I recieved a groupon for my birthday for Car Toyz to install a remote starter on my 2003 Xterra. When I called the end of Sep to make an appointment, I had a hard time getting anyone to answer the phone. After four calls, I did get an answer and the individual was not the most professional. As soon as he heard that I had a groupon for the car starter, he immediately told me that it would cost an additional $100 for an additional box that would be needed for the install. He explained that it was necessary because there was a chip in my car key. I explained that I had already had the key tested, and that particular model did not have a chip. The individual on the phone argued with me and kept insisting that all Xterra keys had chips. He then said "hold on" and put me on hold. I was on hold for a bit. When he came back on the phone, he merely said to me, "the earliest date I have is the last week of Oct.) I told him that this was fine. We set up the appointment and I hung up. I did not have a good feeling about this place at this point.
Two days before I was to have my car starter installed, a woman from Car Toyz contacted me and asked if I could move my appointment back two or three days. I said that I could. She said that they were very behind. When the date came, and I went to drop off my vehicle, I walked into the establishment, was not greeted, and when I finally did get someone to acknowledge me, he merely said "are you dropping off, or picking up?" I told him that I had an appointment to have a remote starter installed. He put some paperwork down in front of me and went on helping another customer. When he finally got back to me, he told me that there would be a $100 additional fee to install the car starter. I told him that this was not on the fine print of the groupon and I wanted to know why I needed to pay more money. He said "hold on" and he walked back into the shop. A few minutes later, another man came out, said "let's go look at your car." When we got out to the car, he said, with this model, we need to install a box that will override your security feature. It is $100." At this point, I was tired of arguing the fact with the man, and since this was a gift, I didn't want to turn it back in. We went back into the shop. The man at the counter, told me that the groupon only got me the basic remote starter, which wasn't that good, and he tried to sell me other remote starters that cost an additional $100 to $200. Now I just felt like I was being suckered. I told him to install the basic remote start. He said "fine" and took my keys
I now need to go back and have them look at it, because everytime I put the key in to deactivate the remote start, my starter is engaged, and this will eventually tear up my starter.
I truly feel as if Car Toyz was not looking out for my best interest, they were only in this for the money. I would not recommend them to anyone. I felt as if they thought that I should have spent hundreds more in their shop, and because I didn't, they didn't feel I was worthy of good service.
