Internet Service
Here's a letter I sent via email to ehow.com on Nov. 27 after calling them twice on 11/25/13 to cancel my subscription.
"I have been trying to cancel my ehow.com subscription for
financial reasons. I called the number
associated with the billing for your site 2 days ago twice including leaving my
phone no. but I did not receive a return call.
Today when I tried to login to your website to contact you to cancel my
subscription as I have to do and attempted two days ago (11/25/2013), the
website was not working properly and said I had an incorrect password, although
the password I used was correct (tried 2 times!). I regard this as lack of service for
transacting a legitimate cancellation.
I have tried 2 ways to contact you including calling your
billing department (at 310-319-6865) and use your website which does not
function right in order for someone to use it as it should be. This inability for a customer to transact
legitimate business is unprofessional at best, or intentional at worst. When attempts to contact you are not answered
and your website does not function correctly, that should be your
responsibility. I will make it known
otherwise.
If you make it hard to impossible for people who want to
contact you with legitimate business such as cancelling a subscription (or
adjusting it, or whatever), then that is not proper or legal, as far as I
know. I hope you will recognize this
problem, take care of it, and cancel the billing you are trying to make on my
account now. That would be the right
thing. If a person cannot physically or
electronically or otherwise contact you, do you keep billing forever? That would be a scam in anybody's book, which
is confusing since I did get help from ehow veterinarians twice, so the service
offered did work, but now I am unable to pay for or use this service.
Thanks for the past service but I need to have the current
charge rescinded. HOW the heck is
someone supposed to cancel from you when they can't contact you? This has to be a scam going on with your
billing, or something else? I liked your
service when I used it, but cannot afford it any more. Please cancel or refund this current attempt
to bill my account at (name of bank) # ****** (on
11/27/2013). Also cancel my
subscription. Thank you very much! Chris **** "
To date (12/18/13) I have received no communication from the company Demand Media that runs ehow.com or ehow.com. It appears to be playing dead or non-responsive. I have gone to my bank to ask about contesting charges made by ehow.com but was informally told it may not be possible but charges by scam operators have been able to be reversed in the past.
When I go to the ehow.com website, the correct information does not work to login. When I click on the button regarding a forgotten password, it does not send my email address a password change message. So I am forced to conclude that this is a scam company and that maybe needs to be dealt with legally and avoided by people not wanting to go through this rigmarole that I have. Why doesn't this company follow through on its good services with a responsive and professional billing office, instead of playing non-functional (dead) when it comes to cancelling a recurring subscription membership?
I am trying to get a refund of $19.99 for the last payment that I requested to cancel by calling the ehow.com telephone listed after the charge on my bank statement--and to cancel this subscription from this scammy company that won't respond to email or telephone inquiries with an email address and telephone number they have provided. this is a predatory company that is not normal in its methods and everything about is is designed to make the experience difficult for people who don't want to get technical, legal, and go through a lot of rigmarole. I definitely would avoid it in the future at all costs.
After using this company's online 'services' I do not think i will be using any more online services again. This leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
