Decks By Steve

Steve made an appointment for an estimate and arrived on time. He listened to our ideas and then designed and sent three plans quickly. We asked him to combine two plans and add an additional bench. Steve and his crew were polite and efficient. They cleaned up after their work. We love our new deck and look forward to enjoying it next summer.

One board was not nailed at the end from the first time he worked on the deck. It has been about 3-4 years now, and the board is coming up on the end. I called him about coming out to fix it, and he said he would be right out. He never showed up, and that was last week. I called again yesterday and left a message. He has not returned my call.

The crew was very professional and CLEAN!  Every day they cleaned up the work site.  The deck is built so strong, it does not move when you walk across it, the seams of the boards are flush and tight.

We were very pleased with the end result.  While the weather delayed Steve and his guys several times we knew there wasn't much anyone could do about that; and they worked when they could, including a couple of Saturdays, to try and get our job done.  Steve takes a lot of pride in his work and he is a perfectionist.  He kept me in the loop with how things were going which was very helpful. 

Steve is very nice and met with me prior to starting the project to give my ideas and suggestions. He did 4 different drawings for me to choose from, all with variations of options we had discussed.
We had some communication issues when I asked for a written contract-- timeliness of responses. I got the impression Steve had been flooded with appointments for quotes, in part because of his great reviews on Angie's List. Once we got a contract completed, I mailed Steve a check for 50% deposit. I waited a bit to learn when the project would start. Then, suddenly I got an e-mail leading up to July 4 weekend saying "we'll be at your house on July 8th". They came to demolish the old deck. When they did, the sump pump discharge pipe became unhooked. I wasn't home, so I don't know if this resulted from the condition of how the pipe was installed, or something they did. I do give Steve credit for notifying me promptly, but this resulted in a ~$500 plumber's trip I didn't expect.
Construction continued and was completed then end of July. The new deck and porch look great, and the construction job is solid. They cleaned up after themselves in a timely and thorough manner.
My main issue with the project was the subcontractor Steve used to do roofing and siding. This man, Luis, parked his truck blocking my driveway when I drove up at 7p on a Friday night. He proceeded to hammer and talk on the phone until nearly 9P-- needless to say, my neighbors nor I had a peaceful Friday evening. I wish I could say this was the last evening Luis disturbed for me, but there were several more. Luis' lack of professionalism was topped off when he brought his young son onto my construction site, and didn't seem to understand why I had a problem with it (it's called personal liability if the kid got hurt on my property...he didn't strike me as someone with the best, if any liability insurance). If you're considering hiring Steve, please make sure he's found a new roofing/siding subcontractor. You do not want Luis on your project. FYI-- this guy Luis rang my doorbell after 9p last week and is now trying to start his own landscaping / construction business. Needless to say, that newly printed business card went into the trash. Steve- if you see this, know that Luis is going behind your back. Don't use him anymore.

With a few weather delays, it went perfect! Deck done in 2 days and it's perfect!

After contacting Steve, he was out to the house within a couple of days to look at the area for the deck.  The next day we received an email with several different designs to choose from.  We had Steve modify one design and he again emailed us a layout with the price.  Deck was started within a week and completed in two days.  All of the workers were friendly and professional.  At the end of the job all scrap was cleaned up and some advice was given concerning how to stain the deck.  Would use this group again for any future projects that we might have.

Steve was extremely responsive, and the consultative approach was really appreciated. Not only did Steve identify a cost-effective solution to my need, he also helped me save money in the process. I was moving into a new home and quickly needed the small deck pad completed so I could have my hot tub moved on to it.  He was very flexible to meet my required time line. I could not be more happy with the look and functionality of the completed project.  I would use Steve again and again.  I would also highly recommend him to anyone who needs this type of work done. Steve and his crew were very punctual and did a great job.  They came when they said the would and installed the deck in 2 days.  Steve was very professional and a pleasure to work with.  The deck looks great and we are very pleased with it and would highly recommend him and would use him again in the future.

Steve was very professional and knowledgeable. He provided my husband and I with 3 different layouts originally. We made some changes to one of the layouts and he was very receptive to our feedback. We got exactly what we wanted in terms of size and layout. They did all the work in 2 days and my husband and I never even saw them as they did all of the work while we were gone during the day at our jobs. They cleaned up after themselves. Overall, quality of the deck is great, design is creative and we have had so many compliments. We stained the deck ourselves but Steve provided us with details regarding recommended stain and when and how often we should stain the deck. We would definitely use them again in the future or recommend them to our friends or family.

Steve came out to give us an estimate and a few ideas on different layouts of decks. He worked with us and made adjustments to our satisfaction. Great communication.  Cleaned up daily and takes great pride in his work.  Steve and crew were always friendly and answered questions.  I would definitely recommend him to anyone without hesitation.  We love our new beautiful deck and can't wait to enjoy next summer, thanks Steve and crew!

Steve came and reviewed the job he called the following day provided the estimate and arrived the same day to perform the job. We had a few boards on our 10 year old deck that had split and the hand railing that had separated from the base. Steve and another gentleman came in removed the old boards and replaced with new wood very quickly and efficiently. We have since had some painters pressure wash and stain the deck and the deck looks like a completely new install.

Steve came out to do the estimate and sent us several options via email just a few days later.  My wife is not a huge fan of decks and was very worried about how one would look on a house like ours.  It was important to her that the deck match the vinyl fence in the backyard and not look out of place or obtrusive.  I am happy to say she is extremely pleased with the deck.  It turned out better than either of us thought it would.  Steve's design couldn't have been more perfect.  The entire process was very smooth and required very little effort on our part.  It took two days for Steve and his crew to complete the deck.  At the end of the second day we came home from work to a beautiful new deck.  Steve and his guys left everything in great condition.  They did all the clean up and there is no left over debris from the project.  

It turned out fantastic. Steve is very conscientious and professional. We had to wait several months to get the job completed by him. There were long gaps in the communication, but he still kept us posted on the progress. It was well worth the wait.  They worked well without supervision and the deck is beautiful! I would highly recommended him.

He tore the old deck down and hauled it away.  Everything went great. He has a great crew.

Steve arrived to look at the job, worked with us to design our deck, built our deck making changes to the design along the way with no hesitation. From start to finish, including tearing our old deck out, building the new, approximately 700 square foot multi-level deck leaving us with a ready to use, beautiful outdoor living space, was just 4 1/2 days.
