The estimate was clear, complete, reflecting all of my requests and enough technical detail that the work crew could refer to. The company worked with the city with regard to permits and licensing. The work was completed in a timely and efficiently manner. The quality is to code, the crew cleaned up the work site at the end of each work day and the price was the most competitive. We are very impressed!
Description of Work: Replaced existing 120 year old pillars post foundation members along weight bearing beam with poured, reinforced concrete footings. Replaced posts and secured post to footing beams. Excavated dirt from front of house crawl space to assure 24 inch access height.

The workers were very diligent and completed our job in a timely manner. For the most part they were also knowledgeable about their work. The quality of the finished job is high and overall the experience was very good. However, as previous reviewers have mentioned, if you have a question or concern you may have an issue because of the language barrier. For example, there were some old strips of wood attached to the concrete wall which the previous owner had used in order to attach paneling. A few were long and were bound to hang into the newly poured concrete. My husband had a hard time making the crew understand that he wanted those either trimmed or pulled off the wall entirely.
Description of Work: We had a French drain and secondary sump installed in our basement. We had a new cover placed over the original sump pump.

Wu Construction is excellent -- fairly priced, knowledgeable, efficient, diligent, conscientious, experienced. Avoid the plumbers; go directly to Wu. I give them the very highest recommendation. I learned that my crawl space was flooded. All the gutter drains off the roof were pouring into my crawl space, and I live at the end of a cul-de-sac with everyone else's house pitched to flow into my yard. I went into the crawl space and pulled out the broken sump pump. I ordered a new one from Amazon and called a plumber to install it - to drain the crawl space immediately. They wanted $1300 to install the sump pump I had already purchased, saying that the well wasn't up to code (turned out not to be true) and it needed to be calibrated, etc. They said they would charge $2000 if they had provided the sump pump. I knew I needed to build an external storm sewer drainage system to help with the overload, so I decided to see if Wu Construction would install the sump pump as well. Dave Maples, the Wu estimator, came and explained everything. He discussed my situation and the possible options. He spent a lot of time with my questions and was knowledgeable and informative. He said Wu would install the sump pump for $300 and build the external drainage and dry well -- three pvc pipes off three gutter downspouts into a constructed dry well. The work was excellent. The crew came on time, worked efficiently, but completed a conscientious and professional job. They were tidy and hard working. Completely professional. I could tell they wanted to do a thorough and excellent job. Avoid the plumbers. The Wu team is knowledgeable and experienced, and their pricing is so reasonable. Their bids are excellent, but there is no cutting corners on quality, craftsmanship, or materials. I give them the very highest recommendation possible.
Description of Work: Replaced broken sump pump, drained flooded crawl space, extended down spouts off house (which had been emptying into the crawl space) through trenches to dry well built in backyard.

We saw water on one of the walls in our crawlspace, and Dave from Wu Construction came by for an inspection. After carefully examining the wall, Dave told us that there was no damage to the foundation, no damage to the wall, ground was dry, and the all the wood pieces that supports the house were in great condition. I was in the crawlspace with him when he explained that to me and pointed at each items as he spoke. Dave also walked around the house and explained the cause of water coming in to our crawlspace and told me the best ways to stop and prevent it from recurring. He left without charging us and gave me an impression of a straight and honest man. Will definitely invite him back if I have any other foundation inspection needs.

Estimate- Quick, on time, professional but VERY friendly. Estimate was well within the range we expected to pay. Scheduling was quick. Workers arrived within the half hour time frame scheduled. Work was done quickly to our satisfaction. Workers cleaned all debris. Trench through the yard was barely visible. Extremely pleased. Will definately use WU when we are ready to do our secondary crawlspace.

