From the estimate to the actual service, my experience with Brennan was consistently professional. Knowing the furnace was for a rental, the salesman helped me weigh cost against efficiency and quality. (He actually promoted a less-expensive furnace than what I ultimately chose.)

The  installer was clearly experienced and conducted himself like a pro. There were no complications or surprises.

Our water heater started leaking Thursday.  On Friday morning I called Brennan and they were out Friday afternoon to replace it at what I think was a reasonable cost although I did not shop around.  I was happy with the speed and quality of the service.

I was very pleased with their work and professionalism.  The tech new what he was doing and was clean, friendly, and answered all of my questions.  I am also very appreciative of Angie's list offering this special as the company that installed my tankless didn't really talk about maintenance and it definitely needed it.  I will make sure to consider them for my future needs.

It was a lot more expensive than we thought it would be, although we have no comparison.  They were very professional.  They cleaned everything up and seemed to do a good job.

I used the Angie's List contact feature to send Brennan an email, just as I had done with a roofing company recently. The roofing company responded immediately using the same contact information I sent to Brennan. I sent the email on Monday. Today is Friday. I still have not received any response. I read, in some other reviews, similar issues with Brennan, but I decided I would give them the benefit of the doubt. In one of their replies to an Angie's List subscriber's report/complaint, they said they check emails every day. I gave up waiting today and we called another company. Our furnace was repaired ONE HOUR LATER!
Response from Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning
"I am sorry for not getting back to you. Once again this is not how we have built our business and how we have won so many customer service awards in the industry. We have 9 full time personnel in the office watching for emails and responding to emails. The majority of our first contact with homeowners is via emails and once again I apologize for the inconvenience. I am currently in discussions with my contact at Angie's List to make sure we are getting everything sent to us. We do watch info@brennanheating 7 days a week to respond immediately to requests. Please call us direct at 1-877-BRENNAN so we can handle this issue properly. Thank you for your initial attempt to contact us."

I contacted the company via email twice (12/5/11 & 12/7/11) for a bid on a gas water heater and they have yet to get back to me.  I have not yet chosen a company to do the job, but it would be nice if they would respond somewhat promptly.
Response from Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning
"We have called 3 times with no response. We are in business to sell jobs and would never ignore a bid request. We would like to bid the job but cannot get a hold of the member. We check our emails 7 days a week and respond to requests for bids 7 days a week. Please let us know when we can talk to discuss the job or come to the house and do a bid."

I did not enjoy getting yelled at.  I am building my own new home (not a contractor) and I got into a position where I needed a new HVAC company in a hurry. I called Brennan to have them send out an estimator. After waiting a week and a half, I got a call 20 minutes before the 9AM appointment saying there was an emergency and they were not going to make it. During rescheduling they said the earliest would be a week away. I said that wouldnt work to no avail. So I drove totheir office to explain I had plumbers that need to talk to HVAC to make sure they stubbed out water lines correctly. Once there I was told maybe thurs. At that point I said that if I had to wait another week I would not need the estimate. I cant have plumbers doing nothing. At this point the lady I was talking to shouted (yes shouted) "Really? Thats the way you want to be? I am sorry we have [other customers]." That was the first time I had been aplogized to that day. Dont expect their front office to help you if there is an issue.
Response from Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning
"We are very sorry for the inconvenience for cancelling last minute! We do not normally conduct our business that way. For your specific job requiring hydronic heating we needed our hydronic rep available to do the bid. We had just lost our hydronic sales rep and we were in the middle of hiring another qualified person, we are now up and running with our new rep. Again, we are very sorry and would hope to make it up to you."

We had an appt set today at 3pm today to discuss heating options and get an estimate. This appt was made about a week ago and my husband & I arranged our work schedules around it. Today at 2pm someone from Brennan Heating called and told me he did not need to come to my home to give me an estimate.  Based on our short phone conversation he told me the cost would be between 18,000 & 19,000.00. For this amount of money - I cannot imagine why a professional would think this kind of an "estimate" even comes close to being professional.  The person who we hire for this job won't be hired based on a phone call like that.  What a disappointment.
Response from Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning
"When we called before the bid to confirm the address, we were informed that you would be building next year but were getting ball park bids for now. After discussing the plans over the phone a ballpark price was giving. We never want to ball park instead of performing a bid on the job site. We apologize if there were any misunderstandings. We can set another appointment for any time when you are ready, including evenings and weekends. We could not stay in business by ball parking bids over the phone. We pride ourselves in our well trained and professional sales staff. We hope we hear from you again to show you how we really do business."

This is the 2nd time that we used Brennan (they installed our high efficiency gas furnace and AC) and we plan to continue to use them.  Given the high quality of their products and services, I expected their price to be higher but their price for the water heater and expansion tank was less than all of the other companies that I contacted and significantly less than some.  They were the only company that I contacted that uses Bradford White water heaters which are made in the USA, another significant plus for us.  Once again they were on-time, professional, courteous, and answered all of our questions.  As an added bonus, since our original furnace and AC purchase was through Costco, this latest purchase and all of our future services with Brennan are affiliated with Costco.

After asking a number of contractors to help us figure out how to vent an unheated room not connected to our heating system (and to get a new furnace estimate), Dan from Brennan figured out easily how to do this work and the bid came out to a similar price without the venting for the room; he also clearly explained our furnace options. The installers did excellent work and moved back all furniture and cleaned up everything. We were very pleased.

