This was the worst experience I have had with a service provider --- made even worse due to being an offer promoted to us by Angie's List. I purchased $400 worth of tree service to include cutting, branch removal, pruning, debris removal. The promo said that Got Stumps served North King and South Snohomish counties ? exactly where I live. The promotion made no mention that the customer had to pay for driving time (nor would that have been expected being in the listed service area.) No mention was made that we had to pay for a four-man crew whether needed or not. I sent three emails trying to contact Henry Miller , owner of Got Stumps and it took three weeks to get a call back. When I asked how much work time $400 of service would give me, the owner said 1 hour 15 minutes. I said that didn?t seem like very much for the money. He replied they had ?hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment? and their four-man crew could come in and accomplish a lot. He also said I did not have the option of using a smaller crew and part of the cost had to pay for drive time. I understood that the 1 hour and 15 minutes of work time was what was left after allowing for any drive time costs. The crew came at the time and date they selected. They were on our property for 19 minutes. and left. It took 15 minutes for one worker to cut a 25-foot tree trunk into sections, another worker held a rope and moved some pieces of cut wood. The other two workers stood did nothing at all. Removing as much debris and branches as time allowed was to be part of the service. The workers said the pile of branches in our back yard and not close enough to the chipper so they refused to do that work. We have had other tree services do this work in the past without any problem whatsoever. Because we were paying for a four-person crew, my wife asked if they would prune some fruit trees. They refused to do any other work. When I complained to the owner, he then said the drive time came out of the hour and 15 minutes the understood they would be working in our yard. He claimed his workers had been at our house for 40 minutes. --even though we had watched and timed their stay at 19 minutes. To summarize ? for $400, We got about 5 minutes of actual work per man. For that price I have received 8 hours of actual work from a certified arborist in the past. I believe this offer was nothing more than a way to get on our property and charge for more services. When we only wanted what we had paid for, the crew did as little as they thought they could get away with.
Description of Work: Tree trunk cutting and very little else.

Response from Got Stumps?
Unfortunately, you can't force people to be truthful. I bent over backwards to try to satisfy this customer...I offered every remedy that a business owner can...He seemed determined to try to damage my company's reputation...We do the very best we can to satisfy every one of our valuable customers. I will have to let my multiple Super Service Awards and A Rating speak for the integrity of our business.

I purchased a deal through Angie's List for two hours work knowing I had much more than that to be done. Shelby, the crew supervisor assessed the work to be done and gave me the bid to do everything I wanted. The crew got started and worked straight through until they were done. My next big job involves fencing the backyard, so I've contacted them to come back out to grind the rhody stumps left after cutting them down.
Description of Work: They pruned four fruit trees and cut down about 16 rhodies along a fence line.

Henry was right on the spot contacting us and finding a time to do the work. We purchased the service on an Angie's List Deal, but the scope of the work we wanted done was, not surprisingly, more than the deal covered. Still, we negotiated a very fair price for what they did above and beyond the Deal. The crew was very prompt, polite and professional. We are very happy to have the jungle under control and the maples showing off their beautiful branch structure. We will be sure to call them back next spring to do some additional fine tuning and keep things under control.
Description of Work: They cleared up, pruned and trimmed an overgrown jungle of box woods, rhodedendrons, miscl bushes and vine maples. Also pruned and shaped 2 Japanese Red Maples.

That was easy, so they also cut off dead limbs our front, and some limbs touching my roof. Hauled off debris, didn't break anything or leave anything amiss. On time, easy to talk to and figure out what to do, very nice.

We purchased a $199 for $400 worth of tree service through Angie's List, on special, with Got Stumps? service. They emailed us promptly through Angie's List asking for available times. I replied and waited. And waited. After a week I replied again through Angie's List email. Waited another week. Finally I used the email contact form on their website to send them a note of complaint. I received a call about an hour and a half later. The man on the phone said he just happened to be going through our file and noticed we were available that day, and scheduled a time for his guys to come out. No mention of the repeated emails. On the phone this contact said the guys were going to be out with their equipment in the area so it made sense for them to come by our place; he also mentioned that it was "possible" the service would cost more than the $400 worth we bought through Angie's List. This was not our understanding of the deal we bought, but I agreed because the trees did need trimming and he insisted the deal was still excellent because the guys were out with their trucks, etc, already. The men came out and immediately told me the two trees in the backyard were way more than $400 worth of work. More like $800. I'm not an expert on tree limb removal but that seemed steep and also like a scam. When I balked this man immediately dropped $100 off and said he could knock tax off if we paid cash. Again: I'm not an expert on tree limb removal. But I was aware that there were a few limbs that did need to come down (e.g. over the neighbor's yard and dead-looking, one over our deck). I finally agreed. This is now $499 that we're being asked to pay when we signed up for the $199 Angie's List 'deal'. The job took less than 45 minutes. Men walked around our yard with leaf blowers and cigarettes dangling from their lips. They did a solid job on the few limbs they did cut down - I will give them that much. But, again, less than 45 minutes for "an $800 job, at least". When I went to pay with a check, the lead guy told me it really had to be cash to knock the tax off otherwise the government will know he got the money. I was thinking like you do at a car dealership (where they say "cash" and mean "check rather than credit"). I felt this was fishy as well but wrote the check (with tax added) because the service was performed and, again, I'm not a tree limb removal expert and I had agreed beforehand. The men took their equipment and left. Most of it. They left a bin with a few twigs and branches in it in the backyard, in plain view. I pulled it over to the side of the garage and sent them an email (via the contact form on their website) asking them to come get it. The bin was gone the next day but I received no apology or email (even so much as a "Thanks for letting us know we left some of our property on your property"). Poor customer service. Possible scam where they charge you extra because you used the Angie's List 'deal.' I recommend you do NOT purchase the Angie's List deal for this business when and if it comes around again.

