"Hi [member name removed] - We built the wall, did a tub to shower conversion, installed new shower walls and a shower door for your mother's bathroom but we don't install flooring. Thank you so very much for a wonderful review though! You were great to work with!"
I stopped by the Tub Cove office to mention that I wanted to go forward with the project since its close to my house. I was able to write a check for a deposit and pick out some colors for the new walls.
I was a little confused about the start day and time, but otherwise the work went as scheduled. Despite the walls having some really crazy plumbing and other random things in there once they opened it up, they were able to evaluate the new situation and get my input before proceeding.
The only problems I had were 1) they got confused on the colors I had chosen; this wasn't too big a deal to me since I kind of chose them at random since I don't have to live there. 2) they made a mistake ordering the new shower door and it took about a week and half after the initial installation to actually finish the last shower 3) a pipe came loose in the new shower and water got everywhere in my tenant's apartment. By random chance, it happened to be on the day where someone was there to finally install the new glass door, and we were able to cut the wall open and find the problem pretty quickly. If it had been when no one was home, it could have been a serious disaster. However, to Tub Cove's credit, when they found out what happened Dan offered to pay for any damages that may have been caused by their mistake. We thankfully did not need to take him up on this offer, but its nice to know that they didn't hesitate to make things better.
I won't need to remodel this apartment again for a while, but if I do, I would call this company again.
Tub Cove replaced our 65-year-old, crumbling galvanized plumbing with Pex. The experienced, capable plumber (thanks, Bob!) who did that part of the job didn't just replace one with the other, he made suggestions and improved our plumbing configuration.
The new tub surround is exactly what we want (simple, plain, easy to clean). The new tub is also plain but a nice, minor upgrade to the original tub, now stained and rusting.
The only B is because the office manager, Shelley, is great but she was on vacation the week our work took place and the office was clearly at a bit of a loss without her. No office should be dependent on one person to make things go. However any issues were minor and I'm very pleased with the end result.
Home visit by TubCove, work order signed, $1900 deposit made.
5/1 Received invoice via email showing work ordered, and deposit made. Total price on invoice before deposit $3547.80
5/9 Water to tub turned off. Walls torn out, wood rot damage discovered in interior wall opposite plumbing wall. New plumbing (valve, piping to showerhead area) installed. Shower pipe is not raised an additional 6 inches per work order. All other work put on hold due to wood rot damage. Wood is dry, but damage appears to be water damage ? possibly from before new roof was put on several years ago.
5/10 TubCove reschedules our bath work for 5/24 (per their email of 5/10 this the soonest they can get their "cultured marble people" to come back. This rescheduling is made before any communication about how long repair work may take.) Condo Association brought into project to repair wood rot in frame. Has to arrange for repairs, seeks bid from contractors. In meantime, Condo maintenance crews run a hose to the roof to test for present leaking. No water comes through roof.
5/15 Contractor hired by condo association to remove damaged wall and ceiling. Condo association contractor could work within the new date given by TubCove.
5/16 Test for asbestos in ceiling is positive, hazmat crew to be scheduled to tear down interior wall and bathroom ceiling.
5/20 Rebuild in process. Rain in the night demonstrates that this is still an active leak. Condo Association maintenance called back in to seal the now identified place leaking. Carpentry work put on hold for a day while leak is sealed, and anti-fungal treatment is performed.
5/22 Apparent that 5/24 reschedule date may not be possible. We call TubCove to let them know. TubCove to contact "cultured marble people" to see if week of 5/27 is possible.
5/22 TubCove tells us that the soonest their "cultured marble people" can put in the surround is 6/5 (14 more days out). Also, another of their crew needs to come back in and finish the plumbing and put in the Wonderboard first thing 5/29.
5/24 Carpentry and sheetrocking the bathroom by Condo contractor is done by end of day.
5/29 Tubcove employee shows up 10:45 (?horrendous traffic due to Fed Ex truck accident? was cited). Cannot complete all that is needed by 1:00PM. (Homeowner had to leave for a doctor appointment at 2:00) Shower height now raised the additional 6 inches per work order.
5/31 TubCove returns to finish wonderboarding tub area. (Beautiful, precision work in the board around plumbing controls and spigots, by the way)
6/5 TubCove's "cultured marble people" arrive to install walls. Shower, faucets, controls and tub surround walls finally finished by end of work day. Finish work and caulking is expertly done. Looks like a top notch professional job. Must wait 24 hours before using.
6/6 Water turned back on in the evening. Shower used.
Overall: While it is not TubCove?s fault there was an active leak in the roof that necessitated extensive carpentry and sheet rock work in the unit, we feel that we, as customers, were at a huge disadvantage for rescheduling due to what appeared to be a reliance on outsourcing to contractors or subcontractors, if that is what the "cultured marble people" were.
We appreciate that everyone was frustrated by the turn of events, but both times there was a need to reschedule, TubCove?s "cultured marble people" responded firmly with a two week window before being able to deliver services . As we were paying not insignificant dollars for a tub surround and new plumbing, we did not see evidence that TubCove advocated on our behalf with regard to scheduling or that the "cultured marble people" cared. We just had to accept it. It was disappointing to us that TubCove was at the mercy of the "cultured marble people" rather than able to work with them for something better than two weeks out each time. We were never informed exactly of the relationship between TubCove and the "cultured marble people".
If you do not live in a condo where the building is commonly owned, or if you absolutely know that what is inside the walls will be no problem at all, then relying on the schedule of what could possibly be outsourced contractors or subcontractors will not be of a concern to you.
After experiencing this, my unsolicited advice (and if we could do it all over) would be to choose a contractor who could be more nimble and flexible when /if what was inside the wall is revealed to be problematic.

The installer showed up on time, installed a new high quality pan in just a few hours. He cleaned up after himself and before leaving had me ensure all was to my satisfaction. He gave me tips and tricks for replacing the wallboard and tile that I had removed before I called TubCove and even suggested that I tape the packaging bubble wrap to the shower pan to protect it during reconstruction.
I was mailed an invoice that even had a credit card receipt inside! Truly professional.
All in all, this was the kind of experience I hoped for and TubCove delivered and excellent product and excellent service!I would definitely use them again.
