It is a group which has about 6 vet doctors. Although it is a fair amount of money, I have to rate them as"A". They are competitive with every other veterinary clinic in town.

Our twelve year old Cairn Terrier became very ill with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and we presented to the Avenues Pet Clinic for emergency care. The staff was professional and compassionate in the care of our pet and in their interaction with two very stressed owners (ourselves). After a twenty four hour hospital admission, our pet made a full recovery. Throughout the entire treatment, we could not have ask for a more caring environment for our pet to recovery. All areas of her treatment were explained and communicated in a very professional manner, and the staff has followed up for forty eight hours after her discharge. We could not have ask for a better experience throughout the care of our pet.

They drained all the blood from the hematoma (swelling) and bandaged her ear to keep it flat and prevent further damage. Dr Hartshorn stayed late to do the procedure that evening and was available over the next few days when we had questions.
We have been using Avenues for at least the last 6 years and have never had less than an excellent experience. All the staff is knowledgable and friendly, and there because they genuinely care about the pets and owners.
I strongly recommend Avenues Clinic.

The office staff was friendly, and the veterinarian herself was friendly but not very engaging. I thought, their prices were high, because I had two services elsewhere. It was a limited experience.

We go in atleast once every 6 months or so for check ups. We find that their prices are reasonable. They both are taken care of according to our needs. The vets are very gentle with my dog and cat. They do not cater to the owners, which makes a big difference. Sometimes clinics do that to get money out of them. They are for the pets. Their patients are the pets; not the owners. We are moving, but if we were here and had the pets with us, we will most definitely go there. They are very familiar with them.

Results of the testing got us on the way to clearing up many issues. She did very well after we learned what she needed to avoid.

My girlfriend, a 20 year client of this veterinarian's office took my
female in for an emergency c-section while I was hospitalized. First the
vet they had on call had never done a c-section. That required calling
in a second vet. The estimate they gave was $700 and then they tacked on
another $1000. So the total was $1700.00 Ruth, the office manager, from
h***, after having what I considered was a pleasant conversation with
her to try to sort things out, with the resolution that we would talk to
Dr Rod the owner of the clinic once he returned from showing his
dogs at Montgomery County dog show...decided to take it upon herself to
call my girlfriend and harass her into giving her, her charge card info.
Ruth had been in agreement that my charge card would be charged as soon
as Dr. Rod looked over the charges on Tuesday. She went after my
girlfriend on Sunday. The worst of all, was Ruth completely lied saying I
said things...accusing them of price gouging and using words I never
even use. I would run not walk away from this clinic and I am just
grateful I live near much more ethical vets who staff their after hour
clinics appropriately. They did reduce the bill by $200.00. When my dog was admitted they asked for a charge card. I asked if they took AmEx since I had that number memorized. They said they did. I gave them the number and then they claimed they didn't take that either. Incredibly disorganized staff.

Knowing what I know now, that they wouldn't help in an emergency and they are expensive, I wouldn't recommend this clinic.
Response from Avenues Pet Clinic
"This posting does not sound like our clinic policy. Our policy is "We do not decline to see a patient in need. We require payment at the time of service especially the emergency fee with new clients. We accept cash, check, credit card and Care Credit. Some clinics send their clients to Colorado if the client has an after hours emergency, we believe it is important to be available for our patients. We try to provide the most up to date medical care for your pet. I made several phone calls to the client and the client has yet to return any phone call. I even gave my personal cell phone number. I do think it is disappointing that 1 1/2 years have passed before any dissatifaction was brought up. Our clinic is open 7 days a week until 8pm weeknights and Saturday and Sunday until 5pm. One of our doctors is always available for emergencies. Invoice date: 06/16/10 Kenzey The work done on 06/16/10 had a balance of $96.00 not $120.00. The $96.00 included head to tail physical exam, listen to heart, lungs, check ears, eyes and body temperature. Itemized- complete physical exam $37.00, Rabies vaccine, tag, and license- $16.00, Bordatella vaccine- $12.00, DHLPP(Distemper Hepatitis Leptospirosis Parvovirus Parainfluenza) Vaccine- $13.00, Nail Trim -$18.00."

The vet who looked at the dogs was very unprofessional, to opinionated, and didn't really seem to care. She prescribed antibiotics and another drug for the dogs and suggested a special bland diet for them for a week. The vet visit was during normal business hours, however we were charged a higher price for a same day visit. Also the prescription costs were almost three times higher than our normal vet and four times higher than one of the most popular online pet med web site.
Response from Avenues Pet Clinic
"I am disappointed about the difficult mis-communication that must have happend. I have pulled the files and reviewed the cases. How strange to post a negative opinion one year later, the dogs were in August 14, 2009. Also we left multiple messages for the owners and never got a reply. The doctor recommended hospitilization, my suspicion is the owners felt guilty over refusing treatment. (We have multiple doctors and a flavor for every one since personalities differ. So I understand having a preference and maybe not "clicking with one" ) The client was not charged for an urgent care exam. They were charged and evening office call (they were here in the evening) $53.00, Total bill for Sadie was 102.00, Totall bill for Ginger was $106.00 equalling $208.00 NOT $300.00! The medications given were two different types for a 82 lb dog and a 58 lb dog. Cost of the medications about $100.00 for a total of 4 prescriptions for two large dogs. I am sure it would be "cheaper" at pet meds, however I am not sure the pets would have survived if they had to wait for a prescription to be mailed to them. If members would like to discuss this further, I am happy to talk to them. We always try to do the best for our patients, and always try to make every client happy. thank you Ruth Cotton"
