In summer of 2019 I needed my brakes replaced. I'd had basic maintenance work done before and they do fine work. When I paid $460 for my rear brakes, they offered me a lifetime warranty that, they said, would allow me to get brake work done for ONLY the cost of labor. Great! sign me up. Fast forward to September 2020. Front brakes needed work, so I took my car in, and they said it would cost me $460. What about my warranty? Oh, I only bought a warranty for my rear brakes! Despite the fact that they told me otherwise, I decided not to give them my business anymore because this was dishonest and frankly, bad business. So, I learned how to do brakes myself because $500 is totally outrageous. btw It cost me $70 just to find out why my AC wasn't working. To be fair they're really nice there, and they do good work. But I don't think their prices are justified.

 + -1 moreThe service was very good. The workers were very good. They guy that runs the place is very knowledgeable and accommodating. He actually even had done things like telling me that I do not need a service and do not need to spend that much money. I always like to hear that. The work was done very promptly. The quality of their repair work stands out. I never had a problem.
Description of Work: For mechanical work, I use a place called Girard’s Service. They serviced my truck. I had some major brake work done. The truck is fifteen years old. There were other things done also.

 + -1 moreThe job was much more complicated and costly than expected. Girard's had to do a lot of extra work to replace this part, but they never told me how complicated replacing this part would be. I feel that they have betrayed my trust and will never go back to them. They should have contacted me before making the repair. Also, after the fix, I could not open my hood because of a faulty repair on their part. After it was supposedly fixed, two service technicians had to work on the under hood latch so I could open the hood. Very unprofessional.
Description of Work: Replaced the steering system oil cooler because it was leaking.

 + 0 moreSo far, they have been okay. They are a little pricey but they seemed competent. They looked for the real problem and just fixed that instead of coming up with the big list of things to do. Their qual is convenient if I need a ride home. They seemed to be able to get in me real quick. I haven’t had any problem in getting my vehicle done.
Description of Work: I used Girard’s Service Center in Franklyn, Wisconsin for emissions test and a few months ago I had some run in damage for hitting a pothole and they fixed that. I ended up getting a pair of front tires at the same time.

 + -1 moreI have been going to Girards for oil changes since I bought my car ten years ago. As others said they never try and push me into expensive repairs. Once I was told that the belts were getting worn and they would check again at next oil change. Another time I was told my transmission fluid was dirty. But they never pushed me to get the work done. I came back after making my own decision to do the repairs after consulting my owners manual. Once I brought my car in when it was making a horrible noise. It turned out to be the front brakes and they replaced them same day. They said my back brakes would be good for awhile. I feel that they are honest and their prices are fair. I often hear them asking people if they need a ride home. I also like the reward points. I am unemployed right now and need to drive my older car for awhile longer so I was glad that I could use my reward points to get a free tire rotation or I probably would not have had that done until much later and it was already overdue. It is the Girards at the South Milwaukee location that I go to.
Description of Work: I used my reward points to get a free tire rotation.

 + 0 moreI have been using Girard's for 10 years and have been extremely satisfied with their work. I trust them completely. I have a 2002 Ford Taurus and it has 190,000 miles on it. I believe that I have almost re-built that car from the ground up over the last 11 years! Numerous times Girard's told me that the problem was not as bad as I expected. I have never found them trying to talk me into something more expensive. They use quality parts that are warranted for life and I have driven my car for so many miles that they have replaced expensive parts (like a water pump) more than once and the part was free, I just paid for labor. Paul, their service writer has more knowledge about cars than anyone I have ever encountered in this field. They have a points system where you can cash in points for services. Recently I used $78 worth of points to pay for part of the new tires that I purchased. They also remember your wedding anniversary and you can pick up two free movie tickets. A nice touch. I highly recommend them.

 + -1 moreAfter the work was completed i was told "i don't know who does your oil changes but they failed to grease the bearing and now you need two new struts" ($1000). I asked if i could drive on it and was told yes it will just be noisy. After sharing this all with a mechanic who WASN'T trying to part me with my money, i learned the comments were incorrect/made no sense and the worst thing i could do was drive on a strut in need of replacement. The man at Girards shared his diagnosis in a tone of disgust and "you didn't get done what you should" a sign of the classic "shame the unknowing woman into purchasing more work/parts for the car". I don't trust them, I won't go back to them.
Description of Work: I had brakes and control assembly replaced. Within 2 years the after market part, control assembly, again needed replacing.

 + -1 moreWe have been customers at Girard's for twelve (12) years. They have worked on all of our cars, some of which have long since been retired. We have always been extremely happy with the level of workmanship as well as honesty. We have, with new car purchases, taken our cars to the "Dealership" and priced out work and then gone to Girard's and they were always the better price and we feel the better job. We would highly recommend them for any type of work.

