First of all on the initial visit an estimate was worked up. Estimate was very fair and final cost was reasonable.Overall the job was handled with professionalism and concern for the surrounding areas. Everything was cleaned as expected and this portion of the job was completed, with more work scheduled form the end of the growing season for a group of Lilac trees that are in desperate need of care.
Description of Work: On old dying Cherry tree a main branch that had died was removed with attention being payed to the still viable portion of the tree. The person that did the job displayed extreme care and completed the job in a very reasonable time.

They did a great job on both counts. I was surprised at how well they cleaned up when finished. Thankful for the Angie's List great deal as otherwise I probably would have look elsewhere. I may be out of touch with the cost of some services as I've never hired this type of work before. I purchased two $99.00 coupons for $400 worth of work and I paid an additional $200.00 ($50+ was tax).

I made the appt. for them to come and give me an estimate for the 4 trees. Katy was on time and quickly got the job done. She said that they had a crew in the area that day and, if they finished the early job soon enough, they could do the job that afternoon. We agreed on a price and she said that it would be done that afternoon. The guys showed up a little after lunch and quickly cut down and chipped my ugly trees! Yeah! They raked up and swept up after themselves and were very friendly through the whole job. Thanks!

I checked Angies list first for a company to contact when I realized that the tree was getting worse after the leafing out on the branches. The weight was just pulling the branches down more. Katy, an arborist for Tree Resource, came right away to evaluate the condition. Luckily there was also an Angies List coupon that I purchased making the deal a bit better. A week later Alex showed up and did a great job balancing the trees branches and eliminating the weight. The branches immediately started lifting and hopefully next year will look great too. All my emails addressed to Zeb were responded to whereas most phone calls were not.
Description of Work: Trimmed and balanced a damaged birch tree from the winter's ice storm. There was structural pruning to reduce the weight on the branches that were bending down.

After we bought the "big deal" from Angie's List, my husband contacted Tree Resource to set up an appointment. He talked to Zeb and a date was agreed upon. Zeb said the latest appointment they do is 3:00p.m. because of traffic. Weird. On the date scheduled my husband took off work from a very busy schedule, and was here at out home at 2:55 p.m. I was already home. We waited and after 20 to 35 minutes called and left a message wondering where they were. No response. I called again around 4:15 p.m. and after calling 3 numbers got an actual person on the phone. She said she would try and call "Alex" who was supposed to come to our house and see what was happening. She said maybe he was up in a tree and couldn't call. Really, up in a tree!!!! I waited another 40 to 45 minutes and never heard from her so I called again around 5:00 p.m. She said they never called her back. By then we were pretty much done with this company. What a pathetic way to run a business! Don't advertise on Angie's List if you can't do the work. She is supposed to call me back today, the next day, and ask if I want to reschedule or get a refund. I have already contacted Angie's List and they have given me a refund. They were very easy to deal with unlike Tree Resource. I would never do business with them.

Response from Tree Resource
The member is correct; we missed our appointment due to unforeseen occurrences. It does happen from time to time with multiple appointments in a day and when dealing with trees. In fact, our arborists were up in a tree and running loud equipment during the time we were unable to reach them. We should have called directly when we realized that we would be running behind schedule. The members have our apologies for this. Before we could call back the following day to reschedule, we noticed that they had already refunded the Big Deal coupon, so we did not try to schedule another appointment. Our initial appointment was for us to look at two trees, identify the species on the one that was unknown to the Bowes, determine a best course of treatment for their storm damaged trees, and if appropriate carry out the work. The member desired to be present during the initial consultation, so we scheduled the appointment as late as possible in our normal working day. If they wish, we can try again; we are very good arborists who were simply having a manic Monday. (There is a very interesting story involving honey bees, an elm tree, and a kind elderly woman.)

This company was very professional and very service oriented. I called to schedule the appointment for the estimate because it was free with the Angies list big deal. But, the problem was that if I choose to go with another tree service and didn't want to buy the angies list coupon, then I would have to pay $125. I didn't like that and didn't feel like it made me free to choose the best price for my project. They explained that the $125 was for their travel costs and they also give a detailed written report explaining what they will do and how high they will prune on the trees, etc, and other companies don't do that. They are correct that other companies don't do that and write a contract ahead of time for the service. But, my job was fairly simple (cutting down a few fruit trees and pruning some big evergreen trees). I didn't need a written report. Then they were very nice and actually sent out one of their estimators to my house when they were in my neighborhood for another project. He gave me a free estimate and idea of what the price would be to do my project. It was very nice of them. Their price was higher than the other company that I went with and the other company (turning leaf) was able to fit me in sooner. I think tree resource was very busy with their angies list big deals. I was happy with tree resource, it's just that their price was a little higher than their competitors for the same project. I also hope they consider giving the option of free estimates in the future for people like me who don't need a full written report. I think they would get more customers that way. It was very nice of them that they gave me a free estimate when they were in the neighborhood.
Description of Work: I called to schedule an estimate using the angies list big deal of $200 for $400 of service and this included their $125 consultation cost.

