Veterinarians, Animal Burial/Cremation,

About us

------OPEN 24 HOURS------ Pet Emergency Treatment is a walk-in clinic for animals that serves both the Anchorage bowl and Alaskan “bush” communities. Pet Emergency Treatment is OPEN 24 HOURS to provide emergency and critical care. It is the intention of the service to specialize predominantly in the emergency treatment of sick and injured animals. We work closely with your pet’s regular veterinarian and send our findings to them for follow up care. For this reason we don’t perform spays/neuters or dental work. Pet Emergency Treatment service was established in 1978 by local veterinarians and is still supported by the veterinarians in Anchorage and the surrounding areas (e.g., Eagle River, Seward, Kenai). Pet Emergency Treatment is designed and dedicated to providing the best possible emergency medical and surgical services for your pet when your regular veterinarian is not available. We moved to a state of the art facility in 2006 to facilitate this goal. And, as of 2011, we have upgraded to a digital x-ray unit on site that allows us to burn to CD! With experienced veterinarians to interpret the x-rays, we can save precious moments and make the difference between life and death in an emergency. Pet Emergency Treatment also has a migratory bird permit which allows us to temporarily treat migratory birds; which includes eagles, owls, and other wild birds. We then turn them over to the Bird Treatment and Learning Center for their future needs. In 2007 the staff at Pet Emergency Treatment Inc. successfully completed a rigorous, voluntary accreditation process through the American Animal Hospital Association. This process required that the hospital meet specific, nationally recognized standards in various aspects of veterinary medicine. These included surgery, emergency medicine, client service, medical records, pain management, patient care, diagnostic imaging, and continuing education. This accreditation is only shared with about 13% of veterinary hospitals across the country and we are proud to be one of them. P.E.T. received an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau® Pet Emergency Treatment was featured on Animal Planet in ‘Clinically Wild: Alaska’ and is proud to lend our support to our local community efforts as well, including the Iditarod, the Friends of Pets Dog Jog, Anchorage Chamber Citywide (Street) Cleanup, wild bird rescue through Bird Treatment and Learning Center, and through veterinary support at dog shows around Alaska. We offer tours of our clinic for individuals on request and for groups by appointment. Bring your pet and if you’d like we’ll even record a video of your tour for friends to see on Facebook!

AVOID THIS ANIMAL HOSPITAL AT ALL COST! While the quality of care is acceptable, their business practices are appalling. While your beloved pet is in their care, be prepared for calls in the middle of the night attempting to extort excessive fees and/or demands that you pick up your pet in the middle of the night. This animal hospital has no internal communication and does not follow through with treatment plans agreed to by their veterinary doctors. Rather than investigating actual patient visit details when administrative errors are made, they will lie about documentation and demand additional payment for unnecessary treatment while refusing to carry out the treatment plan agreed upon by the staff and client. They are the sleaziest business I have ever encountered. Our city is lucky to have many reputable veterinary clinics from which to choose, but be clear, Pet Emergency is NOT one of them. Save yourself heartache and save your pet unnecessary suffering by avoiding this Animal Hospital.

I've taken my 3 dogs to Pet ER and can highly recommend both vets and staff for their expertise and compassion.

1. Watch your pocket book. 2. I brought in a 10 year old cat with heart disease and hypothyroidism at 5:00 a.m. on a day in November in 2012. My cat was struggling to breathe and near convulsions. I left her at the clinic that morning; I visited the cat 3 times that day. On my visits, she was barely responding to treatment: all vital signs were down, she was on oxygen, she was not eating - there was dried up canned food in her bowl; her fur was greasy, she was wasting away. The next morning, 24 hours later and $1200 later (I wasn't counting at the time) I went in to put her down. I received a negative response to my decision and was told, "If we can just do more tests". My emotions let it happen. I kept her in for one more day (I got a phone call from the vet that evening saying my cat was doing better [what's better!!]. The next day I went in and saw a pathetically suffering and dying animal. I opend the oxygen cage and demaned that someone put her down immediately. She was taken to a table right outside the oxygen cage, with all the hussle and bussel of caged dogs yelping across from the table and cats peroidically making their cat sounds in other cages down the row - timing bells were going off, and incoming noise was coming in through the intercom system; a technician came over and said he would put her down. I covered her little ears to try and deaden the noise. It was heart wrenching. And it just so happens the entire cost was the exact amount I was told I had to put down the morning I first brought her in - an amount "just in case of emergency". The cost was $2,400.00 - oh, I had to pay extra for the euthansia. It took me almost a year to write this. I am not giving this clinic because my cat died, I think anyone that has read this knows why. Thank you Angie for reminding me to tell my story.

Their price is a little pricey, since it is an emergency clinic. But their overall services is okay.

Outstanding. This was a very emotional time for us. Our dog (Newfoundland) passed away near midnight and given their 24 hour service Pet Emergency Treatment was the only facility we could find open in Anchorage.

Staff was extremely helpful, understanding, and compassionate. Cremation was accomplished as described and follow-up was professional. From past experience in the lower 48 we expected ashes in plastic jug...we were surprised when they handed her ashes to us in a pretty tin along with a paw print casting. We appreciated these extra touches.

We have only accolades and no complaints.

From when i walked in the door they were able to tell me how much an exam would cost me and the form to fill out then got me into a room in about 5 min and a dr in another 5. the dr listened to what was going on and immediately knew what was going on and conferred with another dr before giving me options and explained how if it were any other animal they'd be hooked to iv's and be in intensive care but being its a mouse and can't do that the best medicine can do today is antibiotics but it isn't usually successful and the animal is suffering during this time and so it save me heart ache and probably a lot of money and save my mouse pain. they were very heartful and even took a bit off being i am a college student and in one visit lost my best friend. i don't know if that's a common practice but i will definitely be going back they do all sorts of animals too and calling them they can explain how they can help your animal like they did with my mouse

The people at this pet emergency showed compassion, understanding during a very difficult time in my life.. I couldn't stay home with my very sick dog and returned to pet emergency during the middle of the night and they understood why I had to come back and they let me walk him and spend time with him before we returned home for the second time that night.. When we were told that we had to leave him for the night because of and IV in his leg that they let us see him before we left as they knew we were very concerned about him just like they were concerned about him being so ill...
