Terrible. The work that was performed was pretty good, but the coordination, scheduling and customer service from the PM was horrendous. A 8 to 10 week (quoted) project took 30 weeks. Only one product held up the project for an extra week, which was no big deal. We were responsible for the demo, appliances, countertops and tile floor which there were no delays. The PM never called or set foot onsite during a 30 week regarding $65K project. I had to re-explain the project to every JM staff and sub on daily basis. Weeks and weeks go by with no responsesfrom the PM (I have it all documented), subs didn't show up as scheduled and then show up unannounced/unscheduled. Terrible customer service and so sad as it could of been easily remedied with a couple of simple calls and timely responses.

I heard good things about JM and this is why I decided to go with them. I had a pretty simple concrete project and only contacted them about the work. First off, they promised the estimate within a week of coming to see my property. I had to call/email multiple times after the first week passed and finally received an estimate a few weeks after the first visit. I had similar experience for other work that JM proposed on - they promise their estimates by a certain date but do not deliver. I would have appreciated them being realistic with me instead of giving me false hope. After the contact was signed, communication was horrible. I tried to accommodate JM to get the sub-contractor out to my house. The first time JM sent the sub-contractor, they didn't even tell me he was coming and I was not home. The sub-contractor was upset by this and JM blamed it on me. Once we finally got to meet, it was mid-summer so I had to wait another month to get the concrete poured due to how busy the sub-contractor was. Once the concrete was poured, JM's carpenter came over a week or so later to install the hand railing. I came home from work to find the railing sideways and out of the screws. I called and JM stated that he must have used the wrong screws, acting like this is par for the course. JM is also significantly over priced. I only received one estimate for concrete but the other times I asked for an estimate they were anywhere from 15-25% more expensive than other contractors.

The owner did a great job selling his company and their ability to complete our job. Once we had signed the contract things almost immediately took a turn for the worse. Here are just a few of the highlights: Communication was horrible. We never had a handle on who would be in our home.--despite the fact that the owner told us he didn't use sub-contractors. There was one instance where I told them a sub contractor had been at our home without our knowledge and they said he absolutely had not been there. In fact he had talked to my sitter and even left a business card. They had no idea he was in our house. Days would pass without any workers. I would talk to someone in the morning (I ended up having to call every morning to figure out what was going to happen at my house that day) and what they literally told me would happen in the morning wouldn't actually happen. They couldn't even predict what would occur the day-of. One day we came home to find central air had been installed--despite the fact that we had not agreed to central air. They didn't even think it was a big deal at all. They simply REMOVED it the next week--leaving a hole in our house. We just happened to have a separate plumbing issue while they were in the house--they told us their plumber said it would cost $1000-$1390 - we had another master plumber come in and he resolved the issue for $325. They overpriced everything. When we did take the time to do price comparing on things, they were always totally overpriced by 100's/1000's of dollars. Things were not staged properly--they painted so early and with so much work still needing to be done that when the project was completed the walls were filthy and they refused to paint again. The work site was not well maintained. We often were cleaning things up ourselves. Although we had never had a flat tire in the 11 years we've lived here, coincidentally my husband and I both had flat tires while JM was here. They refused to acknowledge it could have been as a result of their unclean work site. And, even had the nerve to say their trucks were also at risk. We were so anxious to be done with JM that we sacrificed much of the quality that we should have expected for a project of this expense. Would never want anyone else to go through what we did . . . do NOT hire this company!

