This was my first time here.  I have been looking for a stylist for quite some time that can give me a hair cut that fits me.    I am a 50ish male with thinning fine hair.   I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance, the front desk greet was nothing special.  The stylist shared a room down stairs all the way in the back with another who was doing her own hair for the first half of my cut.   I frequently give stylists free reign to apply their art as they see fit.  All I can say,  is that this Stylist here need some more schooling.  Your hair gets cut but don't expect anything special here.

I've been looking for someone new to cut my hair. I met with a woman who goes by and quot;Cand quot; (Cricket) and she was excellent. I have challenging hair (thin and fine) and she gave me a great haircut and helpful suggestions. She took her time and made me feel like I received her full attention. I will definitely go back.

Brian is wonderful. He worked me in on my birthday, and his haircut is the best I've ever had in Anchorage. I often have great haircuts in New York, San Francisco, Portland, Chicago -- and Brian stacks up well against the best. He is technically excellent, but he also had a great eye for bone structure and how the cut is going to look on you. He is also warm and friendly -- and he cares about your hair. Great experience.

I had a cut and highlights by Claire. She is super sweet and does a great job with color. I'm just not a fan of how she cuts my hair. The price is a bit high. It was $210 before tip. I would expect to leave with a perfect cut after spending so much. I'm going to try other places that were recommended to me rather than go back.

This was another wonderful experience at Salon Ivy. The first experience I had was last spring when I desperately needed something done with my hair for a wedding. Brian was able to order the extensions and put them in for me in a week and a half. The extensions were awesome! I've had other types of extensions done at several other places, these were by far the best! I kept them in for close to a year and are getting them redone because of the amount of growth. My schedule is very busy and Brian has always been able to accommodate and work around the times I could come in. I so glad I found Salon Ivy! I'm always impressed and pleased whether it's color, cut or extensions. If you want great hair and great service, go to Salon Ivy! Brian is the best!

I never write reviews, but I am making an exception. Melissa Sanborn at Salon Ivy is great! She is amazingly talented. I moved here from Texas over 5 years ago. I have lost track of how many salons I've tried. Sometimes the cut was good one time and not the next. Sometimes it was awful from the first attempt. I thought there was something wrong with my hair -- that it wasn't adjusting well to the climate change. Then I found Melissa. I've been going to her for about 6 months now. No bad hair days! She gets it right every time. She is very talented. I highly recommend her.

I desperately needed restorative treatment and a great cut for my hair. It was dry and the cut was so bad I had to wear a ponytail most of the time. I searched reviews and Yelp for a salon in walking distance of downtown Anchorage. Salon Ivy popped up and in looking at the past reviews I decided to visit the salon and see for myself what it was like. Walking into the house off of 6th was warm cozy and inviting. Davey started to set me up for an appointment and Brain walks out from his room, yes no fish bowl salon here, and looks at my hair. He told me exactly what was wrong with the cut for my type of hair and how he would correct the dryness. He went back to his client after assuring me it could be fixed. December 5th came along and I was in the chair. He took pictures of my hair before and after and what a difference. All the stylists were warm and friendly and I would feel confident with any of them. Brian said it will take 6 months to get my hair back in shape however, I notice the difference all ready. Super easy to style, no curling iron or flat iron or curlers needed. I absolutely give this salon the highest recommendation!

I found Brian at Salon Ivy on Angie's List after I was having another bad hair day. Because my brown hair tends go warm (red/orange) with most color treatments, my prior stylist kept coloring with darker and darker color. By the time I found Brian, I looked simply awful. Brian looked at my hair and described all the events that had occurred to it. His know-how on the chemistry of color played into his corrective formulas. He set my appointments up into three separate days one week apart. Each week he added another dimension to the service and style. My old color was nearly black and I wanted to go light with highlights. (Like I was when I got to Anchorage) I have already been transformed and feel good. An artist, such as Brian, will enhance what you already have and help you look radiant!
The paragraph above was written when I first began to go to Salon Ivy in August 2013. Now, it is October 2013 and I still LOVE my hair. It is a work in progress, all my new growth is not turning warm (red/orange) and most of all I LOVE being pampered at Salon Ivy.
On another note, I must tell you about his talented assistant ?Joanna. (NOT a girlfriend as one reviewer stated) I asked both of them about how their system works. The service is totally collaborative. If it wasn't for her - first, I would never be able to get an appointment with Brian - and second, his prices would go up if he was only seeing one client at a time - - What an ingenious idea to spread yourself out in such a way as you are able to have several clients being worked on at once. Because of his assistant, Brian can concentrate on the formulas, techniques and styles - while his assistant gets clients ready for him and works along side him - following Brian's plan of action.

I've been to see Brian twice for highlights with haircut. First of all, let me say he bends over backwards to accommodate appointments and to fit folks in. I went to him based on reviews I had read. My first experience in June was okay . He asked questions about what I wanted and seemed responsive. It was disconcerting to have his girlfriend hanging around for 20-30 minutes during the first appt. She just stood there and watched everything he did. He gave me a sample of a product to try at the end of the appointment and I left thinking I would probably be back. Overall for the first appointment, he did a good haircut , but the highlights he used left my hair darker than I had wanted and he had left these two really light highlights on each side of my face that did not blend with the rest of my hair. but at least he had blended all of my roots in with the toner. For the second appt, which he was kind enough to fit me in, I was his first appt of the day. He arrived a couple minutes after I did and started my appointment late due to having to open the shop. I asked him to fix the superlight highlights around my face that did not match my hair and that I didn't want my roots showing. For the first half of the appt, he was constantly watching his phone and texting with his girlfriend as they had a fight the night before. He kept texting and eventually ended up talking on the phone while he was doing my highlights. Again, he gave me a sample of product to try when I was checking out. Overall, he did fix the light areas that didn't blend as I requested but as a whole my hair was still darker than I wanted and he didn't use toner to blend in the highlights so I walked out with the same roots showing that I went in with. The cut was fine. I think when he's focused he probably does a good job based on the reviews I've read but he's charging top $$$ and not providing the service to justify it. I don't think I will be back but wish him luck and hope things settle down.

I moved to Alaska from Arizona and had extensions. I was worried about the level of expertise I would find here in AK. I was pleasantly surprised and RELIEVED to have found Brian (Owner of Salon Ivy in Anchorage). He was extremely professional and honest. He turned a disaster into a dream and I would highly recommend him to any family member or friend.

I was very impressed with the results and felt like I hit the jackpot! She used some kind of conditioner that really fixed my out-of-condition hair. I only graded down on the price because I feel all the salons in Anchorage are overpriced compared to the lower states. But if you have to pay this much, my experience was certainly worth it; a very pleasant appointment with terrific results!

I've been a client at Salon Ivy for just under a year. I was looking for a place to fix the horrible color and cut I'd received from other salons in Anchorage. The owner smiled as he looked at my hair, then started telling me exactly what other stylists had done to make a wretched mess of my hair. I just kept nodding because everything he said I'd watched done to my hair. It was a little surreal . . . like hair voodoo. But he fixed the uneven cut and grow out and then gave it style and corrected the color insanity that frustrated me most. I walked out with a bouncy, shiny style that was modern and glamorous. I've referred friends and family to Salon Ivy because I've never had hair that looks this good - and it's been styled by some of the best in Boston, Miami and San Francisco.

I am picky about my hair and the stylist was patient with me until I paid. I was quoted $160 for the owner and got another stylist instead. When I went up to pay I was told the appt was $180. I thought she was patient until I had to pay. Charging me more than the owner of the salon? Won't go back.