Thank you for the kind review! Just a quick note of clarification. Our consulting arborist that stopped by did not actually give the member an estimate. What we provide with our initial consultation is an examination of our client’s trees and our client’s needs. If appropriate, we create a set of job specifications that are specific to our industry. Our clients can then accurately compare estimates from one company to the next. A job specification should include the species of the tree, it’s location on the property, and a quantifiable description of any project. For example, “Crown raising of a deodar cedar, (Cedrus deodara) located at the SW corner of the house. GOAL is to prune or remove branches so that the lowest remaining branch is no more than 15 feet from the ground. Pruning will be performed by ISA Certified Arborists and according to ANSI A300 best practices for tree pruning.”

We are not a bait-and-switch operation. Members that purchase the Big Deal are purchasing a value discount from us. We have no control over the prices quoted from other companies. Our rates are determined by the actual costs of doing business, as opposed to matching low bid competitors. We are determined to offer arboricultural services that meet or exceed the industry standard.

I am very particular that the way the trees are pruned and that the trees are done like an arborist wound do it to preserve their health. They were really really good and I have used them several times. I have been very impressed with the work on the tree but also their timeliness and profession and how they keep their schedule.

The large maple tree that is the centerpiece of our backyard needed to have some dead or low-hanging branches removed and we wanted to remove a couple of low branches from a Douglas Fir that overhangs our roof. I had spoken to another tree service and had been put off by their suggestion to install bolts and cables in the maple. It seemed a complete overreaction to what I'd requested and was very expensive. Then Angie's List offered a Big Deal for services from "Tree Resource". Before buying the Big Deal, I checked the company's website and liked what I saw -- it's full of good information for homeowners and there's nary a cable or a bolt in sight - so we bought the big deal. Scheduling was very easy. Katy BIgelow came out and looked over the projects, a process that only took 15-20 minutes. (I liked it that her company car is a Prius.) She e-mailed me the full bid a day or two later and I then called the office to set a date for the work. Again, scheduling was pretty easy. Zeb outlined our options - to be there when the work was done and pay upon completion or could pay by credit card over the phone. On tree pruning day, the crew - Katy, Nick & Dennis - arrived right on time. They used ropes & harnesses to scale the trees and used handheld saws to do the actual trimming. Nice not to have people juggling chainsaws above our heads and really interesting to watch. Katy worked on the fir while Nick worked on the maple and Dennis helped from the ground for both. The work took 1.5-2 hours at most and when it was done, our trees looked like lighter, brighter versions of themselves. Good tree services are worth the price because the final result should be subtle, not obvious like a bad haircut. When Katy & Nick were done, our trees were still symetrical and balanced and did not look like they'd been shorn or chopped. They looked like themselves, only better. All three workers were friendly and professional. They use solid safety practices, they answered all our questions and they indulged us as onlookers to their work. (It was kind of like having a trapeze act in the back yard.) They clearly enjoy their work and they worked well together. Clean-up of the cut or dead branches was quick and efficient. It was a very satisfactory experience. Good work done well by highly qualified people. If we need tree service again, they'll be our first call.

We had coupon and it worked out well. They gave us an estimate and they kept to that. They did the work well and were on time. It took more time than they had anticipated. They were happy with it. I wasn’t onsite, but I was there for the estimate. They were careful. They didn’t do harm to shrubs and things beneath on the area they cleaned up. I think the price was fair.

Only company of the 6 I contacted on Angie's List that required a consultation fee. Two rates, $45 and $125 - not sure what the difference is between the two consultations. I wanted an estimate for s simple tree pruning of a Western Red Cedar to raise the skirt from roof lines. If everyone charged a consultation fee for this service you could be out of pocket more than the actual work needed. Find this an odd approach to and established, competitive service. Too many options in Seattle for tree services to have to pay a consultation fee. I did not request a bid or work based on this alone and moved on. Female on phone was not engaging.

