They ran a number of diagnostic tests and had several different mechanics take it for a ride to observe how the car was functioning. They didn't find any problems. I was given a detailed explanation that included further testing and possible preemptive repairs. They recommended not going with the preemptive repairs and taking a wait-and-see approach, as a way to avoid unnecessary expenses. They didn't charge anything for the time they spent looking at the car. On the whole, this seems to be an honest and very helpful business. I plan on coming back in the future.

My first time at Westside and I chose this location based on previous reviews here. I was not disappointed. I was concerned at their site that initially requested 2-days prior appointments for work, but they must have had a momentary slowdown. They were able to get me in immediately and the part arrived in world record time. The part was more expensive than I had expected, as the part was more than it would have been directly from a part supply shop, but the professionalism and quality of the work were unmatched so far in my experiences in the Madison area. I will be going back to Westside. They did only what I needed them to do and everyone in the shop seemed interested in my car being fixed quickly. I was in and out in no time and actually came in under what they initially quoted me. There isn't much of a waiting room, just a couple of chairs, free wifi, and a keurig, but it was enough to get me what I needed at the moment.

During a recent oil change performed by the Hyundai dealership where I'd gotten my car, they noted the above items as needing service. They also provided me a quote of $1,921.77 for the work. I am not very mechanically-inclined beyond a few basic maintenance tasks, so I did a little internet research. The dealership price seemed about 15%-20% above what i was seeing from some reputable online calculators (taking location into account). I called Westside Service Center (I've had work done by them in the past) for a quote to compare, and left a phone message; my message was never returned, which is why I gave 4 stars for responsiveness. I stopped by their shop after work the next week and described the scope of work the dealership had noted. Aaron was quite helpful in talking me through the issues and helping me prioritize. In the end, given the prices they were quoting me, I elected to have all of the work done, but Westside did not pressure me into it and was more than willing to pass on work that wasn't immediately critical. In my (2) experiences with Westside Service Center, these (4) factors have really won me over: 1) They are very good about explaining all the work, 2) They understand one's budget and will work with you to devise a "now vs. later" plan for repairs that you truly need now and those that you can put off a bit if you can't afford it right away, 3) Their price is very reasonable and has been considerably lower than other numbers I've gotten, & 4) the work seems to be done very well (no later problems with it). I am leery of getting taken advantage of by auto mechanics, in general, but am at complete ease taking my car into Westside Service Center. In this case, my car was ready when promised, after hours drop-off was easy, and they were very cooperative about making an arrangement for me to get my car after their (and my) business hours and pay over the phone. And, to balance out my comment regarding the unreturned initial phone call, it might have been a fluke because Westside was very responsive to all subsequent calls and customer service was excellent. (Look it up - they've won numerous awards, including from Angie's List). I'm very happy to have found Westside Service Center, and I will be bringing my cars back there for (hopefully infrequent) future service needs.

I was in a hurry to get my windshield wipers fixed due to the bad weather. Westside Servide Center was able to fit me in the same day. Also I wanted new tires because my old ones were worn and were horrible in the snow. They ordered the wiper transmission and tires right away and got them an hour later. Their customer area is small with a few seats and a Keurig coffee maker, however I didn't want to wait around in there for 4 hours. Luckily Westside Service Center has loaner cars! They're free, you just have to pay for gas. I was able to drive home and wait in the comfort of my apartment until they called me to tell me that my car was ready. This is a GREAT option, I wish more places had this. I felt comfortable trusting the mechanic I talked to; I DIDN'T get any s***** subconscious reaction when I dealt with him, which is pretty rare for me when dealing with other mechanics. The work was done an hour quicker than what was estimated and the price was exactly what was estimated. I left very satisfied, I will definitely be back even though I am moving to the east side of Madison soon.

I took my 2003 Infiniti G35 into Westside Service Center on Madison's, south side. I thought it was a break line that ruptured. Lines were old and they were replaced, but Westside found a bracket that ruptured. They replaced my hoses as I requested and replaced my bracket. Great job, only 2 additional days due to parts that had to be ordered. But the price was about $400 less than I was expecting. A+++ I would recommend this place to anyone.