The details on the proposal turned out to be insufficiently accurate to inform the work crew. For example, from my conversation with Dave (the owner/estimator), I had understood that a large catch basin would be installed in the exterior stairway landing. The foreman (Joe) disputed that, and installed a very small basin instead. As another example, the diagram provided with the proposal clearly indicated that an auxiliary trench would run parallel to a nearby stub wall, but several inches away from it, so it could intersect an existing floor drain. However, they ran the trench right up against the wall instead! When I complained about this, they expanded the trench so it would intersect the drain. This left me feeling uncertain about whether this impromptu re-engineering of the system would allow it to perform as intended. The team consisted of Joe (the Foreman), who usually seemed to know what he was doing, and an additional 2-4 guys whose specialized knowledge ranged from virtually nothing (3 of the Spanish-only speaking guys) to very skilled but impossible to communicate with (1 Chinese guy). I had to watch most of the Spanish guys very closely to keep them out of trouble, especially when Joe would have to leave for some time to visit another job far away. Here's an example. The clean-out plug in my cast-iron sewage stack was stuck, so Joe cranked a big wrench on it in the hope of freeing it, but the "nut" portion broke off, leaving a round, flat plate with a hole in the middle. Once the crew noticed that a large sledge-hammer was present in the work area, it became clear that they couldn't wait to whack that plate with the big hammer, which might have damaged that ancient sewer stack severely, I feared. Luckily, I was able to guess their plan and hide the hammer (which was mine). To complete the story of the broken clean-out plug, the "smart" Mexican guy (who appeared to be the manager of the other Spanish speaking guys at least, when he was on-site) eventually used a sawzall to cut pie-shaped pieces out of the stuck plug, which left the hole seeping sewage, but well prepared for a new plug. Near the end of the first day of work (which has intended to be the LAST day too!), when quitting time came around the ruined cleanout plug had still not been replaced, so I was left to improvise a repair to prevent additional sewage from leaking onto the floor. This effort cost me trips to 2 stores and about $20 dollars in gas and parts, and 3 hours of my time! On the second (and last) day of the project, a very small crew (one old Japanese man, young "Mexican" (Ecuadorean?), and for a while near the end, Joe, wrapped things up, which included finishing the surface of the fresh concrete (done with great care and skill by the Japanese guy), and running drain pipe across the backyard. I was pleased with the outcome of the first, and disturbed by the handling of the second, because once again the path the pipeline actually took was considerably different from the path specified on the plans drawn up by Dave. On this day, Joe did me some favors that I felt compensated me for some of the troubles of the previous day. That was nice, but I would have been happier with a crew that acted much more professionally throughout the process instead. I learned early on that I would have to keep a close eye on this crew and ask a lot of questions to keep them on track. That's not the kind of customer/service-provider relationship I was looking for! After they left, I discovered a they hadn't cleaned up very well, since I found lumps of (now cured) concrete at various places in my front and back yards. This did not surprise me.
Description of Work: Remove concrete from floor around interior perimeter of basement, dig trenches, and install perforated pipes. Install sump pump in one corner, and run a pipe across backyard to drain into alley. Reseal floor with new concrete mix.

Dave Maple (Wu Construction Estimator) came out to inspect my issues on 10/15. He was knowledgable and quick and pretty much nailed it right on the head! (I'd had another drainage specialist out a few days earlier who came to the same determinations as Dave, and had provided me with an estimate a day later that was pretty outrageous.). Dave was able to provide me with an on-the-spot FIRM estimate that was fair and reasonable. Based on the estimate (which was fair), and Wu Construction's GREAT Angie's list rating, I scheduled the job right then and there with Dave. Wu was in promptly a few days later to do the work (on 10/18). Kent and his crew (about 5 guys) showed up as promised, FIRST THING in the morning. I have to say, this guys were quick, neat and quiet. I was SCARED to death to have this work done as the ONLY ACCESS to my crawl space was into the house, through my bedroom and then into the access panel that is located in my master bedroom closet. The guys immediately put down plastic on the floor, and made sure that they kept to that area. The mess was really minimal. These guys worked like demons...they had to remove OLD vapor barrier and debris, yard in pipe and lots of drain rock. UNBELIEVABLY they accomplished the entire job in one day, and they did a FANTASTIC JOB! Did I mention that Wu has been in business for 30 years and provided me with a one year warranty (standard) on the Zoeller pump, and a 25 year warranty on the work they did?!? I feel very satisifed and secure. ANOTHER BONUS with Wu Construction (that Dave pointed out) is they started the job with ZERO DOWN, and although I opted to pay immediately for the work, they will also wait to be paid in ESCROW CLOSING if you are selling your house! Anyway, at the conclusion of this project, the Office Manager Thomas Wang provided me with a detailed invoice (marked paid in full) via email. What a GREAT BUNCH OF GUYS! Thanks so much for your help.

