I needed an engagement ring and wedding band in a about 3 weeks. My then fiancé told me what she likes in an engagement ring (halo with round ideal cut diamond). With her likes in mind and knowing my budget I went to Jim and told him what I needed. Jim and I talked for about an hour during our first meeting. He taught me about diamond clarity, the different types of cuts and the different levels of quality for diamonds. Since there were no pre-made rings in the style that my fiancé wanted, Jim would have to make her ring by hand. Since it has a platinum band Jim said that three weeks was pushing it, but he would get it done.
Jim was very good at communicating with me through out the process. He called about every other day to give me an update on his progress. I could tell he was worried about making the time frame that I gave him and that he would do everything he could to finish the ring on time.
On the day that he said he would have it finished he called and said I could pick it up. When I got to his store and saw the ring for the first time I was amazed at the quality of the ring and the decorative scroll work he hand cut into the side of the band. It exceeded all of my expectations. That night I got home and gave the ring to my fiancé and she couldn't stop looking at her ring. She was very very happy and has received countless complements on her ring since the day she got it.
After we got married I got my wife's ring appraised by a third party for insurance purposes and the appraised replacement value was $8,000 more that what I was charged. I knew Jim was charging less than the stores you see in the malls, but I had no idea how little he marked up
Every couple of months my wife takes her ring into Jim's shop and he cleans and inspects her ring for free. He is always very friendly and gracious.
I would highly recommend going to Barnes Goldsmith Shop because you will get quality pieces for a very reasonable price.