Started with AL coupon for $400 worth of service for $200. I had gotten a quote from other tree services but when I saw the coupon I figured I could at least get some of my trees done at a pretty good discount. Scheduling was done over the phone and went pretty easy. I discussed potential work with the owner's son when he arrived. We agreed to do the Thundercloud plumbs and apply the discount to this work. I had a competing bid and he agreed to meet it. The owner showed up later and we discussed additional work they could do at a good price since his truck and crew was already on site. Overall, they did the work quickly and didn't leave a mess. Turns out price wise, I think the first bid I got was actually a bit better on but not significantly. The trees were pretty wild so the pruning job took a bit of effort and the team did a pretty good job shaping up most of the trees. I did ask for an additional quote for another section of arbor vitae hedge and they didn't get back to me - I think it might have been too small of a remaining item and they really didn't want to come back with a special truck ( I think they rent it for hedge trimming at that height ). Overall no complaints - also nothing special.
Description of Work: Leveled a arbor vitae hedge ( 100+ feet long ), pruned 12 thundercloud plumb trees, pruned 6 mock cherry trees, pruned 5 white birch trees.

Henry came out late day to accommodate our schedule to provide an estimate to clear a portion of our hilly yard of trees that had been downed for a very long time. We are planning to landscape in these areas and the trees are much too large for us as homeowners to handle removing and disposing of. The area to be cleared of tree debris was subject to interpretation of Henry's hand pointing and gestures of where the clearing would start and where it would end. Unfortunately, an area or removal was missed that we intended for him to remove debris from. We did not notice this until daylight on the weekend after the work was completed when we could thoroughly inspect what had been done by Henry's team. We brought this to Henry's attention as prompt as we could the next business day and he came out to our home to re-inspect. He advised the area was not in the parameters of what we had agreed to. I recommend if you use this company to physically count the number of trees and have Henry document in the "contract" exactly which trees are to be serviced/removed , so there is no room for miscommunication of what the expectations are for the quoted price. We were disappointed further when Henry would not even offer to meet us half way and remove some of the tree debris, he quoted a new price to remove these trees and then was on his way. Poor customer service and apparently he is not too concerned with repeat business and building relationships with his customers. His team was on time, however, and did do a good job of removing and disposing of the trees that they did address, and leaving our yard afterwards with a minimal footprint.

We noticed one of our tall firs leaning and called Got Stumps. I called them on Sunday and Henry Miller came out on Monday to check out the situation and give us a bid. We have a tree covered acre with many trees requiring some attention. We had some trees topped back in the 80's and now these trees are tall and dangerous with huge branches that look like new trunks growing out the top. With the help of Henry Miller's expertise, we decided what trees should take priority and then scheduled the work for the very next day since the leaning tree posed a threat. I believe it is important to explain that over the nearly 40 years we have lived here, we have never had much luck with the different tree services we have tried. This is one reason we have held off getting some tree work done. When we noticed a tree leaning we knew we could wait no longer so I called a neighbor who had tree work done several months ago and asked who she would recommend. She had nothing but praise for Got Stumps and now I know why. Henry Miller and his crew are all professional, friendly, hard working individuals. They did an amazing job for us cutting down trees that were not easy trees to take down for various reasons. They cleaned everything up and were careful not to harm special plants and bird feeders. The cost was very reasonable to us considering the time spent and the complexity of the work done. We will definitely have Got Stumps back to do more tree work for us. Excellent work!
Description of Work: Got Stumps removed 2 extra large fir trees, 2 very tall skinny firs (one leaning) 1 medium fir. They removed dead branches from 2 large firs, removed some large sharp holly and pruned back a large vine maple.

When I find a trustworthy business person I want to tell others. I'm pleased that Angie's List gives me the opportunity to do this. Mr. Miller came yesterday to assess the work that needed to be done and offered me a fair price to cut down five fir trees and one cedar tree. His crew arrived this morning on time. The trees were down, cut into rounds and everything cleaned up in no time. The young men on the crew were very courteous and respectful of me and my property. I wish I had taken a video of the climber. He cut the branches as he was climbing up and cut the tree trunk as he was coming down. The branches were chipped and will provide good mulch for my garden.