I am a real estate broker in West Bellevue and during a sewer scope, as part of a home inspection, an offset/blockage between the cast iron and concrete pipes was discovered. I contacted Wu Construction and Victor Wu, the owner of the company, came out the next day to evaluate. He understood our need for timely diagnosis and repair, due to the tight time frame of the inspection contingency we were working under and said they would begin the work the following morning, which happened to be a Saturday, at 9:30am. By Saturday afternoon, the issues were discovered, conditions corrected, sewer line repaired and an easily accessible sewer clean-out added. Wu showed up right on time for the first evaluation appointment and again on Saturday morning with his crew, who worked steadily and professionally until the work was completed that same day. They were careful to replace my clients beautiful landscaping and were extremely professional, cordial and responsive from my first call to their office, to the completion of the job.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and repaired a sewer line offset/blockage, which was due to an intersecting water line, installed 4-5 years earlier by another company. The water line was rerouted, the offset corrected, sewer line repaired, clean out for easy future access added and finally, the entire line was scoped to ensure the line was clear and free of any further defects. Their work was completed with a 25-year warranty.

SHowed up as expected and got right to work. Team of three got most of the digging done he first day and returned for a few hours each of the next two days to complete the job. Went just as planned and estimated, their price was considerably less than the other bid I got. The quality of their work was just fine. They even asked me part way through if I'd lke it wood lined or not, and when I said yes they went out and bought the wood needed with no additional charge. Gave me a "plug" also so I can turn this drainage off during the summer and let any water that comes keep the lawn green.

Order of Events: Contacted Wu Construction based on category listing and reviews here on Angie's List Filled out web form on Wu Construction website providing detailed information of work needed Spoke with Wu by phone to discuss the work needed Set an appointment out a week and half and took the day off to be onsite for the visit On day of appointment received a call from Wu Construction saying they don't do the type of work my foundation *may* need. Estimator dropped appointment and did not follow through with visit Details: Called Wu Construction to repair a cracked concrete foundation on the side of a basement vinyl window / window well. I filled out a form on their website providing a very detailed description of the work needed. A call was returned by Wu Construction the next business day and the work needed was discussed. An appointment was made for an on-site estimate, which required a 10 day wait due to their workload. Today, the day of the appointment, we receive a phone call from their job estimator (Dave) saying "We don't do that kind of foundation repair..." and "We mostly do foundation crack repair for real estate sale transactions, sounds like you *may* need poured concrete and we don't do that. So you'll to need find somebody else to do the work". Good to know after waiting well over a week for the visit, taking the day off from work for the appointment then have Wu Construction not even bothering to show up and at least look at the job. What exactly was the point of all up front written and verbal description of the foundation problem? I guess Wu Construction is very busy and their time is more valuable then mine? Unprofessional conduct to say the least. Might be time to change your catagory listing here on Angie's List which states: "Wu Construction Inc > Categories: Concrete - Pouring & Repair, Foundation Repair". Conclusion: Disorganized or overbooked company that does not use their own information gathering tools to vet potential jobs. Misleading listing here on Angie's List for work they apparently do not perform. Does not keep appointments as agreed. Extremely poor communication and follow up.

Fantastic. I get so happy when people care and do such good work. Thomas and his crew were quick ,thorough and left basement just as clean as before they did the work. The work was done in about 3 hours and we had thoughtit would take most of the day. They work hard.
Description of Work: Dave came and inspected basement,he took his time to explain why and what caused our problem and how they would go about fixing it. He is a thoughtful man with many years of experience and his knowledge brings several ways to deal with different dilemmas . Dave explained things in a way that I could easily understand and made me feel confident in the companies ability. Three men ,foreman Thomas came as scheduled and we went to basement together so he could show me the work to be done. Replaced a wooden post (6 by6)that had rotted from the ground. Repaired concrete footing so water wood not be in contact with post. Added a second new (6by6) post for good measure to the crawl space. Filled in dip in skim coat concrete .

I selected Wu Construction for three reasons: first, consistently good reviews on Angie's List; second, a professional and forthright recommendation of an appropriate scope of work; and third, competitive pricing that they backed as a firm bid (rather than conditional assessment). On the day of repair, the contractor crew showed up at a reasonable hour. They were professional and expedient in performing all work. In addition to the repairs, they found a clog that had developed since my home purchase, roto-rooted it out and confirmed rapid water flow through the pipes (without impact to the original bid amount); and restored the landscape to excellent condition. Based on these experiences, I would definitely recommend Wu Construction for sewer line repair work.
Description of Work: In the process of buying my home, I had Hydro Physics perform a sewer scope. At that time, they identified the need for a proper cleanout; the misalignment of the cast iron drain coming out of the house and the concrete sewer pipe joining it; and root penetration of some of the concrete pipe farther down the line. After buying the home, I invited multiple contractors to make repair recommendations and bid for the work. Recommendations ranged from as much as installing liners (dig-free repair) to spot repairs at the two trouble spots; pricing ranged from $4k down to about $1600, many being conditional estimates. I finally chose a scope of work of spot repairs: digging up and repairing the connection between concrete and cast iron; installing a cleanout at that location; digging up and repairing six feet of pipe approx 30' away from that first location. All digging was less than 4' depth.