Initially we were very impressed with JM Remodeling. The
owner and his designer met with us in a timely fashion and provided a nice
design that met our needs. The designer was extremely professional and
coordinated meetings with contractors to ensure the proposed project could be
completed as drawn. Contractors confirmed the project could be completed as
drawn-and the construction started about one month later
Upon project commencement we were met by the rough
carpenters, with whom we were also impressed. They moved quickly on their tasks
and did so with a high level of skill and professionalism. They were respectful
of our home, and also respectful of the that fact that my husband worked at
home.
We met the project manager within a week of the project start
date. It should be noted that our project manager canceled a pre-construction
meeting with us, which was designed to help us better understand the project
manager’s role and learn who our one "go to person" would be. Unfortunately, we saw very little of the
project manager - and were often directed to work with another carpenter. The
other carpenter identified himself as someone who worked very closely with the
project manager. The addition of another "go to person" presented a
few challenges. Information we shared with one did not get shared with the
other. Hence, the many questions we had about the project went unaddressed and
both had different viewpoints about how to resolve small project hiccups. As a
result, initially minor issues were exacerbated by miscommunication.
The project plan was met with a brief disruption, when the
HVAC contractors informed us that they could not complete the job as drawn. A
modification, specifically the loss of a walk in-closet was necessary to
properly heat/cool the new space. The loss in the walk in closet did not result
in a reduction to the project cost. Rather
the event was sold as an inevitable need for us to remain flexible in a
remodeling project. In an attempt to regain the lost closet, the contractors
suggested expanding the project to create a new closet space. This new closet
space project went through a formal change order process resulting in an
estimated bill of an additional $6,500. The lack of adequate project planning resulted
in either us losing a closet or increasing our budget. This incident began a
series of events that eroded our confidence in JM Remodeling. As a general
statement, the message was “any changes in the plan resulting from failure or
miscalculation required we as homeowners need to be flexible and understand the
need for such changes.” Unfortunately, the flexibility was not reciprocated
when the loss of closet space lead us to make even more modifications. Because
closet space was critical we negotiated an expansion to the original project,
which cost an additional $3400.00
Confidence in JM Remodeling continued to erode. About 3
weeks into the project we received an email front the project manager
indicating he was going on vacation and that the owner would be acting as the "project
manager." While the project manager was on vacation, we neither heard from
nor saw the owner. Upon the project manager's expected return we received an
email from JM Remodeling indicating that the project manager was no longer employed
with the company - and directed us to work the carpenter (i.e., the person who
was working closely with the project manager previously) and/or the owner.
Shortly after the project manager left JM Remodeling, the project became even
more disconnected, lacked coordination/oversight, and our impression of JM’s
professionalism declined significantly.
The carpenter/new project manager initially did fine
informing of us project progress and when to expect other contractors to arrive
at our home. However, the “new” project manager was rarely available to receive
said contractors. Much of responsibility to let contractors into our home fell
on my husband’s shoulders.
An example of the lack of professionalism involves our not
knowing what to expect on a given work day; and the painter who primed the
walls showing without our knowledge. The painter was unprepared and interrupted
me (I was working at home that day) and asked a series of questions about where
to access what, and even asked me if I had an old rug or sheet to put down so
he wouldn’t get my floor dirty (outside of work area) when he finished spraying
the primer. I was befuddled that he failed to bring materials to complete his
job.
As we approached the 2-month mark, we received an email from
JM Remodeling asking for another payment and to schedule the final payment. I
called JM Remodeling’s office to inform them these payments were not
appropriate given the amount of work that remained. At this point, the plumbing
required completion, the electricity required completion, the damage (very
minor) done to our living room needed repair, and the area work area still
needed cleaning. The administrative assistant was unaware of the remaining
work, so we called the owner and informed him that payment would be withheld
until adequate progress had been made. The phone call with the owner was less
than positive. He was extremely defensive-and asked me to send him a “punch
list” of unfinished work. I was a bit taken aback by the owner’s request, as
the role of the project manager is to know what work has been completed and what
remains.
In an effort to move the project toward completion, I sent
the owner a “punch list” the following day. He informed us that he would
address the remaining work; and all was taken care of within the next 3 weeks.
My husband made sure to let all contractors into the home as they were
scheduled; and met with city inspectors to approve all rough work.
About three weeks after the “punch list” was completed (day
before Thanksgiving), I received a call from JM’s administrative assistant (I
was at work) indicating they would like to pick up final payment that day. The
final payment was $2000. I indicated
that we needed to do a walk-through to ensure the project was complete. I further
indicated we could do this the following week. While on the phone, I could clearly
hear the owner interrupting the administrative assistant – stating that the
project was complete and they needed their money. Because I was at work, I invited
the assistant to have the owner call my husband and negotiate final terms – and
the owner did. The follow-up call to my
husband was less than productive. The owner was highly unprofessional; he was
argumentative about having a final inspection; and demanded payment
immediately. He failed to accept any responsibility for lack of oversight or project
management.
The cumulative effect of our experience with JM Remodeling prohibits
us from recommending them to fellow Angie’s List subscribers and friends. While
our overall opinion of JM Remodeling is less than favorable, to be fair there
were numerous contractors and individual workers who performed exceptionally
well and would garner our recommendation. If given the opportunity we would
hire the designer, electrician, the rough carpenters, the dry wall team, and
roofing crew.