 + -1 moreThis place don't want small job and make small replace to look BIG. SO, you end up with BIG $$$ to pay.
Description of Work: My left front tire is wet with brake fluid. I know I needed a new front brake host. But it is cold outside. So, I take my van to Girard's Service Center and told them I needed to replace a front brake host. It is a small job take not more than 0.5 hour to replace a host and bleeding brake line. I need my van to go to work. After I wait for almost 2 hours. The manager want me to leave my van over night. I got my friend to pick me up. I came back the next day and got a big surprise. A manager give me an estimate of $246.20 ....!!!!!! It is for ... a new front brake pads and rotors ... and .. a new front brake host ...!!!! What do I need front pads and rotors for? Then I ask them just to replace " a front brake host " only. They said ..." NO ". They have to do all or nothing. This is a scam. If I did not know about car I would get scam very easy. In the end they insist that I have to pay $25 for checking .... What ...???? So, I paid $25 and take my van to the auto repair in the southside. This great auto repair shop replace a front brake host for $42 including parts & labor. I know a brake host cost about $11 , but it is difficult to bleeding brake line in your home garage. So, that is how ..ALL F .. for this garage.

 + -1 moreI have a very old car that I love, so I have become professional friends with Girard's. I have been using them for such a long time and I think they are totally awesome. What I like about them is that, when I need the car I can usually get it the same day or the next day for sure. They are just so professional. Before they do anything to the car they let you know. If you go in for a routine gas or oil check, they will come right out and they will say exactly what needs to be done. Which I think most of them do right now but they are especially nice about whether I want to do it then, bring it back or think about it and that kind of thing, if there is a repair that needs to be done. Their pricing is very reasonable. I have had minor things to be done and the bill came to $91.

 + -1 moreI called the night before and set up the appt. I arrived with the car about 9:30am on Thursday. They gave me a ride home which is a really nice service. After a few hours, Dennis called to give me his report on the condition of the car and tires. He seems very knowledgable and can explain things in an easy understandable way. He was courteous and professional. In about 2 hours I got a ride to pick up the car. I had a couple more questions, so the clerk asked Dennis to come out to address these questions. Again, Dennis was very helpful and gave very satisfactory explanations.
Description of Work: Our 2003 Protega needed an oil change and tire rotation AND a check over for any safety issues. We don't plan on keeping this car for more than a few months before replacing it. But I needed to make sure it was safe enought to drive (our son has been using it at College). Dennis was very helpful in explaining all the issues with the car and how it really is not worth replacing certain parts to give a better ride, or the oil burn off (engine issue), or the front right caliber---but to watch the brakes, listen for a grinding noise and/or squeeking, and fix then since that would be a $400 job. Best to replace the car and put the $4000.00 that it would take to take care of all the prominent issues into a newer used or new car. I was already thinking this way, but it is so nice to have this confirmed by the car serviceman AND not get ripped off instead. I was very satisfied with GIRARD'S AUTO SERVICE.

 + -1 moreI think they are absolutely incredibly honest. They have done an outstanding job with analyzing things and giving information back to me as a customer. The one time they charged me $130.00 was for something that they literally spent the whole day on analyzing, and then did a minor change. They could have replaced the parts on my Mazda. They spent the whole day and there was a minor repair with that as well. They were able clean and use the same parts instead of soaking me for $400.00 or $500.00 for brand new parts. They were able to fix it and repair it. They kept the car the whole day to make sure it worked well and there were no problems. The mechanics are good. Paul, the general manager, is the one who always called me and talked to me about the cars themselves. He is very thorough and explains everything. They do a great job. They are very competitively priced too. They don't seem to want to take you for every nickel and dime. It's hard to find a mechanic you can trust.
Description of Work: I took my vehicle to Girard's Service Center on Rawson Avenue about 4 weeks ago. There were some ignition sensors on my Mazda that they took care of. They repaired a gas line that was leaking and some other things as well. I had quite a bit of work done at the beginning of the year.

 + -1 moreI am very happy with them. They are very reliable and they stand by what they do. I had a service that didn't turn out quite right and they fixed it right away. Sometimes things don't go 100 percent perfect but as long as they are willing to fix it I am happy. That was the only time that has happened with them. That repair was around $900 for an intake gasket. Normally for a routine oil change and tire rotation it is around $30. They are friendly and they stand behind their repair work. I've been going there for years. They are efficient and they are competitive price wise. I will absolutely use them in the future.

 + -1 moreMechanic guessed the clutch was bad on compressor. He installed new one. Two weeks later my daughter tried to use it and it did not work. Took it to another garage they replaced the compressor and air worked. In the last year I have taken classes to repair auto air conditioners and my impression is that the mechanic that worked on my car did not know how to diagnose air conditioner problems.