I was concerned about a bend/twist in some of the vertical support pillars in the crawl space below my house. Wu Construction came out, gave me a very thorough explanation of what he saw and looked for. The estimator recommended a couple of minor things that I or any handyman could do and went on his way. Thank you very much for the piece of mind, a totally ethical company. I'd call them again for sure.

Overall, all went well. We enjoyed working with David and his crew; and, there no delays or problems getting the work done.
Description of Work: The wooden framing in the front of the house crawl space needed to be replaced because of severe dry rot. We made an appointment with David. He came to our house at the time specified, made a drawing of what needed to be done, explained the work to be done in detail, and priced it. All aspects of the job initiation were, from start to finish, done smoothly, efficiently and with my complete satisfaction. A few days later David's crew arrived and went to work. First removing all the rotted wood, then they reconstructed the wooden framing, and then thoroughly cleaned the work areas. I was completely satisfied with the way the work was perform and its results. .

Our overall experience was great. Dave, the estimator, was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a thorough walk-through of the two options presented in the quote. The installer, Joe, was very pleasant, professional and fast, switching out the old sump pump in less than 20 minutes. He then went out of his way to try and help us find where the existing sump pump system drained away to. We are very pleased with the service Wu Construction provided us and would highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Wu Construction came out to give an estimate to waterproof our basement. They gave us two estimates, one was to dig a completely new trench system, plus a well and a sump pump. The other was to fix the existing sump pump (which had failed) if we could locate it. Both estimates were reasonable and hundreds less than an equally professional company (also found on Angie's List) that was brought in for a quote. Luckily, after contacting the old owner of the house, we were able to locate the broken sump pump and hired Wu Construction to replace it.

When we moved into our house, a sort of trough had been dug into the concrete floor of the basement as a measure to funnel incoming water (mostly from rain) to the sump pump. This was not a viable solution for us, so upon a recommendation we contacted Wu Construction. They guaranteed us that once they waterproofed our basement, no water would get in. They filled in the trough, lined the entire basement interior with a perimeter drainage system, removed excess debris and dirt from the crawl space and put a tarp down. After a few weeks, during a particularly heavy rain, water did manage to come into the crawl space, so they held true to their guarantee and came back to dig out an exterior drainage trench that would redirect water back out to the street. They always replied promptly in correspondence and held true to their promises.

The owner of Wu Construction, David Maple, came out to bid the job, as scheduled. I had a list of questions which he answered skillfully and in short order. We talked about what the job required and the best way to do it. His bid came shortly after wards. He crew dug and installed a drain in the critical areas needed and installed a sump pump. They did an excellent job, and were in and out in one day. Previously, I had interviewed 4 or 5 other companies who either sent insufficient bids I couldn't read, or weren't clear in their intentions or couldn't find the time to meet. I am a perfectionist and Wu Construction is a dream come true! I would use them on every type of remodeling job if I could. For those reading, you will not find a more honorable, trustworthy man. Some of the other bids, were overly inflated, so on price Wu Construction blows their competition away and they do the exact same job others were bidding. A hard working crew that goes in, works hard getting the job done, leaving the place as clean as they found it. Everything about this company, from the person who schedules appointments and handles the written guarantees is competent. I have remodeled 4 homes, and as a woman I can recount stories I will spare you that were nightmares. This company is one of honor and integrity putting a badly needed humanistic face to the construction trade, earning my highest recommendation A++.

Crew showed up on time and were a hard working bunch, kept area clean during the job. It was raining that day, and they were careful to lay down runners so as not to bring in mud from outside.

They came out twice for estimates as I had changed the scope of work from their initial visit. Prompt with their appointments and with follow up estimate via email. They were able to get us on the schedule very quickly. One full day of work followed by a return 6 days later to remove form work and backfill excavation. They were receptive to feedback though I did feel I had to communicate via email with the office to ensure that what was conveyed to the job site workers was understood. This was due to a language challenge.
Description of Work: We had a full length vertical crack in our foundation (daylight basement). Partial excavation on the exterior, rebar and concrete patch, 3/4 rebar and concrete patch on interior. Time will tell if this does the job of keeping water out. It looks a sound fix at this point.