Installed crown molding in a tray ceiling and added LED lights mounting transformer in attic. They ran into a few small challenges which they handled beautifully. I will be very proud to show off their quality.

The job was right from the beginning a total disaster. The cast iron bathtub was removed and when they found that the one side of the tub had a diverted heater element in one side which is part of the heating system it immediately became a issue on how much it will add to the cost etc. Instead of first discussing what is really needed. My husband fixed the issue himself in two days. Now the issue by the plumber was that the drain need to be 2 inch for the shower while the bathtub had a 1 1/2 inch drain.
We were totally horrified that a contractor estimates a job without knowledge ahead of time that the codes are different for a bathtub aNd a shower. Again we just got discussion of more money. There was no professionalism. Nobody was ever on time.
It took 4 months to finish the job partly because my husband decided to do the plumbing himself and was hassled by the contractor's master plumber and the city of Mequon. The contractor and the representative were rude and in the end the job was done with the cabinet not fitting proper when it was reinstalled and the shower door not having the proper handle at the correct side. I now have to climb over a toilette to get out of the shower or break all my nails trying to grab the little end of a handle.
I do not ever want anything to do with this contractor again. He does a sloppy job and is expensive and unprofessional.

They were doing a pretty good job and painted the house as well as replaced all suffices and some of the cedar woodwork. We seemed to be pretty satisfied with the work until we discovered 2 years later in 2013 that the back of the chimney was just painrted over the rotten wood. They never mentioned anything - tried to take short cuts wherever they could.

They gave me a quote that sounded like a good quote. The price and sample seemed well. One of the windows is the wrong color. One of our rooms is an addition and it is more of a pine room where the other rooms are cedar. He put a cedar window in the pine room. He says we had decided that, which we did not decide. He said he would fix the window. My mistake was that I paid him in full and I called and we never had the window changed. The gutters were just hung on the home; they never put the attachments under the flashing of the house.
Response from JM Remodeling & Construction LLC
"Hi Member, That does not sound like a pleasant experience. Unfortunately I believe you have the wrong company. JM Remodeling & Construction was not the company who did this job. There is also a JM Construction on 99th Street that you have mistaken us for. JM Remodeling & Construction LLC"

Things went pretty bad. They convinced me to reflash the chimney. I had multiple problems where they had to come out and fix them. I had a ridge vent installed that I am finding out was not necessary which is likely the cause for mold problems in the attic. I am looking at removing mold and doing a complete tearoff of the roof due to substandard work. I would nmever use this compay again.

I wasn't pleased with them. Had them back several times to replace some flashing because of severe ice damage. They did do the work, but I had some concerns after the work was done. I had a leak, and they had to remove some of my gutters to do the roofing. They didn't put them back on correctly.

