I live in a little "dip" that GCI refuses to recognize. People in this neighborhood have problems with dropped calls with their GCI cell phones. This area is where the Anchorage Senior Center is located. In my building people have to go outside to use their phones, when friends come to my apartment and they have to answer their phone they run to my window and lean towards it hoping they will be able to receive the call.
Because of all of all of complaints GCI has had technicians out here to "fix" the problem. I showed up one time when technicians were on site wandering around and told the technicians that this was an ongoing problem that had been going on for a long time and they were relieved to learn it wasn't something they were missing. The only fix would be a tower to cover this area. This has been going on for as long as I have lived here (4 years). Where I live there are many elderly people who really don't know how to stand up for themselves so they just take what they can get and live with inferior service.
My neighbor across the street actually switched from GCI to ACS because of this very issue and then GCI bought out the cell phone division of ACS. My neighbor was very concerned and called ACS who assured her that she would get the same cell service she had come to expect from ACS. That was a lie. As soon as GCI acquired ACS this neighbor began having the same problems of frequent (we are talking almost every time she uses her phone) dropped calls.
She had to fight long and hard to get GCI to agree to let her out of her contract. She pointed out that she has an asthmatic son and if she was dialing 911 and her phone wouldn't work there would be h*** to pay. Shame on GCI for continuing to sell cell phone service to people who live in an area where they have such poor cell phone coverage.

I have had GCI Voice Mail for probably 5 years, part of a package and as a backup to our answering machine since it was part of a package. It quit working. Setting it up took a lot of effort on their part and ours. We have a non digital phone line because we lose power. If you don't have digital service voice mail is provided via ACS only their techs don't know that. Somehow my password for voicemail stopped working a few weeks ago. Now they say that I don't have voice mail. I worked with four techs today in five separate phone calls. I give up. I refuse to give them any more money a month. Land line has static, TV is expensive, Internet service is expensive, download and upload speeds unreliable. Unfortunately only game in town.

When I called, I was told by the rep that it was a neighborhood thing, and just to "wait it out". They were very empathetic and kind. I called again a few hours later and was told that it was statewide? I couldn't believe that but I swear that's what they told me. I should have asked to speak with someone else but didn't. Anyway, awhile later I called again and was told by yet someone else that it wasn't either of the previous things but was probably my modem and we went though a few testing steps together but nothing helped. This was a Saturday evening and I was told that the soonest a tech could arrive was on Monday. This was all in the evening so I finally gave up and went to bed. The next morning, Sunday my computer was working normally and I called to cancel the tech for Monday and to tell someone what I had been told the night before. The above is very unusual for them and I have been very happily with them for several years, at least 5-6.

The only good experience I have had with GCI is the second young man who arrived to install service. This is a new buidling and the 3-plex had to be wired, so he did work in the crawl space and wired the whole place. He was polite and worked hard and got the service going. Prior to that GCI made an appointment to do this on Saturday when the buidling maintenance was not available to allow the work to be completed. So the guy in the truck was fine.
The people on the phone may or may not be polite but they seldom know what they are doing and will tell you anything to just get you off the phone.
The prices are a greedy bloodsucking ripoff. When they sold me a refurbished $200 phone without telling me it was non-returnable when I went back with problems three days later I switched my cell phone back to ATT and have had good service with no problems.
The Cable is over priced, as is the internet. My only choice now is to pay the $43 increase or shut up and have the cable taken out completely and go with Netflix. And I may very well do that.
GCI is the only game in town. They know it. They take advantage of it. And as another review put it, " I HATE THEM."

I hate them. We normally deal with their Eagle river office because it is a local one. They are very expensive. They con you into the two-year contract thing. I have never been happy with them. They tried to change but then you will have to change your email address to do that. Then we would have to send everybody our new email address, so we didn’t bother. When it was up, we were going to change but we decided not to because it is a pain to change. We do our banking and all that so that wouldn't be good. Too many things would change. They are not completely horrible; they are average.

I do not like them because of the quality of service and the price. I constantly feel like I am being cheated. I would switch in a heartbeat if I could but nobody else provides those services. I go in to the office just to pay a bill and they are rude. I have to stand in line to pay the bill and they are just rude.
