Initial appointment via phone and email went very smoothly. They also called the day before the move to reconfirm the appointment. I was told they would stop by between 11:00am - 2:00pm. Instead, they finished with their first appointment early and the office called about 9:30am to say the truck was on its way. Unfortunately my cell phone turned itself to silent mode so I never got the message. The actual movers called again and left me a message sometime after 10am. They finally drove the truck by our new house (which was only a few blocks from our old house) to let me know they were in the neighborhood. We had family move all of our smaller boxes of stuff to the new house over the weekend and the new house was a disaster and I was frantically trying to clear a path thinking I had until at least 11am. When I tried to explain this the guy driving the truck just gave me a head shake and drove off. Not a good way to start.
When I got to the new house I apologized for not getting their call, but told them I would not be paying for their time since 9:30am. It was 10:45am by this point and we agreed to a start time of 10:15am.
Overall the three guys did a decent job of moving the furniture. Nothing broke. There were a few dents in the walls, but I can't say for sure it was caused by these movers. They finished moving everything by 1:30pm and charged me for an end time of 2:15pm.
Before they called it quits, I ran downstairs to see if the sleeper sofa had been moved in ok. It was in place, but all the cushions and mattress were still on the floor. I didn't think I'd have ask for help putting those items back (especially when it was only 1:30pm and I was being charged up until 2:15pm, but I did
Then they call in my credit card information over a walkie talkie system out in the driveway (for all of my new neighbors to hear)
When they had to repeat the card info I asked the mover to step inside the house to keep my information private. He laughed and commented that he hadn't thought about the privacy issue.
So overall the service was ok, the price was ok, but there wasn't any going above and beyond (like putting sofa cushions back on the sofa).
If I move again, I'll probably look around for another company that gives a little more thought to the customer experience.
Customers that are moving are already exhausted and frazzled from all that they go through just to get to moving day, going a little above and beyond can mean a lot.
If you are moving....hire Mad City Movers. They will do whatever they can to make the transition to a new location easier for you.....
Another company in town gave us a quoute of $1,200. This was an in-home estimate and the qoute was for three guys for eight hours. Mad City gave me the qoute over the phone which was spot on and for half of the price. We will definitely use them again in the future.
They got right to work at the new house (first asking to be shown rooms and where things will ultimately go). The movers were efficient and friendly and professional. Our only complaint is lack of quality and care in moving the large items. At both the old & new homes, walls were scratched and dinged. No items were damaged at all. They did a good job overall, we are just disappointed in the wall dings. And the lack of mentioning it or acknowledging the damage. It is curious why they wrap the soft furniture and do nothing with wood/solid furniture. Seems you would want to cushion the solid pieces.
They were done with the unload in 2.5 hours. Our quote was for 7-8 hours, but we did a ton of prep work in order to be ready for them to just load upon arrival.
