Wu Construction

I ended up finding out that the person who sold me the house had covered up a lot of problems in order to get the house on the market. Wu Construction was one of the preferred contracts of by realtor at the time. I had them out to make a number of repairs, which they failed to do. They ended up putting the downspouts on backwards. They ended up just guessing and guessing at what the problem was at not actually solving it. They kept taking more and more money from me. I ended up having to take them to court and it was in deposition that I found out that they have no training program whatsoever for their workers. They just hire them and send them out to people's homes. None of the workers spoke any English and the only person who did was the estimator. He was very nice and I didn't have any clue that I was stepping into the mess that would ensue. I really hope that nobody else has to go through the mess that I did with this company.

They did a fine job. I felt the price was a little high for the amount of work done and the quality, but other contractors came in much higher, so what do I know? After the fact, I felt it was something I could have done myself for a third of the price. Thomas, who works in the office, was helpful in getting everything organized and helping me with some paperwork I had to do since this work was done as part of a renovation loan. The work quality was okay. The crew left some of the useless, old system exposed above ground and didn't really clean up after themselves (the grass was replaced unevenly and they left rocks all over the yard), but when I mentioned this to Thomas, he had them return to clean up a bit at no additional charge, which I appreciate. A few other contractors mentioned to me (during my estimate process): "Wu will come in much lower than us on price, but we'll provide a higher quality product". I think this is probably an accurate sentiment, but, in the end, I was OK with what Wu provided.

I had other providers come and look at my problem with wet crawl space. They give me "Cadillac" plan whether I need it or not. It was about $4,500. Dave from Wu Construction looked at it and noticed that only half of my basement is getting wet so he addressed just that noting that I can always do more later if needed. Also, Dave's cost included having a new Dry Well dug instead of returning the water back to the current well, which I liked. When the crew arrived, I asked to do one other work to re-direct the outside water to the new well and that added $280 which I thought was reasonable. I never said anything about 10% off coupon from Angie's list until the work was done and Invoice was received. They had no problems accepting that coupon which was nice and pretty much paid for the extra work I added last minute. The only thing is that the way they did it is little different from what I saw on the Internet. I thought the gravel should be laid first then the French Drain and then gravel again on the top. They put the French Drain first without the gravel ... I talked to them about it but they assured me it would be fine and 25 year warranty made it okay with me. Let's see how it goes in the winters to come. If I have a problem, I will re-write the review. But, their pricing was A+ to me compared to others. Very reasonable and they worked very hard.

Showed up on schedule and got to work quickly. Did a good job with the installation and also cleaned up after themselves. No more water observed even with record rainfall, our system is working well. Liked that they stand by their work and guaranteed to come back and address any issues after installation. Only concern was some delays in returning calls or emails, but overall they were helpful and did a great job.

I used Wu Construction Inc. I got it from Angie's List. It was across 'A's for drain system that stood out about them. They came and they did the job in the time they said. Whatever they installed has been working, I know that this is a longer term system but so far so good.

Dave came out to review the problem, and proposed a solution. He sketched a plan, and gave an estimate before leaving. About one week later, a crew of 2 men dug a trench, put a pipe in this, connected with 2 downspouts, and created 2 gravel catch basins. From the start, all contacts and work were efficient and prompt. The job cost less than an estimate we had from another company.

Here's the timeline. Estimator comes out on a Thursday. Gives me a bid. I gave him the go ahead and asked when we could get the worked scheduled. He said as "early as tomorrow or even Saturday". I said great! I waited until the following Friday before finally calling back and asking when we were going to be scheduled for the job. The person I spoke with sounded confused but finally found my estimate and said the could do it the following Friday (now going on two weeks later). I said okay. I get a call from Wu the day prior to the scheduled appointment confirming and asking to call if there was any problems. There wasn't. We were planning on this all along. So just like a doctor or dentist, I didn't call them back. I just expected them to hold the appointment. Friday comes. No one shows. My wife finally calls to find out what's up. They said they'd have to call back. almost two hours later and a mostly wasted day, they call and said they were sorry and they'd be out Saturday. It's now Saturday. I called Wu at 10:30 asking when they'd be here. The persons on the phone (possible Wu himself) said we never confirmed on Thursday so they just assumed we didn't want the work performed. Which begs the question -- why did they tell my wife yesterday that they be here today? Anyway, Wu said they'd call me back. That was 90 minutes ago. When they do. Guess what I'm telling them? I get that it's been raining A LOT around here over the last 30 days and they're likely very busy. But seriously, this is just bad organization and poor customer service. UPDATE: Literally five minutes after I submitted this, Mr Wu himself called and apologized for the mixup. They came out on Monday and completed the job. All is well. Still question the organization skills but the work performed is satisfactory. SECOND UPDATE: We noticed after the fact the install crew actually performed work outside what was quoted. The extended a downspout far away from the house. This, and they added a GFI plug in the sump pump tube so overall I'm very pleased with the work. Sometimes "stuff" happens so now that the job is complete I am very satisfied with the work and Mr Wu's response. I would encourage you to use them. Just make sure you communicate well...

It is still working fine. They were prompt and courteous.