Our furnace stopped working so I checked Angie's List to find Brennan as a good recommendation based on customer feedback.  The technician showed up and diagnosed the problem right away.  I weighed the cost of paying $500 to repair a 36 year old electric furnace over installing a newer more efficient one and decided to go with a new install.  Since it would would be a week before they could schedule the install of a new one the technician went ahead and did a temporary fix on the old one so it would work in the interim which was much appreciated as the temps were frigid that week.  He didn't charge me anything for the temp repair, installed a new control pad and quoted us a fair price for the new furnace.  He also informed us we would receive a 10% discount for indicating we found them on Angies List!  The two installers showed up right on time and had the new unit up and running in no time!  They hauled away the old unit at no additional charge and cleaned up the work area very nicely after they were done.  We would highly recommend Brennan for great service as well as honest and fair pricing.  Thanks Brennan!!!

Said they would arrive at a specific time, failed to show until an hour later after I had left for work. And it was the first appointment of the day. When I called back they said they can never guarantee a time. Might be ok when it is the cable company and you have no other choices but not when there is plenty of competition. Called someone else and used them instead.
Response from Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning
"We totally understand all of our customers have many options available for their service provider and because of that we do everything possible to keep our customers as satisfied as possible and we try to keep our rates as competitive as possible as well. We always set our service appointments with a window not an exact time just like every other company in the industry. The window is always 2 hours except the first call of the day can be 1 hour. The reason is we don't know what kind of traffic we might hit or how long each job may take. We are sorry for any miscommunication regarding a scheduled appointment but we must schedule with a time window and have done so for over 20 years. Even though we do have a 2 hour window, we have no problem calling customers on the way with a 30 minute heads up in case they are at work and want to meet us at the house."

I had a leak inside my return air duct, so I called Brennan because they installed the system.  The serviceman came and opened it up and found a leak from a 104-year-old pipe that was running through the duct.  My problem was no longer heating, but actually plumbing.  The serviceman told me it was an easy fix and told me what to tell the plumber, and promptly charged me $100 for driving out.  I called my plumbing company who has done a lot of great work at my house and when they came the next day, they said it was not an easy fix due to the age of the pipes and that there was no way that they could get in there to repair the pipe without the heating company coming and taking down the duct first.  I called Brennan and relayed the information.  They spoke with the techician they had sent out and insisted that I and the plumber were wrong, it was a simple fix, and told me that if they came out and removed the duct it would cost another two-hundred-something dollars an hour.  I insisted that I should receive a credit for the $100 that I already spent, since the serviceman should have removed the duct in the first place, and they insisted that they were right, my plumber is wrong, and offered to schedule the appointment for me to spend more hundreds of dollars.  Needless to say, I still have a leak and I no longer have a heating and cooling technician, or $100.  And by the way, the plumber didn't charge me anything to tell me that he couldn't get in there and fix the leak until I or a heating company removed the duct.  A leak in my
Response from Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning
"Brennan did install a new furnace in 2007, but not the ductwork or the plumbing pipe that is leaking. Our technician for this job, did state that he thought the fix could possibly happen without removing the ductwork but he Is not a plumber and recommended a plumber come out and see the job. Like most companies in our industry, it is common to have a diagnostic fee. We do not do plumbing repairs, we are a HVAC company only. We gave a bid to come out and remove the duct work for the plumber, $165 for removal of the duct and $165 to come back later and reinstall the duct after the plumbing repair. We have at least 2 hours of labor in each phase of the job. We do not charge $200 an hour as you can see in our bid. We offered a very competitive price and offered to send a technician to the house on your schedule. We cannot fix problems not caused by us for free. We have a commitment to our customers and we always try to take care of them in the best way possible. We offer competitive pricing and we do our best to work around our customer’s schedule. We would appreciate an opportunity to do the work and will continue to honor the bid. I know our bid will be competitive with other bids if other bids are received. I’m sorry if there was a miscommunication on our end."

The crew arrived 10 minutes early the day of the installation to set things up. After intro, they politelly asked for a receptacle to plug in the shop truck. The install was orquestrated in steps so that everything went smooth. This was an all day job so they only stopped for a quick brake. First, removal of the old furnace then the mechanical equipment installation (inside and outside) followed by the refrigeration lines and electrical connections. Two guys did the mechanical part and a refrigeration tech did the other. Two electricians came to finish the job in the afternoon. Overall, everything went excellent beyond our expectations. You normally prepare for the unexpected when you deal with contractors but these guys were good. The estimator came by to see how things were going and do his paperwork. We got lucky the new unit piped right into the old ducting. The crew covered up the carpet and picked up after themselves. We must have had 4 vans or trucks in our drive way at one time because they brought everything out brand new and took all the old stuff - then made sure the system tested out before turning it over to the electricians. It was good teamwork. The job had to get inspected by L&I so they did all the paperwork with the County, we just had to schedule the inspections. The work was flawless and passed both mechanical and electrical. Brennan did all the rebate paperwork and submitted it, we just had to wait; got one from Costco and one from PSE and are hoping to get one from the Federal Government. Make sure to follow up and should only take a few weeks.

It took the technician, Shaun, ten minutes to identify the problem.  And then he suggested a more simple unit that he had brand new, on hand.  It took him less than ten minutes to install.  And then took the time to show us how it worked.    Service was performed in less than an hour.  Overall experience was exactly what we had in mind.  Great work!

They told me that I needed to get a brand new furnance.  I then inquired with two additional companies and they told me this was not necessary.  My furnance is still currently working fine.
Response from Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning
"The service was for general maintenance. Because of the specific existing conditions with the furnace; worn heat exchangers and leak, we like to let customers know the condition of their equipment and what expenses might be in the future so they are not blindsided with a large fix or unexpected replacement. When we left the house the furnace was running fine, and we never said anything needed to be done. It was a courtesy to the consumer to let them know our educated guess on the timeline of a future expense. I’m sorry if there was any misunderstanding with our motives. We would appreciate on opportunity to continue being your service company in the future."
