There was a company that could have installed a conditioner for $2,000 but I ended up going with Alaska Water Conditioning (AWC) because I felt they would be there for the long haul. AWC services the Mat-Su valley. Dana came to my house to test my water. He explained the system to me and my wife. He explained the nuances surrounding water treatment and why I was having problems with my city water. In my case not only was the city water high in mineral content but because I have an on-demand water heater the problem was compounded. He let me know what would happen if I didn't get a system in place, which jived with what I had learned from my independent research. When I went back to him later about the system his competitor offered, he acknowledge that it was a could system and one he also sold. While in his shop he had a mock up of the system and again explained how it worked. Again, I went with AWC because I could tell they cared about their customers and had pride in service. The other company wasn't even willing to come to my house. Frankly, I was surprised I was willing to pay $900 more for a conditioner, that is how much they impressed me. Like I said, I did get a double system which was essentially a $1,900 discount. AWC also, allowed me to put 1/2 down and pay interest free installments for the balance. The installer showed up on time, finished in about 40 minutes (they cleaned my on demand free) and cleaned up after themselves. AWC offered 3 yrs of annual service checks free and they are coming out in 30 days to check the system, test water and answer any questions I have. The price for the double tank system is a steal. If you are going for a single tank you will be about to find someone cheaper but a visit from AWC will probably convince you also to pay a couple hundred dollars more.
