I buy a lot of vintage and antique jewerly and because I'm not buying top tier vintage, the pieces often need a bit of TLC.  I've had multiple vintage and antique rings resized (including cameos and garnet/pinchbeck). I've had multiple vintage clip earrings changed into posts, etc.  I've had broken prongs and claps repaired.  The pieces always look fabulous and you can never tell any work was done (other than they look better than when I brought them in).  The reason I can feel free to buy vintage is because I know Russell's will be able to handle any repairs I bring in.  They also altered my wedding set (not vintage) to change the diamond setting so that it fit with the rest of the ring better.  If I didn't know it was changed, you'd never be able to tell it didn't come like that from the original store.
