We took advantage of a special offer for "a new gas furnace fully installed" @ $1,799. This is not one of the highest efficiency units but one rated at 80% efficiency (still an improvement over our ancient behemoth). We were a little nervous because (a) we'd not used the List's special pay-up-front offers before, (b) we weren't sure if the unit that would be large enough for our house would be available at that price, and (c) there had been a recent change in ownership or management of the company. It worked out fine. The appropriately sized unit was available at the offer price. That basic $1,799 price included the new furnace, labor, permit, and hauling away the old. There was an additional charge for a new base can and a friend who knows the furnace business assured us this was a reasonable and necessary charge. In addition, we took the opportunity to upgrade our termostat and to replace a damaged grill on the air return duct. An appointment time convenient for us was made and kept. I was surprised to learn it was a one-person job. The young man who did the work was polite, efficient, and clean, taking time to describe operations and offer advice. We were completely satisfied with his work and with the operation of our new furnace and thermostat.
Description of Work: Installed a new medium-efficiency gas furnace and hauled away the old one; installed a new thermostat; replaced a damaged metal grill.

The technician was very punctual, and friendly, providing dog treats for the puppies. It's not possible for me to determine the quality of service provided...I don't know furnaces. He did, however check to make sure that the thermostat and the furnace were in communication/sync. I was pleased with the service.

Service was same day and technician was courteous. The repair was simple but I was charged over 200 dollars for the part when the retail price looks to be around 50.

The company failed to disclose that Tom didn't own the company anymore even though I mentioned that I knew him when I called. I was clear that I thought I was talking to his wife. I live near Tom so he must have been forbidden from disclosing the sale. As I suspected, the bearing in the induction motor is bad. $480 to replace it. I ordered a new one on ebay for $80 instead. They showed me a crack in the heat exchanger and recommended replacement, It is 18 years old so it is not surprising, but a quick google indicates no reason for alarm. I'll get a quote and see, but I'm in no hurry at this point. How can I trust a company that fails to disclose change in ownership when I specifically mention knowing the owner? Probably I can't.. Tom would not have charged me for this visit and this new company did not disclose any fee for the visit ahead of time. I think $92 plus tax is excessive for a visit where no fee was disclosed in advance and no work was actually done. Confirming that the part I said was probably bad was bad is not worth a fee in these circumstances. Normally Tom would have just driven his 4 wheeler over here and taken a quick peak for free - and he would have gotten the work,.

I was initially disappointed to learn that Tom Duff had sold his business, but decided to still go with Highlander because Steve the sales rep was very professional and thoroughly described the entire proposal, along with explaining the option of a heat pump vs. an A/C unit. The installation was scheduled for 27 calendar days later, and was completed in six hours. The installers, Jason and Bruno, were both professional and courteous, performed the installation efficiently and per the proposal, and cleaned up thoroughly. Jason provided additional information on the equipment, the installation, and the maintenance requirements, and programmed the new wireless thermostat. Highlander had scheduled the City of Bellevue mechanical and electrical inspections for the following day. Everything was approved at that ime. So far, it's running great.

Tom Duff has worked on our heating/cooling system for years. We have nothing but good things to say about him, however he recently retired and sold the company. We were in the process of moving our A/C unit from one part of the house to another (he said we needed to wait until the weather was warm before completing the job). When I called to schedule the final install, I did not get a clear answer. I was told that the earliest "he" could come out to do the work was 3 weeks from when I called. I was disapointed, but willing to wait. When the guy showed up, with no reminder or confirmation about time, I was surprised to see that it was not Tom. It was then that I learned that he had retired. Next, I was told that the service guy could not do the job, that he ws supposed to evaluate the job and then if it was more than he could do, he would call the install crew. We scheduled the work to be done just two days later (today) between noon and 2 pm. It is now 2:10 pm. No one is here. I did finally get a call from the office to tell me that they were still not sure when the crew would be out here today to do the work! I am really disappointed in the quality of communication from this company. When the tech was out on Monday, he told me I should talk with Ben about my issues (no reminder call, or any communication about when they would be at my house to do the work). I called them that day, and still have not talked with him about my concerns. I really wanted to let them know that these little things will cost the company customers like me. I am now in the process of searching the list for a new company to complete the work.

