Girard's Service Center

In summer of 2019 I needed my brakes replaced. I'd had basic maintenance work done before and they do fine work. When I paid $460 for my rear brakes, they offered me a lifetime warranty that, they said, would allow me to get brake work done for ONLY the cost of labor. Great! sign me up. Fast forward to September 2020. Front brakes needed work, so I took my car in, and they said it would cost me $460. What about my warranty? Oh, I only bought a warranty for my rear brakes! Despite the fact that they told me otherwise, I decided not to give them my business anymore because this was dishonest and frankly, bad business. So, I learned how to do brakes myself because $500 is totally outrageous. btw It cost me $70 just to find out why my AC wasn't working. To be fair they're really nice there, and they do good work. But I don't think their prices are justified.

The service was very good. The workers were very good. They guy that runs the place is very knowledgeable and accommodating. He actually even had done things like telling me that I do not need a service and do not need to spend that much money. I always like to hear that. The work was done very promptly. The quality of their repair work stands out. I never had a problem.

The job was much more complicated and costly than expected.   Girard's had to do a lot of extra work to replace this part, but they never told me how complicated replacing this part would be.   I feel that they have betrayed my trust and will never go back to them.  They should have contacted me before making the repair.

Also, after the fix, I could not open my hood because of a faulty repair on their part.  After it was supposedly fixed, two service technicians had to work on the under hood latch so I could open the hood.  Very unprofessional.    

They have never steered me wrong or made me feel like I got ripped off.

So far, they have been okay. They are a little pricey but they seemed competent. They looked for the real problem and just fixed that instead of coming up with the big list of things to do. Their qual is convenient if I need a ride home. They seemed to be able to get in me real quick. I haven’t had any problem in getting my vehicle done.

They are excellent, on time, honest, and very pleasant to work with.  I have always been using them and will continue to do so.

I have been going to Girards for oil changes since I bought my car ten years ago. As others said they never try and push me into expensive repairs. Once I was told that the belts were getting worn and they would check again at next oil change. Another time I was told my transmission fluid was dirty. But they never pushed me to get the work done. I came back after making my own decision to do the repairs after consulting my owners manual. Once I brought my car in when it was making a horrible noise. It turned out to be the front brakes and they replaced them same day. They said my back brakes would be good for awhile. I feel that they are honest and their prices are fair. I often hear them asking people if they need a ride home. I also like the reward points. I am unemployed right now and need to drive my older car for awhile longer so I was glad that I could use my reward points to get a free tire rotation or I probably would not have had that done until much later and it was already overdue. It is the Girards at the South Milwaukee location that I go to.

Dennis was very thorough on checking my vehicle and explained what I needed done and did not push the issue of brakes as I could of waited. But I decided to have them done now.

I have been using Girard's for 10 years and have been extremely satisfied with their work. I trust them completely. I have a 2002 Ford Taurus and it has 190,000 miles on it. I believe that I have almost re-built that car from the ground up over the last 11 years! Numerous times Girard's told me that the problem was not as bad as I expected. I have never  found them trying to talk me into something more expensive. They use quality parts that are warranted for life and I have driven my car for so many miles that they have replaced expensive parts (like a water pump) more than once and the part was free, I just paid for labor. Paul, their service writer has more knowledge about cars than anyone I have ever encountered in this field. They have a points system where you can cash in points for services. Recently I used $78 worth of points to pay for part of the new tires that I purchased. They also remember your wedding anniversary and you can pick up two free movie tickets. A nice touch. I highly recommend them.

As a woman, I appreciated this because I would not have known otherwise. They also gave me an estimate on a service I may need in the future. I found their ethical behavior very refreshing.

After the work was completed i was told "i don't know who does your oil changes but they failed to grease the bearing and now you need two new struts" ($1000).  I asked if i could drive on it and was told yes it will just be noisy.  After sharing this all with a mechanic who WASN'T trying to part me with my money, i learned the comments were incorrect/made no sense and the worst thing i could do was drive on a strut in need of replacement.  The man at Girards shared his diagnosis  in a tone of disgust and "you didn't get done what you should" a sign of the classic "shame the unknowing woman into purchasing more work/parts for the car".  I don't trust them,  I won't go back to them.

We have been customers at Girard's for twelve (12) years.  They have worked on all of our cars, some of which have long since been retired.  We have always been extremely happy with the level of workmanship as well as honesty.  We have, with new car purchases, taken our cars to the "Dealership" and priced out work and then gone to Girard's and they were always the better price and we feel the better job.  We would highly recommend them for any type of work.

They do good work. 

I have a very old car that I love, so I have become professional friends with Girard's. I have been using them for such a long time and I think they are totally awesome. What I like about them is that, when I need the car I can usually get it the same day or the next day for sure. They are just so professional. Before they do anything to the car they let you know. If you go in for a routine gas or oil check, they will come right out and they will say exactly what needs to be done. Which I think most of them do right now but they are especially nice about whether I want to do it then, bring it back or think about it and that kind of thing, if there is a repair that needs to be done. Their pricing is very reasonable. I have had minor things to be done and the bill came to $91.