"JM REMODELING REPLACED THE CUSTOMER'S ROOF AND INSTALLED TWO SKYLIGHTS IN MAY 2006. UPON COMPLETION, JM RECEIVED A CALL STATING THAT THERE WAS LEAKING COMING FROM THE CHIMNEYS. THE CUSTOMER HAS THREE CHIMNEYS (TWO TINS AND ONE BRICK). JM TOOK ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO FIX THE LEAKS WHICH OCCURRED IN THE TIN CHIMNEYS. AND CAULKED WITH WATER CUT-OFF AT NO CHARGE. ON 8/8/07, HE WENT BACK AND APPLIED UNCURED E. P. D. M. RUBBER-ROOFING MATERIAL TO THE TOP OF THE COLLARS FOR BOTH OF THE METAL CHIMNEYS. WE ALSO CAULKED TWO MORTAR HOLES IN THE BRICK CHIMNEY. DURING THE REPAIRS, THE CUSTOMER WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE CHIMNEY NEEDED TUCK POINTING, WHICH WAS NOT IN OUR CONTRACT. ON 4/11/08, OUR CHIMNEY SPECIALIST WENT BACK TO INSPECT THE METAL CHIMNEYS. AS THAT TIME HE CAULKED UNDER THE METAL COLLARS. HE ALSO CAULKED THE BRICK CHIMNEY WHERE MORTAR WAS SEPARATING (MOST ALL THE BRICK). AGAIN HE ADVISED THE CUSTOMER OF THE TUCK POINTING NEEDED. THE CUSTOMER WAS NOT CHARGED FOR ANY OF THE WORK JM DID ON CALL BACKS. OUR ORIGINAL CONTRACT DID NOT INCLUDE WORK ON EITHER OF THE TWO TIN CHIMNEYS. EVENT THOUGH WE DID NOT THINK THE LEAKING WAS A RESULT OF OUR WORK, WE WENT TO THE CUSTOMER'S HOME EACH AND EVERY TIME THEY CALLED -FREE OF CHARGE. THE EMPLOYEE WE SENT TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WAS VERY EXPERIENCED AS HE HAS BEEN DOING THIS TYPE OF WORK FOR OVER TWENTY-FIVE YEARS. THROUGHOUT THIS MATTER WE RESPONDED TO EVERY CALL FROM OUR CUSTOMER BECAUSE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS OUR NUMBER ON PRIORITY."

THE PEOPLE FROM JM REMODELING ARE VERY NICE AND THEY CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES WELL. THEY LET US KNOW WHEN THEY WERE COMING AND CAME WHEN THEY PROMISED. I WAS A LITTLE UNHAPPY ABOUT THE SECOND BILL TO REPLACE ROTTEN WOOD, BUT SINCE THEY HAD TO COME BACK AFTER THE GUTTERS WERE INSTALLED I GUESS IT IS NOT UNREASONABLE.

MARCEL WAS VERY CLEAR IN DESCRIBING THE JOB. HE WAS VERY PUNCTUAL. IT TOOK A LITTLE WHILE TO SCHEDULE THE JOB BECAUSE THEY WERE BUSY, BUT ONCE THEY BEGAN THEY WERE CONSISTENTLY ON TIME AND VERY CONSCIENTIOUS. THE JOB WAS COMPLETED IN A TIMELY MANNER. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THEIR WORK, AND PLEASED WITH THE WAY THEY TREATED ME. I HIRED THEM BECAUSE MY SISTER HAD THEM DO HER ROOF, AND SHE HIRED THEM ON THE WORD OF SOME NEIGHBORS. SOMEONE RECENTLY CALLED ME FOR A REFERRAL, AND I GAVE THEM MY RECOMMENDATION. I WOULD HIRE THEM AGAIN.

EFFICIENT, COURTEOUS, AND PROFESSIONAL. THE FIRST BIG STORM AFTER THE ROOF WENT UP HAD A LEAK. OWNER WAS THERE WITHIN HOURS, FOUND THE LEAK (NOT ON ROOF), REPAIRED FOR FREE. IT''S BEEN SIX MONTHS AND THE ROOF IS GREAT.