Yes, we charge a consulting fee to assess trees, even if the request is simply for pruning. Many factors are considered by the consultant, including current tree health, scope of requested services, and alternative approaches that can best meet our client’s goals for managing their trees. The credentialed arborist will make an unbiased recommendation for the best approach to your tree care needs, even if the best recommendation is for little or no work for the tree.

They showed up on time. The first one to arrive did most of the rigging. The neighbors were fascinated to watch the process. They climbed up into the trees, with lots of ropes, checked each branch, hand cut most branches that needed to go. They were very quiet for most of thee day. With one guy in each tree, and one on the ground, they tied ropes to the branch to be cut, cut the branch, controlled the swinging branch, & lowered it to the ground, where it was removed to the chipper. These are both 50 year old trees, and very tall. Every one seemed very concerned with safety, each branch was evaluated, and only cut if necessary for the health of the tree; and they were very careful when cutting over the house. They cleaned up every thing, even raked the yard & driveway to get all the branches. I asked about getting some of the chips, and they gave me as much as I wanted. I was told after sitting for a couple of weeks, it would make good mulch for my roses. I am very impressed with the knowledge of all the guys, and their concern for safety. They were professional, polite, & neat. We were encouraged to ask questions, and they answered all of our questions, including a couple of "what is this plant" questions not related to this job. As certified arborists, I feel confident that they have the health of my trees as a top priority. I believe my trees are now safe and healthy. The price seemed a little high, but it seems fair for all we got.

There was a special deal on it. The trimming was good because we had a storm the next month and the tree was fine. I asked them about a limb that had been damaged; they said it had been damaged so far in the past that it posed no problem. They were very knowledgeable and were able to answer all questions that I had about the tree. I would definitely recommend them.

The winter snow storm broke our large pine trees major branch source on one side. The tree had double trunk issues. The tree was unsafe. I found Tree Source on Angies list. They had a big deal savings going on. Zeb answered the phone the first time I called. I know he was very busy but he took time to talk to me. He did not rush me either which was nice. He came out and looked at my tree and agreed it needed to come down. He wanted to save it but couldn't. They were out a few days later and took the tree down. They did a great job. They cleaned up the mess and were gone in a few hours. He suggested other trees that could replace the pine as well. He and his crew are very nice and good at what they do.

I received a call from Tree Resource, after they read this review. I was asked to reconsider the rating, and I have modified it. The price is N/A, as I was not given a quote. The quality is also N/A, as the work was not performed. Punctuality is fair. I did hear from them initially, then nothing. The company claims it was because they had to evaluate another site, which is true, but failure to communicate that fact when they have both email and a cell # is "bad" in my book. No communication is no communication, regardless of the excuse, which is why I assign a "D" to responsiveness. Punctuality and professionalism also tie in with responsiveness, which is fair. In closing, I believe you shoud be exemplary to get featured in a "Big Deal". I was surprised by the right off the bat refusal just based on my phone call request, and then this return phone call that was defensive and argumentive, which was stressful, and I hope the last time this company calls me. I think someone else should man the phones, because the guys who were sent to my home were very nice. I work with people, and if I get complaints, the first thing I ask is,"how can I make this better / what can I do to make this right?"
Description of Work: I bought a "big deal" for pruning services from this company. The guy who responded interrupted me when I was halfway explaining what needed to be done - a simple pruning that I have done for years - and told me his company could not do that because it sounded like "tree topping". I told him that I had bought this "Angie's list deal", and that it was not tree topping, and he said, well, I have a crew that can look at it today. The crew came, two nice guys, took pictures, and told me they would get back to me. That was 3 days ago. In the meantime, I had this done by Tree Preservation NW, and they were prompt, careful, honest and professional. I want a refund on this "deal", and I will not use this company, ever.

We did not do any work for this member. Our reputation is built on quality work that complies with national standards for tree care known as the ANSI A300. We endeavor to educate our potential clients about proper trees care but sometimes we have to turn down work that may harm our reputation. We may have been able to find a compromise that would be appropriate to tree care industry standards and may have even saved the member future maintenance costs of both time and money that arise from bad tree work. I am sorry we weren’t able to help in this case. If you are a discerning customer, looking for the best possible work give us a call. If you are determined to “top” your trees please find one of our competitors as this member has done.

