It went fine for the most part. There were only a few boxes with dents. One computer desk was broken. One box had come open. The people in Las Vegas brought the pallets down a ramp and helped up put them into a moving truck.
As furniture comes out they put it in the rooms per our direction, unwrap it, and we examine it for damage. Boxes are unloaded, placed in rooms per our direction, but not unpacked. We are amazed at the care with which our belongings are handled. Even the heavy and awkward wood working machines are handled with kid gloves. We're cutting wrapping off some furniture and shop machines since we know what the items are and can handle them less gingerly. By the end of the day the first container is empty and they're discussing bringing the second container out this evening, that's how diligent they are.
Second day they arrive as scheduled, only Alex and Mark today since the heavy machinery, furniture and pool table slates are done. The unloading goes smooth and by the end of the day the container is empty and we're reviewing and signing the paperwork. Alex explains the claim form to use if we find something damaged, or missing. He notes they'll come back to haul away the empty boxes and packing material which may be a few months down the road.
the front porch with a friend when we heard a distinctive 'click click' and looked up in time to see one of the movers pull the trigger of my husband’s 12-gauge shotgun and blow a hole in my front porch, aimed in our general direction. (he would have had to 1. remove the safety, 2. rack the round into the chamber, and 3. pull the trigger). When he arrived, their supervisor Andy apologized to me...the movers didn't. They were too busy laughing and joking about what had happened. Despite my telling them not to enter the master bath, someone decided to use it to go #2 and clogged the toilet so severely that my friend and I took turns plunging it for ~30 minutes after they left. (See photo) Their supervisor Andy arrived and was able to unclog it after I called him in tears. While moving furniture out of the front door, they needed to open it wider than the door stop would allow, and instead of unscrewing it, one of them broke it off and did not say a word to me about it. I discovered this several days later and replaced it myself.Someone pulled the red emergency cord on the garage door, rendering it inoperable, I had no ladder to stand on to fix it. They left the curtain rods hanging half off, and even pulled one of the rod-holders out of the wall, leaving it on the floor for me to find. Again their
supervisor Andy had to come fix this for me as well since I was unable to reach and had nothing to stand on.While I was signing documents at the end of the packing process, I mentioned that they did not have a phone number nor a delivery address listed on any of these documents. I was told not to worry about it they would call me to get it later. I was blown off with and quot;I'm sure the office has itand quot; We picked AAA because on their advertisement it states and quot;Military discountsand quot;, and quot;BBB accreditedand quot;, and and quot;Pro Moversand quot;. After they took our stuff, we were told that military discounts only apply to in-town moves 'sorry yours is international' (Alaska has been a member of the USA since 1959 right?). Then when we contacted BBB it wasn't there, nor was it listed on Pro Movers, neither
of them have AAA Moving and Storage on their websites. This is false advertising and exploitative of military personnel. We were not given an estimated delivery date only a 'range' of 4-6 weeks and when calling to track it, were unable to get many specifics, other than 'the last I heard.....' and were even told once, after calling the Anchorage office, that they had no record of our shipment (I gave them the shipment #) and that I should probably file a claim for a total loss. We were also not given an official estimate in writing, only a range of charges (this is illegal) and were not provided with an opportunity to witness the weighing nor shown any
documentation on the official weight upon request (illegal), nor were we given a 'rights and responsibilies pamphlet' (also illegal). We were concerned that this weight was substantially more than when we moved to Alaska, despite leaving behind several large pieces of furniture, AND not having purchased even a single additional piece during this time. After over 30 days of absolutely no cooperation at all, we contacted Visa and explained that we would like to dispute just the 'service' portion of this move, and we have yet to receive our belongings, we had been unable to contact anyone at AAA willing to even discuss a refund for a portion of the payment due to the poor service, and neglegence. So, we called Chase Visa, explained what had happened, and they agreed to do arbitraton with AAA Moving and Storage, and opened a dispute. Eventually siding with us, due to no response from AAA Moving and Storage at all. We received a 50% refund from Visa.On 9/25/12 Linda Parrigin of AAA Moving and Storage called me and informed me that until I called Visa and reversed the 'dispute' AND provided them with a written statement that I would never try to dispute any charges with them again (This is illegal), they would be holding my family's belongings hostage for as long as it takes (also illegal). She also denied they did anything wrong and did not care that I had a witness with me the entire time. She refused to even speak with my witness or even entertain any reasonable dialogue choosing instead to patronize us, and make disparaging remarks about how we were trying to 'get something for nothing' and that she expected better from military personnel and told me that I had and quot;been treated better than you deservedand quot;. I called Visa and explained the situation, and they thought I had a very strong case against them but did not want us to go for any longer than necessary without our belongings-we've been sleeping on the floor for over a month now. So we closed the dispute and they got their money. So, now, they have both our
money and our household goods, and are returning neither.(illegal).So, as of right now, they continue to hold all of our worldly possessions hostage for no reason other than to try to exploit us for more money. We have filed complaints for each one of these charges with the BBB, Pro Movers, State and Federal authorities. According to Linda by expecting the professional service that we paid for, we were expecting 'something for nothing' and were 'treated better then we deserved' because they shipped it over SEA (without speaking to us) and only charged us the LAND rates, and she is also under the impression that the $5 per 100 lbs discount that we were given for our 'troubles' was more than sufficient (this is less even than the fictitious military discount they claimed). So, if this being treated better then we deserved I would hate to see how they thought we deserved to be treated.
