All of the paperwork we received once we scheduled the move was very professional and provided an outline of all the services they would provide and at what cost. Movers were on schedule, clean and the most professional crew we have had in our 9 moves. Delivery took place as scheduled and the movers on the NJ side were just as awesome as Alison's movers in Anchorage. Not one item received a nick or a scrape!
They gave me a call about the insurance I had purchased. They mentioned that the insurance won't be valid if the shipment arrives and the driver leaves before any damages were discovered. At the time they called, the shipment hadn't left yet. I thought it was a strange thing. So, the insurance were removed as they said that it won't help much. So, I thought they were trying to save me money by not using insurance.
I was thinking that the shipment would be best to put into a storage unit rather than the residence, which was a mile away. They had to charge me $150 for the destination address change, even though the storage place would be easier to unload and was closer than at the original destination. I thought it was a bit high, but it was the transporting company end that charges that amount they said.
The driver came by at the storage place and dropped the pallets off. Much of the boxes were smashed, but the initial inspection did not show damage, excpet one of the seats. I called Allison's Relocations, they suggested that I go get quotes for the repair. I found one that is more reasonable at around $400 after driving around between two counties and several towns. However, their standard insurance covered only $40 of it as it was calculated by weight. I had to accept the small sum as the purchased insurance was cancelled by them and there no other option readily available for resolution.
I was out around $400 needed for the repair. They apologize for the damages, but it would be best if they could repair the seat entirely.
I unpacked the rest of the boxes and found damages on two items, a crack on the plastic turntable cover and broken crystal figurines. However, the seat was more costly to repair than the others.
I would re-consider Allison's Relocation twice unless they are the last resort. I would like to be clear about the insurance, especially when they had my stuff afterwards when they cancelled it and not before when I purchased the extra protection. I had also would like not to have the boxes smashed neither as I later found the damaged items packed well inside the boxes.
If we ever move back to Alaska we will call Alison's Relocations and ask them to handle everything.