We use Tree Resource every year to trim and maintain all of our trees. We have probably 10 trees on our property as well as 3 fruit trees that they prune and maintain to make sure each are healthy, look their best, and do not get too close to the house itself. Zeb is extremely knowledgeable as well as his crew. They are very professional and take their time to make sure all of your questions are answered before and after the job is complete. They also make sure to clean up thoroughly. Also, they can help you out if you are in search of a new tree in terms of what would be best for the specific area of your yard. DO - Contact Zeb if you think there is some difficulty or confusion. Also be sure to read the fine print on all coupons. Zeb came out, took the time to talk with me about what was appropriate pruning for each of the trees and credited me with all coupons I had purchased. The estimate was reasonable, the work was done when scheduled, the arborists came on time, worked well, reviewed again what we had agreed upon, cleaned up completely and even shredded the cuttings into bins for mulch. Excellent job. DON'T - Assume the business is poor if there may have been a misunderstanding with someone you were dealing with. Go to the boss. I will purchase another big deal from Tree Resource next year for pruning again.
Description of Work: The difficulty I had with Tree Resource has been resolved in a VERY satisfactory. In case of any delay, I would suggest contacting Zeb as he came as soon as he learned of my complaint and reviewed the yard, set a reasonable date and time, and had a terrific pair of arborists do a wonderful pruning my trees.

We needed to find a good arborist fast to prune a large hawthorn tree that was seriously impinging on the neighbor's yard and house. An Angie's Big Deal led us to Tree Resource at an opportune time. We used part of the Big Deal to engage the company to come out for a site consultation. The owner, Zeb, came out and spent the rest of the afternoon walking the property with me, identifying plants for me and assessing the condition of many Dougs, WRCs and maples. He listened carefully to my concerns about these large trees in windstorms, analyzed the situation, and made a few recommendations for things we might do to mitigate some issues farther down the line. He really understood my desire to make the property more wildlife-friendly and offered ideas and advice to make that happen. The follow-up report provided clear explanations of everything we had discussed and estimates for future optional services. I scheduled the second service, the tree pruning, for a few weeks later. Arborist Alec and his colleague arrived well on schedule and got right to work. A hawthorn is a miserable, thorny mess of a tree, but Alec remained cheerful throughout and did everything possible to minimize disruption to obvious nesting sites. All debris was cleaned up and removed. I look forward to working with the Tree Resource arborists on future projects.

Last winters storms with the high winds had a lot of the fir trees looking like some of them were going to come down. It was time to have someone check them. The assesment went well and any questions I had were answered to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: One of the arborist arrived at our home on time on 20 Sept. to make an assesment of the fir trees surrounding our home. We wanted to find out if any of them looked like they may come down in a bad wind storm. Katy spent an hour checking the whole area and found one tree which looked like it may need to be taken down in the future, and it was not a danger to our home. We received a written report of the assesment a week later which gave an in-depth report of the findings.

I received via Angie's List a special deal... $99 for $200 worth of Tree Resource Credit. I called and informed the company of the special offered. I was told their minimal cost for coming and doing tree service, including tree trimming, was $500. I believed this to be reasonable. They arrived on the appointed day and time. There were two arborists who completed all of the yard and tree work as requested. All cut materials were removed neatly from our yard. The trees were beautifully trimmed. I was given excellent advice. They did not put pressure on me to do more work than I wanted. And my trees did not look like they had been overly trimmed back. All the trees looked natural upon completion. I had some trees that had become overgrown as well as a couple of rhododendron bushes. I was very pleased with the final result and would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Trimming of trees and rhododendron bushes that had become overgrown. Removal of all cut and trimmed material.

He came out very promptly. He looked at the heigths of the trees that needed to be trimmed. He told me he could do the job very easily but there’s a lot of people that could do the job cheaper. I commend him for looking at the customers interest first. He is a very honest individual and would do a great job for you if you need to cut tall trees down.
Description of Work: I have a 14 foot high hedge that I wanted cut to about 8 feet high.

Zeb visited our house quite some time ago in order to complete an inspection of our property. We were unhappy that his charges did not include a written report. Our original consult was around $300. Zeb offered to come out again at no charge in order to re-assess our trees and provide a written report since we were not happy. We were completely impressed with his services this time around.
Description of Work: Zeb Haney visited our home for a second time in order to assess our trees and provide a written report. He spent over 2.5 hours inspecting and measuring trees on our property. He was great about answering our questions on the spot and demonstrated a deep knowlege of trees. He submitted a written report several weeks later which was in-depth and contained a prioritized list of actions he recommended we take in respect to our trees. The report included a description and analysis or our trees, recommendations, a diagram and several pictures. Very informative!