We took in our car for an oil change and overall inspection. We specifically had a question regarding a clicking noise that happened on the front right side of the vehicle when we used our brakes. Upon inspection, we were told that the brake pads weren't adhered properly, which was causing the noise; the brake pads were thus re-adhered as a part of our overall inspection and we weren't charged anything extra for this. After we left, however, the clicking continued upon braking, and thus wasn't properly addressed here. Despite this, our technician seemed knowledgable and the oil change and inspection were very reasonably priced. We would return, but would probably get our brakes looked at elsewhere.

Response from Westside Service Center
Thank you for the feedback. With regards to the brakes, we tried to explain that this may not cure the noise and if it did, it would not be immediate. Hence the reason we did not charge you anything. During discussion it was decided that this was the best route to take (since there was plenty of life left on them) Vs. Spending $250-$300 to Renew them. Please feel free to call us if you have questions regarding your brakes.

Aaron was great. He made time even though his schedule was full up for many days in advance to take a look at my mothers car since she was going to do some long distance driving. She had noticed a wobbling sensation and he said up front what the likely suspects were after listening to a description of the problem. He tested everything but found nothing major wrong with the vehicle (turns out it may have just been a flat spot on the tire from the car sitting in one position for a while that self corrected once the tires warmed up). He tightened everything thing up just to be safe and sent her on her way with no charge for his service. It may have been nothing serious in the end but by having it checked she had piece of mind that she was okay to drive (and that's very important for her) and the fact that he made time for her on a Tues even though he was booked solid until Friday says a lot. Also while I was there I told him I was going to need to stop in and have the gas shock that lifts my hood replaced and should I come in on Friday? I had the part already sitting in my car and since it was only like a 2 minute job he just did it on the spot while talking to me about my mothers car. No charge for that either. This is our 4th experience with Westside Service Center (two large jobs, one medium and a couple small odds and ends/non repairs) and each has been professionally done in a timely and flexible manner and the price was always equal to or less than what other shops quoted us. They are very quickly becoming our go to mechanic. Keep up the great work guys! Christopher

We got them on Angie's List. The work was done in a very timely manner and by appointment only. I don't have any problems with them. They are a little bit expensive but I have synthetic oil so that's probably why it happened. I have every intention of using it in the future, my husband does not like going to dealerships.

I was able to get my car in at a reasonable time and my car was examined. They tried everything they could think of but they couldn't find any thing wrong with the car and told me so! They asked to keep the car overnight to test it under the same conditions I had at home and still couldn't find anything wrong! They saw no repairs to be made and the bill reflected this! They did not take advantage of me as many other shops would have done in their place. Their service was 'A#1' and the customer service was the best I have ever received
Description of Work: I had been having trouble starting my car for several days. I had recharged my battery using one of those portable battery chargers but my car still wouldn't start. I didn't know exactly what the problem could be and needed a mechanic who wouldn't rip me off for large unnecessary repairs. After finding this vendor on Angie's list, I gave them a call. They examined and tested my car, recharged my battery and got me back on the road. My car has been running ever since.

I phoned the auto repair business and indicated that I needed a quote on a headlight for a Toyota. They called back with a quote and I made an appointment for the installation. The mechanic was ready to work on my car when I brought it in and installed the headlight. We agreed that there was a yellow tint to the light and I said I could live with it- I didn't have time to go through the process again.
Description of Work: I called this business regarding replacing a broken headlight on a 1994 Toyota. The mechanic on duty said that they were pretty sure that they could help me and said that they would check and call me back. Within an hour they called me back and quoted a price that was substantially less than what I would have paid for a replacement at a Toyota dealer. I was pleased with their responsiveness and made an appointment for the installation. A few days later the headlight was installed. I was a little disappointed with the " new " light because it had a yellow look to it when the light was on - but I guess it was a fair price for what I got - I was told ahead of time that it would be a used headlight - it was just more used than the other good headlight on my car. I had a broken headlight replaced on my Toyota. The company was responsive to my request for a replacement quote and got back to me in a timely manner. They were punctual when I brought my car in and worked on it right away. And although I was a little disappointed with the yellow tint of the replacement light, I believe I paid a fair price for the parts and work that was performed.