I disliked how long they took to bill us, it took them three months to get us the invoice. When they did mail us the invoice, it was certified mail so I had to go to the post office which was a huge pain. I thought overall they did a good job with the work and I thought the price was reasonable but the professionalism was a little bit lacking. They came out and completed a portion of the work and we were under the impression that they would be back in a few days to do the rest of it and they weren't back for quite a while. I finally had to call him so it didn't seem the scheduling was super organized. I think the resulting work was well done. Even though I'm not rating them super high, they weren't terrible. I just thought their service could have been a little bit better.

Mr. Wu was very professional and knowledgeable about what need to be done. I will have him do the work in the future.

The job went very well. I left a lock box so the guys could work while I was working. All the work was completed while I was away. It couldn't have been any easier.

We had to reschedule several times because of the seller, but Wu Construction was very flexible and provided great service.

We called on a Tuesday with a very wet basement floor and Wu Construction sent someone out the next afternoon (another provider said they couldn't come out for nearly 10 days). The owner of the company showed up on time and looked at our problem. He gave us an easy way to assess where the water came from and said that we likely only needed to repair some downspouts. He did not charge us or in any way urge us to do work that was unnecessary. It is really encouraging to have a business owner who's willing to do the right thing when it results in no tangible profit for him. Bravo.

We were selling a rental and the inspection showed water damage in the crawl space. Wu Construction was by far the most responsive when we needed bids done quickly. He not only guaranteed to complete the work by closing but to also make the buyers 100% satisfied with the work completed. It was so nice to have a company to trust this work to and Wu Construction exceeded our expectations in every way.

They knew exactly what was needed, drew out a detailed plan and quote. Scheduling was a breeze and they did all the work in a day. I would highly recommend them for any waterproofing job!

Did not finish part of the job.

The team showed up at 8:30 a.m. and got to work promptly. They were professional, efficient, and clean, hauling away all of the offal from the job. A job I would have expected to take two days, took one. Mid-way through the job, the gentleman who performed the initial bid came and checked on the work and took the time to discuss it with me. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Went great! Major improvement to the home and a fair price.

The representative was very professional and helpful. We had an issue with a cement slab on the bottom floor of our trilevel. It turned out that they were not able to provide the type of service we needed for the cement slab repair, but they were very helpful and knowledgeable.

We had a number of companies come out and talk with us about the water leaking into our basement after hard rains. There were a number of opinions and bids ranging up to $3000. Wu construction gave us an honest appraisal of the problem, came and did the work quickly and efficiently and charged a reasonable fee. Good work!

The estimator, Dave Maple, listened to my description of the water seepage problem and proposed a two-step solution. Step 1 was implemented, and that was all that was needed. Another waterproofing company proposed a $2500 drainage system, requiring tearing up the floor, walls, and removing the toilet, that in the end was unnecessary and would not have fixed the problem. To be quite truthful, and buyer beware, I learned the lesson of being a proactive customer. I ended up simulating the water seepage issue by running a garden hose for 10 minutes above the affected area. Then, I removed the baseboard where the water came in as well as some of the drywall. That exposed an obvious hole through which the water was coming. That's all easy stuff, I'm not your handyman type. But it probably saved me a couple of thousand bucks, because an estimator is just relying on their experience and best guess to diagnose a problem. I exposed it and they fixed it. Of course not every waterproofing issue has similar causes. And water is unpredictable, takes all kinds of circuitous paths, and with Seattle being Seattle with lots of moisture, slopes, and high water tables, the issues are not always simple. But other companies want to sell you solutions that you may not need based on their working assumptions and their own specialties. Therefore, I give Wu Construction credit for not trying to rip me off and for not doing unnecessary work. They simply fixed the problem.

Dave was extremely professional and gave us very detailed quotes. The quotes clearly explained the work that needed to be done and were well-priced. Unfortunately, we were not able to close on the house. If we had, we would have asked Dave to do the work he quoted to us. It is clear that Dave is extremely hard-working and takes great pride in his work.

a sump pump was installed pre-carpet & pre-drywall. we still had flooding after drywall, but before carpet. Dave gave us another estimate and placed a drain in our garage to catch water before it got into the basement. at this point i have given him $3000. Then after I had my $7000 carpet installed, the basement flooded again. He wanted another $2400 the third time. I kicked him out of my house.

I live on the side of a hill, and have had an ongoing issue of water running across my neighbor's property (we have a lot of clay in the soil) and then across my driveway. It can be a stream during the winter months, and then it freezes and gives me a nice ice rink. Dave Maple came out on time to assess the situation and gave several options on how to fix the problem. He provided a low-cost solution that could be added on to at a later time, if necessary. Three workers arrived on time on the scheduled date and completed the work on time (one day). They were careful to lay down plastic where dirt was going to be moved, and they left the place neat. The real test will be next winter, but I can already tell that the water (and clay) that used to flow across my driveway now is diverted to the street drain (minus the clay). Excellent job!

Dave was very helpful and forthright; he offered loads of free advice and DIY tips to complete repairs needed outside of my budget. I feel like I not only gained a reliable contractor, but a friend as well. Wu Construction's quality of work is exceptional, their prices are reasonable, and their business ethics impeccable. I couldn't be more pleased with the results and highly recommend this company to anyone seeking a foundation expert.
