When I consulted with the veterinarian (Stuart White, DVM) and told him that I was concerned my (large) cat was not eating or drinking, his eyes were sunken and didn't seem himself, the vet grabbed his flanks and shook them saying to me "Don't worry, this guy's not going to die of starvation anytime soon". He ran some basic tests, sold me some food and sent me home with a large bill. A week later, unsatisfied with the answer the vet gave me, I took our cat to our previous vet, who's office is 45 minutes away. That vet immediately identified liver problems, and in the course of treatment over the next several days extracted 2 LITERS of fluid out of my cats abdomen, finding the rest of the cavity overtaken with cancer, and my cat had to be immediatley put down for his own comfort. The flanks the vet shook at me were actually cancer surrounded by fluid sacks. Very unprofessional!
