to ensure any more grout needed to be added. We had to have a plumber come repair the toilet he installed because it kept leaking. It leaked on our new tile and into the carpet in our closet. Turned out the toilet flange was not even with the new floor. It was still at the level of the old floor. After this experience, I recommend that everything you want done be in the contract, including cleaning. Do NOT give into paying for services not completed, regardless how much he says he has to make payroll and pay his bills. I learned my lesson.
