Kand W started out feeling like a great choice, the were attentive and thoughtful during the estimating and design phase and had many of the high quality products I liked. So, although their bid was highest of all the others (by far), I was assured they could meet my schedule to complete my flooring job by mid-May (and this was very important to me). Unfortunately, once they got in, it seemed like everything they installed had something go wrong or they damaged something else in my home. They did step up to the plate and try to make it right by fixing it but in the end the job wasn't finished until mid-July. A 3 week job turned into a 3 month job!

The wood flooring was done to my satisfaction. However, the flooring I chose in one room was a slate tile and it was installed in a manner that left large unevenness between tiles. Understanding slate is not exactly even like ceramic tile, some variation is expected but this was extreme to the point of having 1/4and quot; and higher trip hazards everywhere and full side/edges of the tile above the one next to it. I tried to communicate this as it was going in, but no change was made before grouting. They and quot;fixedand quot; it by chipping off the corners of the slate leaving it with a damaged appearance. There were several areas of carpet that were not secured down and although they came back to fix it, it is now already coming up again!

Overall the communication between the two and quot;project managersand quot; I had was horrible. I would call one and the other would respond several days later and my message would get only partially communicated to the other. By the time they responded, often it was mis-communicated and too late such that the subcontractor had already completed the work I had concerns about. I was told things during the estimation phase of work, that led me to believe they were doing certain things differently/higher quality than would be typical, and that was part of the reason for higher cost, and then in the end they did the typical approach anyway.

One redeeming factor is that they always admitted to their screw ups each time and tried to rectify it. When they damaged my countertop laminate, they replaced it. Although, if I had had more time I would have chosen something different--something that better matched my new dand eacute;cor. I was given 3 choices and a couple days to make a decision on it. It is a no worse than the one I had, though.

All in all, in the end I think the work done in my home was an overall improvement and I really like the styles, materials, colors, and design. I will get used to the damaged appearance of the slate in time. My biggest disappointment is that I feel like I was ripped off. I thought I was paying a higher price than the competition in exchange for higher quality work that would meet my schedule and I wouldn't have to deal with the headaches of managing multiple subcontractors. I didn't get that at all.

Kand W does good and quality work...some problems with workers accessing an owner-occupied residence and driveway damage...one of the owners,Anthony Kaercher,worked with me on the problems and we reached resolution.....they seem to be a quality and local business which is what I was after

Excellent!!! A designer and a contractor came to the house and took measurements and photos and we told them what we were looking for' they gave us some suggestions and we made an appointment to meet with the same people at K and W and we picked colors and styles and after two more visits we picked a design and the cabinets at a price we could live with. We were supplied with a 3d rendering of how our kitchen would appear when the job was finished.The job started at the appointed time and was finished within three days of the scheduled date. A rep for K and W came by every day to make sure everything was going according to plan.

Working with the designer was fine. She was professional and very nice. Our job was fairly small so we started out working with one designer but then we're passed onto the one that did our design. We're not sure if this was done intentionally since our job was a small one or not. We didn't like this switch at first but it worked out okay. We picked out backsplash tile and ordered the tile. We were expecting the tile in in two weeks. We didn't get a call telling us the tile was in so I followed up with our designer. Once the tile gets ordered, then a different person is supposed to call to let you know the product is in and to schedule the installation. This part of our project was frustrating as they didn't call us and scheduling was delayed. They said the and quot;schedulerand quot; was on vacation. It took about 4 weeks from the time we ordered the tile until we had the call to schedule the installation. With this said, the installers (Paul and Jeremy) were very nice and did great work. They were prompt and professional. After the installation, I would have liked to have gotten a call from our designer to ask how the installation went and to ask how we liked the tile. This did not happen and this is one thing Kand W needs to change. They need to follow-up with their customers! Once our tile was ordered, we didn't get any follow-up from the designer. We also worked with the designer to order moulding pieces for the bottom of our existing kitchen cabinets. These pieces conceal the under cabinet light fixtures and give the cabinets a finished look. This process went smoother in that the items were ordered, they came in in just a few weeks and the job was scheduled without lots of follow-up on my part. The installation went fine and the installer was prompt and professional. We didn't get a follow-up call from the designer on this job either. Lastly, we feel their prices are high, but are new to Alaska from New Jersey. We found that costs of most items are much higher in AK so we're not sure if this just Alaska or If Kand W is a bit pricier.

They are very creative, professional, and very reasonable on price as well. I would never have anyone else do work on my house in the categories that they do work in. I have a showroom house and am very pleased with the work that they have done.

We are very pleased with the responsiveness of both the designer and superintendent. The selection process with the designer for cabinets, countetops, back splash, flooring and lay out of the kitchen have been very good. The designer is informed about the varous products that we are selecting for our new kitchen.

This by far has been the most pleasurable experience involving a contractor working on a fairly major construction project. Kand W Interiors is truly a full service company who I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a contractor. They will treat you fairly and professionally and those actions alone indicates a quality company that intends to stay in business for the long run. Kand W provided highly detailed quotes along with providing a calendar of events showing what aspect of the job was to be started and completed on a daily basis.

We felt the initial visits regarding selections for our counter top and flooring were very informative and supportive to our needs and thoughts. The visit fromm the staff went very well too, but key information regarding the counter top was inaccurate, which was brought to light by the installer during the install. The counter top installed was not what we requested. They offered to replace the newly installed counter top with the bullnose type we chose, which was appreciated, but we felt going through this process again regarding time off work and the reinstall process was just too much to manage and we weren’t prepared to do this twice. They did reimburse us for the difference in cost between the bullnose and 90 degree. The flooring was also discussed with their staff on their visit to our home and later by phone, but again important information was not given to the installer. When the installer arrived on site he advised that he was not informed that he was to install the floor in a diamond pattern in all areas. The installer also stated on several occasions it had been some time since he last installed a pattern of this type. This too gave us the impression the planning stages of this project were overlooked or never documented. Staff were very professional and courteous, but the information provided was not always accurate or conveyed to the installers. Counter top installer, very professional, courteous, performed the install on time, quality of work seems excellent, very clean when he left. Flooring installer, very professional, courteous, quality of work seems excellent. His time management was never accurate per times he stated he would arrive, a big negative. Install took much longer since he was not provided the correct information regarding the install and the fact that he had not performed the diamond install for some unspecified amount of time. Did not clean as well. Grouting: Installers very professional, courteous, and did a great job of cleaning. When the gentlemen arrived to install the flat bar, he was not informed that we requested gold colored flat bar, he only had silver of which we later replaced. It’s very concerning to us that we followed thier defined process of payment and they were paid on time as requested, yet when it came time to pay us the difference regarding the counter top, we were informed they would be considering the amount and it would take a few days. The business came highly recommend by a co-worker, yet with all the above negative issues in mind for our future projects this summer and beyond, we will not be considering thier business for any further projects.
