I am having work done by Alaska Counter tops again for my house that is going on the market, as well as my new home in Anchorage. I recommend them highly.
"[member name removed], After looking at the pictures you sent of the counter top, with the location of the damage in relation to the sink, it was obvious it was water damage. (unfortunately tenants never take care of things as if they were their own) You were asking for a solution, and the only satisfactory thing we could come up with was a replacement. Had the damage been in a different location, it may have been possible to attempt a repair. However, we did not want to charge you for an attempted repair, and you not be happy with the outcome. We strive for 100% quality, and trying to put a "band-aid" on that area would not have yielded a long term solution. You were happy enough with the counter tops that you had us do your own home, and i think that speaks volumes about our quality. Your solid surface tops do have a 10 year warranty, whereas the laminate does indeed only carry a 1 year warranty as you mentioned. I'm sorry that you went away without getting the answer you were looking for. Please feel free to call if you have any other concerns. Thank You"
"[removed member name], As mentioned when we spoke on the phone, we are sorry that some pottery was broken during the resurface of your counter tops. Our installers typically do not remove items from shelves, as they are focused on the matter at hand. I wish our installer, or you could have had the foresight to remove the dishes from your shelving prior to the work beginning. I guess no one really thought about them vibrating off of the open shelving below the counter tops. Apart from deducting the price you said they were worth from your total bill, I'm not sure what else you thought we should do. As a family owned company, we profit share with our employees throughout the year. So in a sense the money paid for your dishes did come out of "his" pocket. We are glad that you are happy with the work performed, other than the slight mishap that we all wish could have been avoided. Thank You, Alaska Countertops."
1.) The sales lady never explained to me that after the installers completely unhooked my sink and dishwasher, that it's not common practice to re-connect any of the plumbing. So when I came home after work at 5pm, I had to run to home depot (to buy 2 drains-which I wasn't told to anticipate buying before installation) and also the installers broke the tailpiece pipe going to the dish washer....so I had to go back to home depot to buy at 9pm. It wasn't expensive, but it would have been extremely helpful to know that 1. ) i need to buy drains before install 2.) hire a plumber for the day of install (i'm lucky my fiance knows how to do plumbing or else i would have been screwed). and 3) that the installers would have just fessed up and said they sheared off a pipe so I didn't have to run back to home depot. With all that said, I called them after the install to let them know they should be explaining these things to customers. The guy told me that the sales lady was new and didn't know. About 3 weeks later after the install, I called back because they never hauled away my sink which has been sitting in my driveway the whole time looking unsightly...and the lady answered. She said she had heard about my complaints and told me very rudely that it is known and quot;industry wideand quot; that they don't re-connect the plumbing. I told her that I am not and quot;In the industryand quot; SO I WOULDN'Tand quot; KNOW THAT. I was simply trying to help HER out by explaining my frustrations as a customer so it doesn't continue to happen to other customers.
2) The second issue is that no one ever asked me what was to be hauled away on the day of the install. I even left my number for the installers and specifically told them to PLEASE CALL ME if they have ANY questions. Nope, they never called, they just hauled away the one thing I wanted to keep (a wooden countertop) and left my old countertop and sink on the porch, which were the two things I didn't want to keep! So when I called the next day after the install, the lady told me I could pick up the wooden top at the store. After thinking about it, I felt that I shouldn't have to drive all the way across town to pick up something that she should have communicated about. So I called back and the guy answered. He said okay, just call him when I get the faucet off the sink and they would come pick everything up and bring back the wooden countertop. So I did call him and tell him that and it just sat there for 3 weeks. So I called back, the owner actually answered, and I started to tell him about everything (which he was completely unaware of)..and he said he wanted to look at my file and call me back. We have been playing phone tag and every time I call the staff say he's not there and I know he's not getting the messages because all they say, is and quot;well I'll have this conversation with himand quot; and the lady kept rudely interrupting me, and told me that she already and quot;took the hitand quot; for not communicating to me about what to haul away.
So at this point, she tells me they threw away the wooden counter top and she doesn't know what resolution I want. I told her I was calling to have this conversation with the owner. And she says, and quot;I will have this conversation with himand quot;. I better not hold my breathe for that one. SO PLEASE CONSIDER THIS BEFORE dealing with a company who does not COMMUNICATE with each other, or takes notes during phone calls or communicates with their customers what to expect during and after an install.