My water pump was leaking. I checked the prices at both of the dealerships for my Prius here in town and I suspected both of trying to upsell me. I emailed West Side based on their Angie's List grade and heard back right away with the estimate of the replacement. They were prompt, professional, and detailed with their estimate. They did not try to sell me anything other than the repair that I needed. They cost about $10 less than the dealership, but not having to deal with the constant attempts to take advantage of my lack of knowledge was refreshing. I dropped the car off that same week and they had it back to me early that afternoon. I would use them again, and have recommended them to friends. They clearly deserve their high rating on this website, as far as I'm concerned.

My appointment at Westside Service Center went very well. I arrived quite early (knowingly) and expected to wait. However, the guys there are great, had time to get me in early, thus getting me out early as well. They are friendly, honest and efficient. The bill was reasonable considering Subaru's required expensive oil. I never mind having to take my car in any more.

Got a "Check Engine" light on, i own a Honda Civic, 1999. Took it to a different mechanic, told me that it was the oxygen sensor. Also apparently i had a cracked pipe or something. He told me it would be $1500 to get it fixed. I only paid $92 for getting the computer read my code on the check engine light. Went to Autozone, the guy read the "check engine" code for free. Told me that it could be one of three things. Took the car to Westside Service Center. The guy told me that to fix it it would be about $600. Them he explained that the oxygen sensor was ok but some heater that heats it up to become responsive fast was not working. That meant that rather than working in 30 seconds, the sensor would kick in in about 2 mins. He said that given the age of the car it would not be worth spending the money. I really appreciated his honesty.

Our car had been pulling badly to the right, after 3 alignments at 3 different shops, it was still pulling. The Subaru dealership had told us it was a leaky front strut that needed to be fixed. We took it to Westside Service Center based on other reviews from Angie's List. We let them know what we thought was going on, and the mechanic let us know that the leaky front strut wouldn't be doing that. We left the car with him (also needed an oil change) and a little while later he called to let us know he had traced the problem to the fact that tires had worn out weird, which was making the car pull, but had nothing to do with the alignment. He rotated the tires multiple times to find out which way they would pull the least. We feel like he went out of his way to help us, and in the end we spent about $500 less that we expected, and the problem is fixed. These guys are great, honest, and very diligent. Highly Recommended.

I received an estimate by phone in about an hour. The front brakes needed pads and new rotors, but the rear brakes were fine. No problem with the exhaust system (tech explained the sound change). The tech also had a secondary receomendation to change the spark plugs, which were showing some wear. I went ahead and did the brake job, plugs, and oil change, and was very happy with the price and level of service. Other shops would have recommended alot more work at a much higher cost. I believe these guys are good and honest mechanics, and deserve your business.
Description of Work: I bought my vehicle new, and the only money spent on maintenance for the last 5.5 years and 167k miles had been oil changes and tires (lucky, I know). My brakes were starting to grind, gas milage was down a little, and the exhaust was starting to sound "throaty". I knew it was time. I found Westside Service Center on Angies List, made an appointment and took my car in on a Friday morning. I explained the situation outlined above, and I was expecting to spend some serious money.

My car was running rough. Westside ordered the parts, replaced them, showed me the old parts and the problem is solved.
Description of Work: I've used Westside for a couple of years now after becoming very disillusioned by the Volvo dealer in town. My car is getting up there in miles and they've kept it running smoothly at a much more reasonable price than the dealer (in the beginning I compared estimates--and found higher prices and unnecessary repairs advised by the Volvo dealer). I've found Westside to be honest, reliable, and willing to explain the repairs that are needed. I highly recommend them.