We used Angie's list to get bids from three well-rated companies, and while we liked them all, they proposed significantly different approaches at different costs. Tom Duff, owner of Highlander, was not only the low bidder, but he did the most on site in terms of asking questions and checking around at our specific installation details. We went into the whole process assuming that we would want a higher efficiency furnace than the one being replaced, but Tom helped us to understand all of the dynamics (to be fair, one of the others did a good job of this too), and we ultimately liked his logic and vision of things. Today he installed the furnace, and did so personally --- didn't subcontract this out or act as a representative to a company that uses other installers. He did everything right here --- things were put back nicely, he left the owners manual for the furnace and showed how to read diagnostic codes, talked to us about leaving registers open or closed. They even fill out the warranty information so that we didn't have to fill out and submit that. And he charged us exactly what his bid proposed, not a penny different, no surprises. He'll also do the first maintenance visit at no extra cost, a year from now. The trade-off in furnace choice isn't just about efficiency --- to include putting that in the context of how much natural gas and related cost for us annually --- but also about how reliable the overall system is. I felt that all of the three companies bidding on the job understood that, but that Tom's equipment selection was best suited for us, and again --- at IMO a great price.
Description of Work: Installed a new furnace, an 80% efficient Bryant model, very much a direct replacement for the 25-year-old furnace it replaced.

I really enjoyed having Tom Duff install our new furnace and air conditioner. After he surveyed our house, he made some recommendations, and delivered the quote in person the very next day. He performs a lot of work in our neighborhood, so it was probably convenient for him, but I was still impressed that he would make that kind of effort. Tom was on time both days of the installation and finished the job when he said he would. He works very fast and efficiently. The furnace and air conditioner were neatly installed without any problems and the work area was left as clean as when he started. His knowledge of the equipment and the installation gave me a great deal of confidence that I was getting a quality product and installation. I would highly recommend him for any type of installation or repair. He really knows his stuff and is pleasant to work with.

Outstanding. I did a ton of research on furnaces, read reviews of service providers and had conversations with several. Tom at Highlander stood out to me as a man of integrity and honesty. Tom Duff is trustworthy, reliable, and fair in pricing. His warranty is excellent and he uses only the best furnaces. So the furnace was installed in 2010. Love it! Our new furnace is far quieter, partly because he fixed the placement so it wouldn't rattle against the wall. He also found that the original furnace ductwork had a big gap against the wall so that we were actually losing heat into the garage - for 20 years! So our heating bills went down considerably. I've had no problems and have had him out for yearly inspection and servicing. This review is long overdue - I just thought of doing it because my Outlook reminder popped up that it was time to check the filter. I would definitely recommend him.

We decided to have a non-emergency replacement of our existing gas furnace, which was well beyond its normal life span. Tom Duff of Highlander recommended a Bryant 95% efficiency furnace and installed it within two weeks of my initial call. Tom is highly professional, personable, and always punctual. The new furnace is functioning great, and seems to heat better than the old one, with a strong but quiet blower.

Great. I have never had a problem with this company. WHen my heater broke during the cold weather a few years back they showed up within hours to make sure we had heat again.
Description of Work: I have used this company for over ten years. THey are always on time, give me an estimate, do the work well, and provide warranty. The last time was actually a warranty work. THe exhaust motor had to be replaced. Then about a week or so later it started making a strange sound again so I called them. Tom came out during the time I had asked, replaced the part with a new one and this solved the issue. Nothing charged for this visit as he said it was under warranty.

I called Highland for a second opinion after my first vendor recommended that I replace my furnace since the part he believed was broken would run $1700. Tom with Highland agreed that the same part was at fault - but instead recommended a $900 repair. When it came time to do the repair, he found it was much easier and did the honest thing and charged me $250!! He took very good care of me and did not try to inflate the prices or the project like the other company did. I will gladly have him do annual service on my HVAC.

