"After much research it is clear that this reviewer has not had ANY contact with Weatherize Alaska. We have never visited, consulted, or worked at the address noted, and have had no contact with the reviewer named. Also note, the Aeroseal process uses only a few ounces of material to achieve remarkable air sealing results in force air ducting. Most duct seals achieve greater than 95% efficiency once sealed. Since the space age Aeroseal sealant only is deposited within the gaps, there is no possibility of material coming out and or needing to be "vacuumed up". It is also pertinent to mention that we are well known, statewide, for installing the highest of quality vapor barriers and we can assure you that if any damage was done to the home the homeowner would have notified us right away, and we would have corrected the issue. It is not realistic for actual clients to wait several years, then post an anonymous complaint on Angie's list. We appreciate your consideration!"

1. The spray in the walls is uneven. There are areas where there are barely two inches of foam, and many other areas that expanded past the studs. This happened especially in the corners where you really need the insulation to prevent air from leaking.
2. Every single bay required scraping of the foam back to allow us to put up sheetrock.
3. There are bays which upon going over them with the scraper have sounded hollow and with a little pressure revealed large pockets of air where the foam had not been sprayed correctly. The company we hired to finish the job explained that the urethane in the walls appeared to have been mixed at the incorrect ratio and did not bond or expand properly.
4. The baffles they installed in the eaves in anticipation of spraying in the attic were installed very poorly. We purchased more materials and redid them all ourselves, though we were still charged for the baffle work. We ultimately hired another company (Urethane Alaska) to finish the spraying in the attic and were very satisfied with their work.
Overall it just seemed like the workers had no idea what they were doing. We called Ryan to talk about our concerns. He sent back one person who spent less than 30 minutes scraping a few of the areas. We have since put in about 10+ hours of scraping, cleaning and re-applying foam to the missed areas (in addition to the baffle work we did). Subsequent conversations/phone calls to Ryan and his father (who works for the company) were unproductive and became progressively rude and unprofessional.
Do not use this company. We recommend finding another company; we have since gone with Urethane Alaska and are very happy with their service and work.
VAPOR BARRIER & AEROSEAL: Mikel and his assistant Taylor did the vapor barrier removal and new vapor barrier install work as well as the AEROSEAL work. They were both very polite, professional, and careful. The new vapor barrier was installed with good attention to detail to ensure it was secured well for the urethane sealing to be completed. Also, when they came back for the AEROSEAL, they were very careful and thorough to ensure no glue from the AEROSEAL got on to any item inside my house by covering everything in painter's plastic. They also went above and beyond by foam sealing areas in my family room where the recessed ceiling and ducting did not have complete drywall enclosing the duct work. They were great about cleaning up any mess associated with their tasks.
URETHANE FOAM SEALANT APPLICATION: Ernesto and his brother Elvis did the urethane foam insulation spraying. They did a FANTASTIC job! They were extremely professional, polite, respectful, and Ernesto's attention to detail was outstanding! He did the majority of the spraying and assisted his brother to make sure the spray job was even, thorough, and looked good. They worked hard and efficiently. The final result was a generous spraying of foam insulation with perfect sealing of all requested areas. These two young men did such a fantastic job I would highly recommend them to all my friends.
My husband had just gotten out of the hospital that week and they were extremely kind to us both.
AND, on post testing for my Energy Audit, my improvement was 30% !!
I own a small business like Ryan and when a customer has a concern or problem with our work, we take care of it. Going to fix this myself now.
"At the time of the original bid, the Homeowner informed us that the structure had significant drainage and flooding issues in the crawlspace. He was notified, at that time, that the drainage issues would need to be resolved prior to any Insulation/Vapor Retarder installations. The Homeowner was also notified that Vapor Retarders are only meant to inhibit/stop the transmission of water "Vapor" and in a flooding event would provide no protection against the flow of bulk water. The Homeowner acknowledged these points and said the drainage work would be completed prior to our installation. When our crew arrived (as scheduled), it was noted that NO drainage or mitigation work had completed prior to our arrival. The homeowner was again informed that our service would not eliminate or even reduce the drainage problems that persisted at the residence. Again, the homeowner acknowledged he needed to address the drainage problems. Several months passed, no drainage work was done and the house experienced another flood. Weatherize Alaska was called out to repair subsequent flood damage to the work we performed. The repairs were conducted free of charge, and again the homeowner was notified that insulation and vapor retarders are not a resolution to sub-grade drainage issues. Another year passes, the homeowner calls us again with the same flooding problems. When asked, we were informed that no drainage work had been performed since our last visit and the water problem still persists. At this point, Weatherize Alaska informed the Homeowner that we would be happy to reseal his vapor retarder free of charge (despite being over 6 months beyond his warranty) but only after the required drainage work was performed on the property. To date, Weatherize Alaska has not been contacted or notified of any drainage work being performed onsite. We wish this homeowner the very best in their situation, and hope they have installed the appropriate drainage for the structure."
Scheduling the free estimate with and quot;Command Centraland quot; Jennifer was quick and easy.
Owner Ryan gave an informed estimate and was willing to answer all my questions.
Though it took more than a month to get on the work schedule, the crew was on time and worked non-stop. The crew, lead by Mike, was friendly and cooperative. They answered questions and gave explanations when asked, plus responded to reasonable requests.
Their duct sealing job reduced my forced air duct leakage by 96%, resulting in 39% heating capacity improvement. Their work reduced my home air leakage by over 30%!
Job well done Weatherize Alaska.
Very professional outfit and I would recommend them for any insulation install.
They arrived early in the morning, went to work and finished the job in just a few hours. We
fully expect no ice dams to form as they have in the past because it worked perfectly on the section of the house worked on previously.I did not get the post work rebate evaluation done until last week. It was a big success. I went from a 2* to a 4* (4 steps up so a significant rebate anticipated) based entirely on this insulation work and installation of a closed combustion boiler and water heater. The air tightness of the house improved right up to the point where I would have to install mechanical ventilation if it were any tighter.
The house is warmer. The room with the cantilever upstairs is now the warmest room in the house. The Enstar bill has gone down quite a bit. I have level pay billing so I haven't evened out yet to what the difference really will be. I had 3 months last summer with a zero bill because of the credit.
Just so everyone who reads this can understand the importance of this little detail: When hanging sheetrock on ceiling joists, you screw into each joist. If something is protruding past the joists, the sheetrock cannot hang properly, and consequently you have to cut it back. If you're hiring a contractor to hang the sheetrock, he is not going to cut it back for free. Needless to say, I called them up, and Ryan came out the next day to fix their mistakes. Holy Cow! He didn't cut it back either! He obviously worked on some areas, but there are some large areas that still have to be hacked back! I had left him a straight-edge to drag across the joists (so, obviously, if the straight-edge hits foam, it's sticking out too far and needs to be cut out).
I don't know if I would recommend them in the future. I guess if a company tells me they are going to perform a service and gives me a $3000 bid for 1 day service, I would want them to finish every task they had promised. There are a lot of other companies in Anchorage that perform these same services, and at this point I will probably give those guys a chance to earn my money before going with Weatherize Alaska again.
Sorry Guys, but I have to grade your services at a and quot;Cand quot; not great, but not terrible. For the amount charged I would have expected the job to have been properly completed.
professional and personable. I liked that the work was completed in two days,
it was not drawn out, and they gave complete answers to numerous questions.
They were neat and cleaned up after their work. Bottom line – The house is now cozy and comfortable.