Crew arrived at stated time. Trees were located on steep slope between street and driveway which made the work quite difficult. . Crew protected both street and driveway from any damage. The area was totally cleamed up after the work was completed. The tree that was removed was cut into rounds of specified length and were neatly stacked along side of roadway for my later disposal. The work was performed in a very professional manner.

The company arrived with a full crew and a truck and crane. They took care of our immediate concerns and offered to take down two nearly dead trees for a cash price of $575.00 as well as cut out a stray branch in a fuller tree.....a maple growing through a bay laurel. They were careful and cleaned up well, leaving the downed trees cut into large pieces as agreed upon. They were polite, responsible, and enterprising.

Henry was prompt, courteous & squeezed us right into his schedule. What they did was a joy to watch! Very impressed with the way his team all works together, efficient, cleaned up constantly, even some leaves that got into my neighbors yard they cleaned up without anyone saying a word. Robert, Taylor, Shelby, and another gentlemen...They all worked diligently, straight through from practically 7:45 am - 3 pm, nonstop. I recommend always checking on a multi-task job and I was glad I did, because I saw the need to additionally remove another tree in the backyard, and Shelby was terrific explaining his perspective & recommendation and was willing to do whatever I would like. Even though they had finished the backyard, they quickly implemented my new request, cut the tree down and re-cleaned beautifully. Excited to have gotten our permit from the city to remove our Fir tree, they were about to grind the stump but questioned whether we knew the location of all our underground utilities. We figured that was already considered by the city, but NOT necessarily they said. Thank you!! They were gracious and cautious, concerned about the repercussions if we went forward without knowing. (So, they requested an urgent utility locator to come out & mark the lawn for all.) Fortunately, we already had checked this some years before, and were pretty confident they could go ahead and so they did on our request. (Locator still came out - bonus!) Great job also in grinding around some plants/bushes with little damage! Amazing. Very pleased!
Description of Work: We originally asked to remove 1-90 ft Douglas Fir, then grind the stump plus 2 other small stumps, & trim up the canopy on another Fir. Optional was to prune back a bunch of Leland Cypress encroaching into our backyard from a neighboring housing complex. What we got was ALL of the above PLUS additionally removed 2 small trees & stumps because they were being swallowed up by the cypress tree AND they even stopped working, for safety and thought to have our cities utilities marked to make sure they didn't tear into the power, water or gas while removing a stump! What they did was offer incredible service, efficient, went above and beyond what was expected, very fairly adjusted the price with the changes.

The team that removed the tree was incredible. They were on time, did a great job and were a real nice crew. We had an approximately 6-man logging crew at our house for 3 days removing 5 huge trees (4 locusts and 1 maple with multiple trunks) ... and we do mean HUGE!! We live in the woods and found even more hazardous trees needing removal. One of the best things about working with this company is that, if you don't want all that wood to deal with, they have a guy that can come pick it up. Shelby's younger brother, Noah, pitched in and had a chance to practice scaling trees and communing with God. After the wood was gone, they did a terrific job of cleaning up the site. Of further note: They also trimmed bushes and plants in order to be able to lower the cut tree sections without destroying our garden! Would we hire them again? YEP! ALREADY DID! They'll be back next week!! 98296
Description of Work: Henry Miller, the owner, responded promptly, and was a pleasure to deal with, as was his son, Shelby, the foreman of the crew. This job involved removal of 4 locust trees and one maple with multiple trunks, wood removal and clean-up.

We had communication issues with this provider, and ultimately decided to use another contractor. After quite a bit of phone tag, the owner came over and gave us an estimate on raising the canopy on two of our trees and pruning one juniper bush. He asked if it were possible to maybe do the work the following day when his crews might be in the area. We told him yes - but we would need to know that evening as we have large dogs and a locked gate to our yard, and would need to make arrangements to leave the gate unlocked and the dogs indoors or at daycare if they were coming over while we were at work. He said he'd try and call us by 9pm that night to let us know for sure. We never received a call of any kind after that. After a week went by with no further communication, we had another contractor out for a bid, who was able to match their price and give us an exact date and time for the work so we could plan ahead. The following week, I get a voice mail during my workday from Got Stumps, saying that they couldn't remember if we had to do something with our dogs or not, but can they come over.....right now? And since I wasn't answering my cell phone during working hours, they were just going to hope it was OK and send the crew over to my house. I then received a 2nd voicemail from the crew telling me they were outside my house looking at my dogs in the back yard, and hoped I'd be home soon. I phoned them back and told them no, I can't leave work without notice, and I wasn't appreciative of them coming over without notice, either. Strangers parked outside our house make the dogs bark, and my neighbors aren't too keen on that. They apologized. I received two more calls from them that didn't leave a voice mail over the next few days, although we had already told them very frankly that we were going with a contractor that was able to offer better scheduling and communication.
