There's no way I can in good faith recommend North Coast Countertops. I suggest taking your business elsewhere. I had a kitchen remodel that required new countertops and used Home Depot. North Coast is contracted with Home Depot to do the work, and the process was fairly easy -- right up until there was a problem. There is a hole in the side of a cabinet erroneously cut out by the install crew. When I talked to Terry, the owner, he refused to accept responsibility for the mistake. He blamed it on the cabinet installer and stated North Coast doesn't even have the right tool to make such a cut. Considering the cut is exactly the same shape as the countertop itself and it wasn't there prior to install, I find that hard to believe. Despite phone calls and emails, I get no response from Terry and no admission of wrongdoing. Rather than being empathetic, Terry is more interested in not having to shell out $50 to fix a mistake for which his company is responsible. Thankfully, the panel can be fixed, but why deal with bad customer service? Is this the experience you want? Stay away. Use Alaska Countertops instead.
Response from North Coast Countertops
"This is from our installer that was on the job site: Normally I don't comment on things like this but this review is totally bogus. I was the installer on this particular job and I pointed out to the customer during the install of the countertops this flaw in the cabinet panel. I told him that the cabinet installer routed the panel directly to the 2x4 frame behind it causing an exposed notch. Normally the cabinet installer would have filled the hole behind the panel with 2x4 blocking before routing the panel but if memory serves the same sort of situation happened in this customers main kitchen upstairs. The difference between the kitchen downstairs vs the kitchen upstairs is that the countertop upstairs has a dog ear that wraps around the panel about 1.5" where they meet covering the notch in the panel. So I imagine that the cabinet installer assumed the countertops would be fabricated with the same feature downstairs as upstairs but, obviously it did not. To address the description of the notch as "exactly the same shape as the countertop" that doesn't make any sense. If the notch was exactly the same as the countertop the countertop would either cover the notch or fit perfectly inside of said notch. The notch is actually the exact same shape as the 2x4 frame behind it. All of that being said it stands to reason that I in fact did not notch the panel. Now I explained all of this very clearly to the customer at some length and told him it could be fixed but that it would be the cabinet installers obligation to do so. Now I empathize with all homeowners going through renovations because there is always a setback and they are always very frustrating. Things like this are bound to happen during renovation, it's just the way it goes. Maybe before writing a review in the middle of a work day bashing a company and its employees, just take a second to really think about how the people you are accusing of any misdeed are seasoned professionals that do this job every day and that when these pros tell you something they are not just making it all up. Again I sympathize with this customers situation but slandering me and my work on the internet without any proof or reasonable logic is a really unbecoming way to express any dissatisfaction. Now I would be remiss if I just sat here refuting everything the customer had to say without a solution. If I was in his shoes I would get in contact with the cabinet installer and send pictures to show what is wrong. Actually now that I think about it my boss Terry offered to call and try to resolve the situation with the cabinet installer directly. That was actually really low of the customer to say that Terry was only interested in saving fifty dollars since initially Terry was going to pay to repair the panel until he realized that I didn't rout it at all. In my experience Terry has been one of the most professional and attentive businessmen I have ever had the pleasure of working for. To sum it all up this review isn't accurate at all."
