I sold a couch thru Craig's List and the buyer (also an Angie's List user) hired the services of V Street Movers to come pick up the couch for delivery (she left a review). Although very polite and courteous, the two movers did fairly extensive damage of our basement door frame while moving the sectional couch. This was my first clue that they weren't all that professional, because just days earlier, a moving company had delivered the same couch and moved it into the same basement without any issues at all (we had just moved in less than a few weeks prior).
I watched them the entire time, and tried to warn them as they attempted to jam the couch thru the doorway, obviously creating damage as they attempted to do so. Before they left, we notified the owner of the company, who said he would call us to fix the problem.  Of course, that didn't happen, and we had to contact him after waiting a few weeks. We simply asked that they come evaluate and fix or compensate for the damages. After sending photos, the reply by the owner was very nonchalant and somewhat dismissive. He said he would "send someone out to fix it."
This was several weeks ago and there has been no effort on his part to actually send someone out or contact us further, so we have given up and don't expect further action. I suspect that if we had told him we were AL users and would leave a review of the experience, we may have a little more attention to the problem, but I thought I would simply stand by and see if this company would fix the issue in a reasonable amount of time, or at least act somewhat concerned.  Since that doesn't seem to be the case, I can only hope to save someone else the trouble of using this company if they think the job will require any skill at all. While I'm sure they have performed many moves without incident, all I can say is that you should hope to not be one of the unlucky ones who have to deal with them should they damage your home- they will not respond unless you constantly stay on top of them, and even with that, we are still waiting on them to fix the damages they left behind. It pains me to leave a negative review, but I think it is the only way to make them better for other AL users.

The actual moving went very well for me--we agreed on a date and time with the seller and later, when the seller knew he couldn't be there at the scheduled time, made new arrangements. When I said I wouldn't be home at that time, they said there was no problem, they would pick up the furniture and hold it until I got home.
They were prompt and efficient, and negotiated the cramped entryway very carefully. They removed the plastic wrap they had put around the furniture and replaced the existing furniture that they had moved to allow them unimpeded access to my apartment. Everyone I spoke to was unfailingly courteous.
However, there are two caveats:
First, the company's communications are abysmal. They never returned phone calls or emails, even when I called twice and specifically requested a reply. The day before they delivered my furniture, they told me to call them to let them know when I was home (see above). I did, leaving a message. A couple of hours later they called again, asking me whether I was home and if they could deliver the furniture. In other words, the men doing the moving were never told about the message I'd left a couple of hours previously. I wonder whether the office staff even got it. When I used them in January, I had exactly the same experience. It's extremely annoying and unprofessional of them.
Second, the man who sold me the furniture told me that the movers had "bashed [his] door frame pretty good" when they removed one piece. He told the owner he expected the company to pay for repairs and that they were "following up."
I would use them again only if I couldn't find another, reputable company to do the work.

V Street Movers provided great service and were exceedingly gracious and professional. We called for an estimate and got a call back the same day. Their estimate came in significantly under estimates we had received from other movers. Others charge either a high flat fee or required a minimum number of hours, but V Street charged an hourly rate, which was good for us since we were only moving a small apartment a few miles away. On the day of the move, they called ahead to say that they were going to arrive at our apartment a little early, and got to work right away. We weren't quite packed, and they helped us finish up as much as they could. Aside from our many boxes, they moved our big screen tv, an upright piano, sofa, and bedroom and dining room furniture. When we got to the house, they unloaded quickly, and there was no damage or scratches to anything that they moved, or to the floors or walls. They charged us only for the four hours of work that they had initially estimated, even though they had arrived early, and the move had taken about 5.5 hours total. Also, I accidentally left my passport in a dresser, and it fell out in the truck during the move. They called that evening to let me know, and delivered it to my house the following day. Overall, we had an excellent experience and would definitely recommend V Street Movers.

I got to the office early -- the movers already were there. They had all the packing materials needed. We discussed what was going where and they organized how to pack the truck. Whenever they had questions the asked! The movers were courteous and professional at all times. We made the first drop off and they worked quickly and efficiently -- even when they had to remove a door to get the furniture in. When we got to DC they quickly unloaded and placed the book cases and boxes -- again, asking questions whenever they had them. (I so like that!) The whole job was done in 2-1/2 hours. (I thought it would take closer to 3-1/2 or 4.) These gentlemen really cared about me and my possessions and treated everyone and everthing with great respect. I am amazed and will certainly use them again.