I am very unhappy with the service from this company. When I called, the woman on phone answered and quot;helloand quot; and I had to say and quot;Is this Highlanderand quot; and she replied and quot;yeahand quot; and was silent. I asked her if they could service our furnace and heat pump and she said they can't service a heat pump this time of year. When the service professional came he said he could service the heat pump! This was confusing. After the furnace was cleaned he said that the furnace failed some kind of emergency test but since the furnace is a Trane and under warranty he and quot;wouldn't touch itand quot; . He said he left the dirty filter in and that I needed to find someone else because he was retiring in a couple of weeks. Clearly this individual doesn't care how customers are treated and has no interest in helping. I feel mistreated by this company and frustrated I wasted my money and time! I would be surprised this company is still in business by the time this review is posted but if it is, donand quot;t use them they have checked out and only willing to take your money.

As usual, Tom arrived promptly and went right to work taking out the old furnace. Getting the new furnace down to my standing crawl space was no easy task, but he made it seem so. He is so proficient that he had just finished installation at the time he had scheduled Debi to come to perform the new state-mandated duct leakage test. She is a whiz at her job too, covering all the intake and outflow vents in the whole house, hooking up the measuring equipment, and seeing what leakage my ducts have. Meticulous as Tom, she repeated the test to be sure it was accurate. Then, she uncovered all the vents, Tom tidied up completely, and the whole thing took only four hours! If you need or want a new furnace, use them!

My furnace is 19 years old and showing signs of wear, as Tom had pointed out last year. I needed the annual maintenance done, asked for his opinion of its status, and asked for a bid in case I wanted to replace it. Tom being scupulously honest, didn't push a new fiurnace on me, saying I could probably get another year or two with minors repairs, gave me the pros and cons of new furnace options, and said he would send me an estimate. The next morning, when I went out to get my newspaper, the bid was there, under my paper! That is going above and beyond! I haven't yet decided whether to get a new furnace now, but whenever I do, no one else but Highlander will install it.!

Tom came highly recommended by family members, and we were pleased to see that he had good reviews here as well. We waited through the weekend with no heat to see the gas company representative first, and then called Tom when they discovered a problem outside of their scope. Tom was able to come within 30 minutes of my call, and completed the work quickly. He offered good explanations of the problem he found, as well as a solution that we could pursue if it recurs (replacing the control board). He also checked out the details of our parts warranty to ensure that, if we did need to replace the part, it would be covered with only labor charges for the time to pick up and install the part. The house is warm, and I know what to expect if we encounter the problem again!
Description of Work: Our furnace had been blowing cold air only, so we called the gas company first. The control board showed a diagnostic code indicating the high limit switch, so we had Tom come and inspect the furnace. He found no voltage to the switch, and was able to restore function by reconnecting a molex connector that had come loose. He also checked with the furnace manufacturer to ensure that, if it went out again, we could get a new board covered under the parts warranty.

Highlander had come HIGHLY recommended by quite a few people in my office, so I tried them, instead of the installer of the furnace, to see how they performed. It took 6 weeks to get an appt. as he said he does all business thru you and thru Checkbook. It was worth waiting, as he was patient in teaching me how to clean the filters.

Fabulously. Tom (the company owner and technician) showed up on time, finished early, and left a clean work site. He even moved some boxes of Christmas decorations out of the way and then put them back. I mean, we OFFERED to move the boxes but Tom said it was no problem. I would like to find something more specific to say, but that's about all there was -- in six hours the old furnace disappeared and a shiny new one appeared in its place. By the way, we just received our first energy bill after getting the new furnace. Even though it wasn't in place for the whole billing cycle, our natural gas use has fallen by 20% compared to last year. Get your new furnace now and let the feds subsidize it. Tom has been servicing our family's furnaces for years, and we have always been happy with his prices and his service.
Description of Work: Highlander replaced our antique (vintage 1978) natural gas furnace and replaced it with a new 95% efficiency unit. This included installing new exhaust, combustion air intake, and moisture drain pipes. He also replaced our old mercury-switch thermostat with a cool new programmable Honeywell box.
